  1. I had the most bizarre experience with HLJ just now, just to pen down my experience :

So I managed to add the MB Justice into my shopping cart and proceeded to checkout. All went well until the confirm payment/order page and the circle of death popped up just as I click confirm order/payment. What happened next, I was brought back to the shopping cart page with MB justice still in the cart, and again I tried to check out the item, but this time a notification came about at the confirm payment/order page indicating that PO is closed and I couldn't complete my order.

However moments ago i received an (delayed) Order Acknowledgement and Confirmation from HLJ, indicating that I did secure one.

So I guess all is good.

  2. I think the HMR line has its appeal, especially with the size, articulations and details. The VF-1J GBP HMR was probably one of the best GBP made, even for its size.

Would you prefer it in a bigger box with the extra padding but a higher shipping charge? The increase in price can be substantial and that's the trade off. I think the boxes they use are good enough to withstand dings unless something really heavy lands on it.

From where I come from, careful handling is almost non-existent in most local courier companies. More often than not a bigger box with extra fillers would save you the hassle (and agony) of a damaged item.

Don’t get me wrong though, HLJ has always packed my orders with care, and I’m all for cheaper shipping charge.  All I’m saying is DHL has handled my Roy with utmost care and I appreciate it :)

  4. Shipped out from HLJ via DHL on Tuesday and arrived today. HLJ shipped my Roy in a shipper box slightly larger than the item itself with not much space for any fillers. Was almost sure that the slightest damage to the shipper box would inevitably damage the actual item itself.

TBH, I’m pleasantly surprised that Roy arrived at my doorstep without any visible damage to the shipper box. Kudos to DHL!

  5. My PO from AmiAmi was shipped + 5600 yen DHL shipping fees on Monday. Estimate to arrive at my doorstep today.

Surprisingly my other PO from HLJ, shipped via DHL as well, cost me 4450 yen, which is 1150 yen lesser. Item was shipped on Tuesday and estimated to arrive today as well.

Since DHL shipping is calculated by way of volume and not weight, I'm curious to find out whether AmiAmi packs the item in a larger box (hopefully with more fillers) than HLJ does. Will find out tonight I guess

  6. Speaking from personal experience shopping with Mandarake:

    1) SAHRA pre-estimated shipping costs are slightly higher than other Mandarake outlets around nearby region, as they are averaged out on merchandise of the similar size/dimensions (Mandarake’s shipping boxes comes in a variety of fixed sizes).

    2) if you compare SAHRA’s shipping cost and another  within nearby region, say UTSUNOMIYA or COMPLEX, the latter would usually (from my experience) be cheaper than SAHRA’s pre-estimated shipping cost. This is particularly true when it comes to DHL options. However I am unsure whether the distance from SAHRA to Tokyo airport plays a part in the slight increase of cost.

    3) Mandarake’s DHL option is comparatively cheaper than other retailers, e.g., Ami-Ami, Jungle. However I can’t be sure whether this is consistent across all merchandises. (I’ve shipped a DX VF-1J via Mandarake and Ami Ami, and the DHL cost for Ami Ami proves higher

  7. Yup, usually it should be there unless it was purchased in-store before the you checked out online. Happened to me once. Best is to get a confirmation email on the item, which usually would come after the first email (acknowledging your order placed)

  8. The yammies were revolutionary for its time. Looking back, it still holds the test of time (in regard to the engineering and design). Bandai improved and made the engineering and design even better through the DX. If at all, my two cents says the DX modernized the engineering and design of the Valk, whilst paying homage to the Yammies.

Oh ok. Because I think the first time it came up on Mandarake, somebody here said it was 23K.

I think that one listed for 23k was opened (if my memory serves me right).

On a side note, I did manage to snag an extra Vf-1S from Mandarake at 25k Yen. (Grandchaos outlet). From my observations Grandchaos and Nagoya outlets seem to have the most placed on sale. That having said, most of them sold out before one could click on the “add to cart” button

that is why he said, use whatever works for you. That what works best for him. The extra dollar do counts towards something in the end (again depends on how many you purchase in a year).

Not disputing that, just saying that some may consider time and other factors when deciding a shipping method, to each his own. Not intending to stir any debate here.

I don’t ship as much yearly (again depends on the releases), but if you purchase frequently I guess the extra dollar would easily pile up.

If you want it fast and don’t care about price, use EMS or DHL. But to me, that is rookie:D

“Real” collectors know they spend the least possible on shipping no matter how long it takes because money saved goes towards more collection. But seriously, use whatever method works best for you. I’ve tried them all and I have great delivery people so it really doesn’t matter for me so I always go the cheapest route.

If you’re paying that much for a toy, I don’t think the extra dollar going into shipping would really make much of a difference.

What you’re paying for is the “time” for the toy to be delivered to you, and the ease of mind with tracking and insurance packaged under the shipping cost.
