  1. Don't know if anyone has already posted this but the Asuka carrier is now available for preorder at HLJ. If anyone needs the link, let me know and I'll post it. Is it my imagination or does the other shown carrier, the Hyuga, look somewhat different than the Asuka?
  2. Didn't even see that there was an Andromeda. Lord that's tempting. The headache I'd dread is just trying to make sure I got all the pieces. Are there any photos of the final beast?
  3. Still nothing I could find on funimation beyond the streaming episodes for 2202 pt 2 and Amazon Prime is still only offering the first 12 eps of 2202 for purchase. Would definitely like to see a new Chogokin Andromeda (or my fantasy: a 1/500 scale model kit of it). Does anyone know if there were any garage/resin kits released other than the initial Hayabusa kit from the first series?
  4. A question: where were you able to find this concept sketch of an alternate Andromeda carrier? It's a very nice design and the front deck struts and some of the other shapes remind me a bit of IJN Shinano from the very end of WW2. There aren't a lot of books with Yamato concept work other than the two big books for Yamato 2199 (which are very nice) and I really hope some more will start to appear, hopefully with more of the "new" Earth ships. There's the "Hyperweapon" book from back in 2012(?) which had few pages with a "Musashi" that looked interesting (really different command section of the central "citadel") and some stuff of the "super" Andromeda ships and "Noah" flagship but very little else. Thank you very much for posting the sketch:). Definitely would like to have seen a big model of this version, although the suggested lowering of the launch deck on the new "canon" Apollo design would make a nice model too...
  5. Thank you for posting the pics. I really like some of the lines they added. Will have to get this one to keep the 1/1000 Andromeda cmpany. Now if only they'd make a 1/500 Andromeda to go with the big Yamato kit... Has anyone heard anything about any concept art or even just general art books for Yamato 2202?
  6. Sorry, I must have missed it (oh dear, I have to force myself to go back and watch ep 2 again;)...). Thanks for the correct:)
  7. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that is one of the ships from Yamato: Resurrection. If so, there are no models from that movie that I'm aware of except the wonderfest resin kit of the "Super Andromeda" battleship which is pretty rare although I have seen it on ebay
  8. Well, there is always the possibility of adding on to one of the Anrdomeda model kits with IJN spare parts like anti aircraft batteries and the like. There's a gorgeous Andromeda in one of the Space Battleship Yamato Hobby Japan special "mook"s where a person named Naoki Kimura did a very elegant upgrade of the older 1/700 scale Andromeda kits including building up and stretching the central superstructure. Here's a link with some of the models shown in the book (you need to scroll down almost all the way to the bottom to see the Andromeda but there is also a very cool Andromeda based heavy carrier along the way so...) http://www.books-wasabi.com/product/292 if you'd like more shots of the Kimura Andromeda build, I have the book and can probably scan out some of the pictures that don't spread across both pages. Let me know. definitely gives ideas on how to subtly tweak the design and upgrade the ship while keeping the overall lines and silhouette
  9. Apologies for going back to an earlier question: Is the "new" Andromeda is different from the original series. I compared a model build of the old 1980s Andromeda Bandai kit vs. one of the "new" one and the new ship is much larger (I believe the official measurements place it at 444 meters where the original was somewhere in the 300 meter range) since the original model is 1/700 and this one is 1/1000 and they are the same length. The proportions are actually fairly different in that the newer Andromeda isn't as thick or as wide proportional to it's length as the older version, leaving it looking leaner and "faster". Beyond that there are a number of subtle contour differences such as the suggestions of what in a modern submarine would be a pair of "pressure hulls" subtly rising out from the sides about 1/3 of the way from the front of the main hull as well as differences in the rear "scoop" and how it flows into the main hull. There are a lot more small curves and angles in the ship which may be from the modern series having a CG ship, allowing it to be shown from any angle without greater difficulty versus the original design being animated by hand, making the inclusion of subtle undercuts, projections etc prohibitively difficult to draw cost effectively in the original Yamato 2 series. I've worked professionally in 3d since 1995 and I suspect that the new Andromeda model may very well be a Solidworks (or similar) CAD/CAM version based on the 3d data set used for the actual show, allowing for a great deal of accuracy. I observed in one of the various Japanese hobby magazines that a project was done by an individual with access to the Mielda Dietz fighter 3d model data set to produce a 3d print based model that turned out beautifully in 1/72 scale. In ending, I should say that, having a kit of the new Andromeda, I've been able to look over the quality of the build and the quality of assembly and both are excellent. The VFX wave motion gun modules aren't as bright as I like but I'm a complete brightness fiend who would love to put some of the tri-Cree or Luxeon Tri Rebel LEDs I use when building lightsaber props into that area. One cool thing; however; is that the sound and light effect are synced up on the wave gun build up to firing moment and that would be tricky to due oneself unless one is familiar with Arduino or similar tools and having sound FX is always just cool from the word go. On a related subject, has anyone yet figured out why the Aldebaran is being released as a separate model? The only thing that would, at first glance, seem to different is that the Andromeda model only comes with decals specific to the Andromeda...
