Thing is, it's already been done better: 891fb33ad3.jpg

At legends scale and without faux parts. Apart from the single piece loincloth and lack of engine intakes, this is pretty close to perfection in a transformable Blitzwing toy.  It's not a matter of if, but how much effort is expended in the engineering.  Their Astrotrain is a similar story; very well executed alts and a good looking bot mode, absolutely superior to the terrible Siege toy. Sometimes, in cases such as this and Astrotrain, I wish Hasbro & Takara would just contract out their engineering and let companies like this do the designs. Even if it elevated the price tag, the cost would be worth it to at least get a well done version of the figure rather than some of the lackluster efforts Hasbro peddles.

Completely agree. This figure is very well done.  One of the best Blitzwings IMO.  Still looking forward to the new Hasbro offering, but this little guy is very impressive in his own right.

Ah, man!  That stinks.  I have the Matty Voltron and the leg of the Blue Lion just snapped off while transforming it.  The material choice on those lions seem so cheap to me.  Thin and weak.

I still enjoy it's giant presense and the chest logo-head reveal is so satisfying.  Just wish it was a bit sturdier without all the spring gimmicks.

  3. Forgive my noob-ish questions here, but I need some help.

Will any fast/super packs work on the VF-1J Bandia DX?

I love the DX VF-1J and recently received the missle set.  I really can't afford to go all in on VF-1S, but really dig the big thrusters and armor of the fast/super packs.  I know it's not cannon with the show.

Like I said, it was a bitch!

But basically, it took patience and finagling with a soft ruler and some other “tools” I made. I think a regular pencil with an eraser would work well but I didn’t have one so I used a thick rubber band wrapped over an Allen wrench to push the cutout into place. I started with the small part on the left side and pushed it all the way in. There is space behind the molded buildings that you can tuck the cutout behind. Hardest part is at the right side where you have to fold the paper and tuck it behind the buildings in the corner. Tucking in that side usually pulled the left side towards the right so that’s when I used the rubber band tool to push it back into place. Once you get it in the right place, it fits perfectly. Excellent design by @wm cheng Thank you so much! I still don’t know what the other images are for though...The ones between the ruler to print the correct size. Did you figure out where those go?

Thanks for the tips.  I'm not sure where the other images go.  I thought they were options instead of the city, but I didn't look that close.

  5. I'm really happy with these pieces.  Real quality in these Macross lines.  I'm looking forward to getting the missle pack for the DX VF-1J and hopfully a Super Pack.

  6. It's been awhile since posting some progress on this guy. . . I've finally added all the littel screw covers and snap-in bits.  There is so much great detail in this piece.

Here is the beast in a flying pose with a pencil eraser topper VF-1J in gerwalk mode to try and scale with it.  Also pictured is the glorious DX VF-1J.  I placed some Diaclone pilots to scale with the DX VF-1J.

    Enjoy

Not quite.  The back of his thighs have a notch cut-out so you can fold the hind legs underneath.  He also has an ab-crunch of sorts.  The pics below show about how close you can get it.  The front legs aren't long enough to get this pose.

Incidently, I was able to get the LD Die Cast Black Lion to sit in that pose:

Ffs. Bandai, you suck. This happened the first time, thought i would get lucky the 2nd time, but... no.

Who does it benefit not making enough to supply those who want to buy? I guess I'll support KO makers on this one, so disappointing.

    It's a pity amazon.com doesn't carry this :(

You could try to get your hands on the Icarus Voltron or Mad Toys Voltron.  Both are made with decent die cast and have a premium feel to them.  I had the Mad Toys one and only sold it after I got the SOC.  I regret selling it as it is a really fun version with tons of accessories.  You should be able to find one on ebay for around $300

Just curious. Can the SoC Black Lion can sit and pose like this?

  10. I finally transformed this beast!  Very intuitive, but tricky with the thin shoulder canons and bridge antenna.  Also, started adding all the screw covers.  They really add some nice detail to an already great piece.

The 1/250 figters are a bit too big on the SDF-1 (as expected), but they'll make a nice addition to the display area.
