Not if you're careful. I put a figure out for two days and the difference was remarkable. 

I know most people think it's a joke, but it's really not. It's a better solution than a chemical bath.

Speaking about the High Metal. I bought one for my Focker Army (got the idea from @jenius pic below). I took it out of the box last night. The difference in quality between the Hi Metal and HMR is MASSIVE!

 

Pop it in direct sunlight for a day or two outside - the sun should be able to bleach the plastic back to whiteness, I've used the technique on a few Transformers I own.

That's a lovely display, I really ought to invest in better stands for my Valks too. I try not to clutter mine, but the Transformer Masterpiece shelves are about as full as they can be ><

The Kronos is a gorgeous Battroid, the colour scheme gives it a bit of a Patlabor look, especially those legs. Go for it

Kronos was my first ever Valk, I happened to be in Japan when it came out and I fell in love with it. Slippery slope from there!

I only have two 31's, Mirage and Hayate. I only really double up with the Hi Metal R's - I have 3 of the Messer VF1J Anniversary valks (picked one up for £25 at Nakano!), 3 of the VF2SS, and I suppose if you take into account all the recolours, 6 VF1's (Max, Miria, the Messer colours and a Fokker version). Much as I love the larger Valks, the HMR figures are like mini-masterpieces, just a fantastic size for display.

Scares me to think I only have 5 of those releases, but so many multiples! I'm tempted by the Nexx Gilbert VF-2SS even though I have 2 of the Sylvie type. They really nailed the sculpt though... I think I'll be hunting HMR on my next trip to Japan...

I agree, I always loved the design, probably because it was my first exposure to Macross proper. I have two on my desk at work keeping guard!

That said, HMR gave me new respect for the VF1, it's a timeless design. All in I'm a lot poorer (but happier) thanks to HMR!

Still loving my Max and Milia combo. I could buy at this scale for everything in all honesty.

I managed to pick up the HMR Max variant for 6,000Yen at Mandarake in Feb, but best deal I found was 4,000 Yen for the Messer 35th VF1. Already had 2, but couldn't leave it alone for that price.

As for the feet, no problems as yet.

I picked up another Messer 1S at Nakano last month for 4,000 yen. I like the deco so for that price, it was rude NOT to. Half what I paid when it came out as I recall. I now have the Max variant (6,000 Yen, Mandarake) and Myria on the way (11,000). It really pays to shop around in Japan!

I am getting quite addicted to this toy though, I may need help.

I've just returned from Japan, so lots of new toys. Picked up a nice second-hand Max VF-1 HMR for 6,000 Yen - very happy!

Also came back to a statue I've been hunting for ages

My original Chogokin VF25 suffered the same fate, but the Renewal has survived the ravages of time. It is a nasty business given the cost of these things, but in a world of white Valks we're especially vulnerable ;_;

Finally got my second 2SS from Yes Asia - no customs this time though so the price worked out about the same as HLJ. Sadly they aren't anywhere near as fast :/

Still, very pleased to have it, must dig out my old model kit version for a proper family get together!

I for one would love the option for vanilla releases and Fast Pack versions. I prefer the VF2 sans-armour in Valk mode, and since I have a second on the way, at least one will leave the majority of the plastic in the box. Currently my Focker VF1 is in Valk mode without armour so I can leave the Fast Pack with one of my two Messer valks, but it's really a case of can't please everyone I guess.

My sense with the Messer version is that it's just an anniversary novelty as much as anything, and an attempt to generate interest in the older series from Delta fans, so they made it as affordable as possible. 

Got my hands on one of these and got to play on Youtube - great piece of kit, lots of fun. Not as big as I was expecting but damn, it looks great with those decals @dragonstar1982

Agreed, I really like the Messer deco. Granted not everyone seems to like it, but I think it brings a modern sensibility to the design.

Makes for nice pics too (though I was still finding my way with these shots!)

Yes Asia are okay, won’t know if they’ve delivered until tomorrow as I’ve been off work with a cold and they’re delivering to the office, but honestly consider them a last resort. Compared to most they’re very expensive and they charge up front. I only used them to secure a VF2 when I kept missing the lightning pre-orders. As Macross II was the first taste I had of Macross, it holds a special place for me.

Thanks all for the photo compliments too, just started taking toy pics this year, it’s a great way to enjoy a collection

Fun as the VF2 is, we all know this is the daddy!

I agree - it's overpriced, floppy and looks awful in the other modes, but it does look great in Battroid - I have the Nexx version alongside my Chogokins. I do wish the materials were better, but it looks good enough.

The HMR version though - dayum! Love it to pieces, just hope Yes Asia gets my second one here soon so that I can work on my display. Will likely pick up the Nexx version of the HMR release too for a little variety.

The Valkyrie mode is, from certain angles, quite lovely. It might not be in the same league as Kawamori's best, but as a design unto itself it works well enough for me, even with the nostalgia goggles removed.

Nuts, I only learned about the service earlier this year (thanks to you lovely people) and it's really helped me pick things up I would otherwise have missed. A great shame, but as someone who has run a hobby site for 22 years I can totally understand how draining it can be.

For all the people they've helped, I'm sure they'll be leaving with a ton of goodwill and gratitude.

Waiting to ship mine with the anniversary Hi-Metal figures I ordered. The great pics on here numb the pain a bit, but nothing will beat having this in-hand. So pleased I managed to get one on the day.

Hopefully the HMR VF-2SS will be easier to grab on launch as well. Fingers crossed anyway!

God that's frustrating. You almost need ninja reflexes to nab these things. Guess I'm stuck with bloody ebay scalper prices again
