I'm curious if anyone has a nice condition Mave they are willing to part with for a fair price. I realize it's not Macross...but I don't think there's any other community online that has as much overlap with a small group of Yukikaze / plane fans.

apparently, there is another Blu-ray (region-A) release of Armored Trooper VOTOMS from Section-23 scheduled for release today 8/11/2020:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089TXGNL2/
with the BrutishDog as the new cover:
9 discs "complete" collection.
Get this version if you missed out on the previous US bd-releases...
I had bought the other bluray releases that were plagued with a horrible video problem so I sold those and nabbed this new set and whew! The tv series is damn near close to bluray quality best I can tell. It was previously a standard def on blu release, but I swear I can clearly see film grain now. It's quite beautiful. Maiden Japan should have allowed people to swap their old discs, but this is definitely worth picking up even if you were burned by the previous release.

Thanks for everyone that gave the feedback on the bluray of this. I finally pulled the trigger on it and I'm actually pretty happy with it. All the the CG scenes stand out in clarity on the bluray in a good way. It's just too bad some of the extras from the DVD version weren't included so I'll still have to hang on to those.

I think I asked this once before, but now that there are more eyes on this thread, has anyone picked up the Yukikaze bluray set? I have the DVDs and I've read a bit about how the bluray doesn't really look much better at all. Can anyone speak to this? I downloaded what I assume to be a bluray rip and it looks almost identical to the DVD I own and I'm a pretty big nitpicker when it comes to video quality.

I'd be down for that. I'm still missing the Flip Knight, although that's probably the one least likely to get reissued. While I'm dreaming though, what I'd really like is some of the other planes from the series. I super love the Fand I and II.
I wasn't familiar with the Fand I and II, but now I'm right with you. While we're dreaming here I'll take a translation of the final novel as well. Sucks to be a late comer fan of the series have it be near impossible to get anything.

I wonder if we'll ever see another release of the Alter 1/100 figures. The Mave is too much money these days.

What the hell...? Who approved that fat-ass EVA?
It looks like a fanboy wearing a costume!
Setting impossible Eva beauty standards!! LOL
I miss the more "T" shaped Evas of the original TV series with the broad shoulders.

Thanks @glane21 for quickly shipping me a cool Isamu figure!

Ah, thank you. I bought the one seen above from glane21.

BEAUTY OF COMPLETION!
I've got a lot of thoughts about 7 bouncing around in my head, but I'm having a hard time sorting them out over "WHOA WHOA WHOAAAA~~" D7 was great aside from whatever the frakk they did with Meylene. Worst, most cruel thing to leave a cliffhanger on ever. Where you supposed to imagine the things that happened to this underage character between the release of OVA 2 and 3? Jesus...
Anyway, I think I just want to point out two things about M7 as a whole. I adore the character designs throughout and the show does an excellent job of keeping everyone on-model for the most part. It's a shame about the reused animation so frequently because it's obvious the staff was talented. One can't help but wonder if this would have been if the skills and budget were compressed to a 26 episode series not to mention how it could have benefited the story pacing. The backgrounds are fabulously detailed especially for the exterior shots of City 7 which didn't seem to be reused too much. In addition I also have to say I love the hyper neon color palette used though the show. It still pops even now. If I could make my own anime I'd want it to look at colorful as Macross 7.

Anyone have one of the Isamu Dyson CM's figures that they would be willing to let go of for a decent price? I'm having trouble finding one on it's own. Thank you!

Happy to report that some (frightening) sanding of the ball joint of my $300 toy fixed this issue. Now we're back in fighter form and it's time to rest...
-
I don't get why my left leg is so tight. I've completely disassembled the joint and just holding the two metal pieces on the ball joint and moving it around seems to make WAY too much friction. If I reassemble it the problem is just as bad as before. I feel like the ball is too big for the two metal pieces to close cleanly over it. This has to be a defect. Now that I think about it, before I ever transformed it, there was a gap in plastic above the intake on this same side proving that the two plastic pieces that screw together over this joint where never able to get close enough.
I tried assembling the leg off of the ball and it went together perfectly. So either the ball is too large or the die-cast metal pieces aren't hollowed out enough for the ball joint to fit in properly. Way to go, Bandai.

I received a head laser replacement from @kkx and was finally able to attach it recently. Now my YF-19 looks perfect! The plastic is well matched and the decal makes it look just like the original. I would recommend getting it into battleroid mode before attempting to swap it so you can hold the head steady while you insert the new piece. It doesn't take a lot of force to remove or to put in the new piece. I'm so pleased! Here are some pics:

I just put in an order for one of these full set bad boys on Mandarake. I’m looking forward to getting it.
Prepare to fall in love! I've been staring at mine in fighter form all day long...

Watching this for the first time and while I know I technically can't complain about fansubs.... but for whatever reason the version I got ahold of had episode 44, the episode with the Stargazer mission, in DVD quality. What a bummer seeing it that way for the first time. I’ve tracked down another version for a rewatch, but that sure put a bit of a damper on the experience. Anyway, M7 looks so amazing on the HD remaster and I’m really enjoying it so far.

Figures that my lease is up this very same weekend as the con and I’ll be having to move. I’m just sort of realizing that Macross is my fandom home and I’d love to go and make some friends. See y’all in 2021!

Just getting caught up on this thread and I've gotta say, I utterly hate the redesigns for the movies. The Evas are too lanky with stretched torsos, the plugsuits are unnecessarily sexualized, the new characters and Evas are crap. If not for the redone Rameil fight, I'd call the movies complete garbage from start to finish.
You know, I was all aboard the hype train a few times especially with the second film, but I also pretty tired of the new designs. Anytime I see an Eva-01 without the green waistband I'm so pleased. To me the original Evas are just way more iconic than the new stuff. I'm still chomping at the bit to see the final movie, but I don't have super high expectations.

Kaiyodo still does the best overall sculpts of the franchise IMHO, for both pilots and Evas.
Yeah, the hip joints look a little too obvious. I'm sure someone will snap a bunch of pics of the completed thing in various poses that will make me want it though.

I've always kind of wavered between the two. Both evoke different emotions and are technically impressive in their own ways. EoE is just such a spectacle. I'm a sucker for the (visible) scale of events in that movie.

What is up with the weird arms on the RG Evas? I'm not sure I'm digging that look at all. I get that they're a little more stylized, but that's too off-putting.

That's how you know you have a problem, but even if there was a 12-step program for Macross collecting, I doubt any of would ever submit to it.

Valk surfing!
So, funny story. I've been stashing a few new toys at work that I'm not quite ready to reveal to my better half. This idea came to me during some downtime earlier today when I was thinking about these two having similar color schemes. Don't mind my replacement antenna just sitting on top of the snapped one. I haven't even gotten to really play with this baby yet and I kinda wanted to imagine what it could look like.

I got a replacement head laser from @kkx. PM him and he may still have or be able to get/make them.
Replacement received! Thank you and @kkx for the hook-up. Now my YF-19 can fend off any angry Zentradi in pursuit from the rear!
Unrelated, but I was watching DYRL last night and noticed that the ancient city sure looked a lot like the design cues present in a lot of tech in Macross Plus and even in the design of the YF-19 itself. I've never really noticed that before!
