  1. Having worked with Citadel metallics for years, I can say they are some of the best available and forgive brush painting readily, BUT they need to be thoroughly mixed for a good consistency. I use an electric paint shaker and a couple stainless steel ball bearings in the paint pot and that’s always done the trick.

  2. I read somewhere a long, long time ago that the sculptor of the 1/72 Yamato toys didn’t really care about the line art, or Macross in general. It was a job, not a passion project.

As for incorporating the nacelles into the leg transformation, I don’t think that would be acceptable because that wouldn’t follow the lineart at all. The only engine bits are in the intakes, for the “pre-compressor” fan, and in the nacelle bulges which house the actual engines, and those incorporate into the backpack, not the legs. If any part of them did go into the legs, you wouldn’t have a delimiter mode.

Perhaps the thing to do would be to have the wings fold flat, if they can, and make modifications to the backpack hinges to allow it to fit more closely to the actual battroid body. Or modify the wing hinges so any impediment they have to fold flat will be eliminated.

  3. Yeah. Don’t. It’s the plastic, it weakens over time. I think the CF variant has a metallic sheen to the dark grey plastics, which did something very not good when it was injected-molded to be made. No other 171 has this metallic plastic, so they don’t have nearly this many problems.

  4. This is a solidly engineered Valkyrie. The main problems the FSP version had was a broken head laser and a vertical fin that wanted to fall off. The 19 Advance that came before I don’t recall any real faults. Go ahead and transform it. Watch Jenius’ videos about it first though.

  5. It looks so ungainly on its landing gear. The gunpods look like they touch the ground.

Delimiter mode looks awesome. Very fast, very smooth.

Gerwalk mode with the Super Parts looks very cool and purposeful. Might be its best look.

Sigh. I’ll get one. My last pre-order of all time. Is it December 31st or January 10th? And will it still be PO hell, or more calm?

  6. Wow… let me just say something: not long ago I was awake at oh-dark-thirty with six browser tabs open, credit card locked and loaded, to wait for the 10-second preorder window for, say, the YF-19 Full Set Pack or the VF-31C. I’d pay then pay about $35 or so more for EMS shipping, wait six months or more for the thing to be produced, and hope to hell I didn’t get Bandai’ed because repairs were impossible and returns were so expensive it wouldn’t be worth doing.

But now, if I order within 90 minutes, I can get a DX VF-31AX delivered to my house with free shipping.

    TODAY.

    ON SALE.

    EASILY RETURNED.

Much has gone wrong in this timeline, but THIS much has gone very, very right.

  7. Hi all. I have a 1/60 Yamato VF-11B that’s missing one of the intake covers. A couple years ago I took it out of the box, pulled out the covers to display it in an atmospheric mode and one of them ejected itself onto my basement floor. You’d think I’d have found it due to the floor being concrete, but no. Damn continuity elves.

So if someone here with a golden heart and a 3D printer could help, I’d truly appreciate it. If you don’t have a Thunderbolt of your own, that’s OK, if you’ve got a positive, long-term rep on this forum I’ll loan you mine for measure/fitment.

And while I'm here, I’d also appreciate a clip to hold the RVF-171EX gunpod on to one of its wing hardpoints. It’s always struck me as odd that Bandai included the pod, but there’s no way to store it in Fighter mode.

    Many, many thanks.

  8. Landing gear looks odd. The front gear has a hinge in the strut but looks like it stows perfectly straight, so what’s it for?

Main gear too, pics say it rotates 90 degrees but it seems to stow in the same orientation as when it’s extended. Why?

EDIT: seems the main gear rotates 180 to extend. Wow. That’s… a choice.

  9. The good: dem legs, LOTS of details molded in, probably clever engineering, I like the shade of blue

The bad: this looks like fighter mode will be sacrificed to Battroid mode. Lately Bandai can’t manage to actually build its clever engineering to be reliable. You didn’t like the YF-19’s extra tampo? Here’s much, much MOAR!

The ugly: that torso is deeper than Maime Van Doren’s. Backpack must be hiding many sins. Of all the extra tampo, I particularly hate the hip skirts’ the most. Looks totally out of place.
