  1. I got the glue.  It is too small of an area for good adhesion so it didn't work.  I might try one more time but I don't think it's going to hold.  I might end up selling the valk as broken and buying another one who knows.  I have stated broken item and sold one in the past before.

Im having a simillar issue with my Arcadia YF-19, the Tamiya cement just wont do it, and the ABS version its nearly impossible to find here in Mexico

The activator in Tamiya ABS cement is acetone.  The issue here is these plastics aren't really ABS so even acetone won't even etch it.  I haven't bought the plastic weld just yet but that's more than likely the route I'm going to have to take.

I bought the plastic weld I should have it soon then I'll hopefully be able to fix this.

  3. yeah ebay but it has been quite a while ago now.  I figured the 60 was fine at the time but still want to try to fix that piece :)  that bonding kit looks like possibly the way to go because it has plastic etch but I understand, too, that this plastic quite possibly can't be etched and bonded like other plastics can be.  With little surface area, it's kinda difficult to find an adequate solution.

  4. Yeah I just wish the glue wasn't black.  Also odd this valkyrie came from the factory like this and one of the tail wings has some stress which I didn't do.  this is why I was trying to get another copy of this valkyrie.

  5. Here's a photo of the part that is broken.  Part of it is snapped into the fuselage and the other is between the legs.  It is grey, do you think a clear epoxy would work?  Or should I just try gorilla glue?

  6. Hello, supposedly these are made from ABS plastic that's fine and all but I bought Tamiya ABS cement and it doesn't work.  Also have tried acetone by itself, it doesn't cut the plastic at all.  Does anyone know of a cement that will bond the plastic on this thing?  The plastic piece that attaches the legs to the fighter plane in robot mode is broken in this valk and I would like to fix it to where it won't keep breaking off.  I hope any of this makes sense.

    Thanks

  7. I cancelled on amazon and bought the Hi-Metal R VF-0S on ebay.  Anyway, short review. This thing is small.  I expected it to be a little bigger than a regular valkyrie but it is about the same size.  Anyway, amazon stuff ships in March I think.  It has been out in Japan for some time now.  I think I paid less this way.

  8. I just bought the VF-0S pre-order on amazon from Tamishii Nations store for $135 shipped including tax and free shipping after $10 discover card discount.  Pretty good.  glad to see this stuff finally hitting US stores.  oh wait lol that's because it auto applied my $30 cash back, too.

  9. Dumb question but why does it seem like ever since Harmony Gold and Bigwest made an agreement and Bandai had that questionnaire about Macross related toys, is that they seem to have stopped doing original Macross in Chogokin? 😕  Anyone know when we might be looking at another announcement?

  10. Hey guys I got my Tamiya Cement for ABS plastic in the mail today.  I had to order it from Taiwan to get a decent price.  Nothing new to me with Tamiya products there's just literally no hobby stores around any more.

Anyways I think this stuff will work.  I glued it already.  It's just a real small piece and I read reviews so supposedly I think this Tamiya cement will bond the plastic back together and the only way it will break is by force and I read that usually it will break somewhere else because it bonds so well.

Let's hope after it dries and I put it in robot mode that everything is all good.

So ... I thought I was done picking up Valkyries but, since being away from the forums for a bit, I completely missed the VF-1D release and just saw the armored VF-1J set!  The VF-1D really triggered some strong memories of watching Robotech in the 80s, so now I have a VF-1D on its way to me. 😁 I'm also trying to decide if I want to grab the armored VF-1J set.  I'm hoping someone here might be able to answer a question for me though: does the VF-1J that comes in the armored set have the enhancements that later releases got, in particular, does the nose-cone have the lip on the peg to keep the cone from flopping down?

I'm trying to decide if I'd rather get the armored kit and just throw that on my VF-1S or VF-1A...but I've always wanted the VF-1J argh.  I'm tempted to get the super parts set too but it's like $300 cad to get that over here.  Wow - that's almost 2/3rds of what I paid for the VF-1D.  😅

I have a spare armor set I could sell you.

If you miss the DX 1J+GBP right now @Digitalfiend, it's going to get harder to find one in the future and the its not going to get cheaper. Poke in the For Sales threads if a member has one spare that they're willing to sell off plus look at secondary Japanese retailers like Amiami and Mandarake (there's also a dedicated thread for it also). If you see one that catches your eye and at the price range that you can afford and willing to take, snag it.

However the risk is that another few customers is also eyeing it a the same time you are and it's a race to get a order in before it vanishes.

    They are reasonable on ebay.

You can probably fill a claim against the seller, get back your money and try a different seller, you should try.

I got partial refund and bought the ABS glue and put the rest of the moneys back on my CC.  Thanks.  Hopefully Tamiya ABS glue works as good as I think it might.  I will use the rest of the glue on a couple of polystyrene kits I have, as I read that their ABS glue can be used on ABS and polystyrene which is pretty good.  I lost my Tamiya thin cement, no idea where that stuff is.

I had the same problem with one VF-1J Armored I purchased from OkiniLand and they exchanged the piece, it took a lot of time but finally the piece was shipped to me these days. If you bought it from a store with good reputation try this, Okini told me they sent it back to Bandai for a replacement. I tried to glue it but it didn't work as expected so I just took the long road for an exchange.

Unfortunately I got it on ebay and the seller isn't responding yet so I probably won't be able to go that route.  I'll try the ABS plastic glue that Angesdad mentioned.

Thanks for all your replies guys, much appreciated :)

  15. Hey guys I just imported a chogokin valk from Japan which, you know that center piece that clips into the canope and holds the legs onto the valk in robot mode?  The grey piece of plastic that is hinged off of the metal piece.  Anyway, that plastic came broken from the factory.  What would you guys do?  Bug the seller about it or just glue it and leave it be?  And also would I want to use Tamiya thin model glue to get a good bond?  Thanks for your advice.

  16. meh. I liked the whole thing.  it wasn't entirely like the battle scenes were icing on the cake since there was a lot of CG instead of pure anime.

  17. Macross Zero?  It was pretty good.  I wish I could get into Macross Frontier tho', too.

What ever happened to Bandai re-releasing the VF-1S Roy strike valkyrie?  I never managed to pick one of those up.

  18. I might get one but what the heck happened to the Chogokin line? I thought they would be burning another hole in our wallet with that stuff again quickly.
