Mecha featured in VOTOMS, Gasaraki, and the like would be too small to carry arms of any significance that would make the units more useful than current light vehicles. Armed jeeps, assault armor, and other light attack vehicles would be infinitely more versatile, cheap, and useful than small mecha.
I have to disagree with this statement. Mechs of that size would be able to go places a jeep couldn't. I doesn't take much to stop a wheeled vehicle and the current gulf war has taught the army just how vunerable helos are. I can't really speak for the Gasaraki but the scopedog can carry a buttload of heavy weapons.
The whole point of a feasable small mecha would be to provide a significant military resource that could go places a light vehicle could not, while at the same time possessing more advantages over conventional infantry that can go anywhere. In this list of criteria would as be such oft-forgotten considerations like cost-benefit of the mecha unit, operational endurance compared to conventional units, unforseen vulnerabilites of an unconvetional humanoid mecha, worth of the mecha unit as compared to the combined arms of the military, etc.
From where I stand, a realistic analysis of those anime mecha within the scope of our foreseeable future technological abilities would not provide a viable result.
It's OK if we don't agree but to in my opinion the scopedog meets all of your criteria. It's capable of carring a multitude of weaponsystems. It's able to handle enviroments where conventional vehicles can not operate, including zero-G. cost is irrelevant to thics discussion since these are fantasy designs it's impossible to put a pricetag on them except to say that the fact that they exist in thier respective universes means that they must be cost effective to produce.

They treat it like a matter of national security. Are all Japanese companys like that? It seems to me like the new president is just a dick. The same time he popped up the QC went into the crapper and they quit talking to Graham.
Personally I don't trust them anymore.
I'll probably get the 48 GBP but not untill I've seen everyone elses. -
Is your Max VF-1S 1/48 holding the SMGs from the HALO 2 figure?
Yes they are, took forever to get those hands on them. Finally took them off since everytime someone bumped the area, one or both would fall off.

Cool! I thought so. I got one of my valks holding the sniper rifle from the HALO weapons pack. My goal is to get the rocket launcher fitted into the valk's hands.
i'm not sure how big the grip for the gun is but have you tried using the TV hands? or even super-poseable hands? cause they'll probably fit and hold it pretty tight. just a suggestion.

Actually after forcing several objects not meant for Valkyrie hands on my 48s I can say with athority that the skeleton hands are better for for this sort of thing. You can strech them a little. The fat hands dont give at all.

I've been wondering, what happens to the pilot of a legioss in armo-soldier mode? Does the cockpit right itself like a VF-1 or does he just hang there on the back sitting upside down untill all of his blood rushes into his head?

Just like everything Russian, it's design was ripped off from something else.

Those damn Russkies!

We Americans would never do anything like that! (MG-42 - M60)

More like MG-42 and FG-42 had a baby named M-60.
But I won't tell if you don't.

Thanks for all the pics Chowser-
So the big red one in the background on the right is a 1/48th, and the 2 standing to his left are 1/55ths? (The VF-1S and VF1-J Hikaru)
If your talking about my pic, it goes from left to right, back row: 1/60 Hikaru 1A, 1/55 Hikaru 1A, 1,55 Hikaru 1S (TV), 1/48 Hikaru 1A, front row: 1/55 Hikaru 1J, 1/48 Roy Strike 1S. (sheesh, I didn't realise I liked Hikaru's 1A so much

I don't have one but from the pic on Yamato's site I'd say that's a big negatory good buddy.

If you took the fin things off the shoulders and scaled em down to 20-25 feet tall...the EVAs are by far the most plauseable humanoid designs....the Super robot Red Baron would be my number two pick
There are big problems with Votoms, Labors, even Madox and such...try sticking 20lbs of wieght around your ankles, put on some oversize clown shoes, then run around...it ain't easy, and has nothing to do with your leg strength...the weight shifts your normal weight bias around more closely mimicing typical "realistic" mecha...course the clown shoes mimic the oversize lower legs and feet...course those designs also overlook another very important part of humanoid anatomy...our flexible back and shoulders...in short if you want it to move like a human, well it really needs to have the same wieght bias and flexability...
Another thing to think about...say you set out to design a mecha that can run 60 miles per hour...each foot wieghs one ton...it has a 80 foot stride running this fast...lets see in one minute that mech travels 5280 feet, which means it makes 66 strides to cover that distance....thats a bit over one per second...so every second the mech must pick its 2,000 pound foot up...swing it forward some 80 feet at greater then 60MPH....plant it back on the ground again to repeat the cycle ... Now if you can design a trouble free low maintance ankle, knee, and hip joint that can take that much stress and punishment...then you will quickly find that such joints DO NOT need armor protection

Not that I'm into mecha for plauseability and/or realisam anyway

Votoms mechs have wheels in thier feet. That's what makes em so dang practical.

The more I think about it, I am not likely to buy any new destroids. I'm satisfied with my Matchbox 'troids.
edited for bad grammar.

Does Fox even show anything other than American Idol? I quit watching any Fox shows along time ago. I don't remember that mech about SAAB except that after watching the last episode I knew it wasn't coming back. That really sucked.
Now about those Cylon's wanting babies. You guys keep talking about Six and Boomer wanting to get knocked up. Did I miss something? How can robots have babies?

ASTA LA VISTA, BABY.

Opus if I may ask. What model minigun is that?
I've been looking for one that good for a while now.
That's from Takara Cool Girl series, the PAS trooper. It's still available, IIRC, from HLJ.
It's a cool-looking weapon, but too darn big. My PAS Trooper is now with a MG39.

The Takara version is a bit pricey you can get the exact same toy from BBI for about $50 less. I got mine here: http://www.allthingscollectible.com/index....d4a23f82445ec75
Her name is Destiny.

BBI has stopped distributing them so you better get it while you can.

1'd say 1/60 myself, there's more variety of valks in 1/60, the Q-Raus are in 1/60, so make my destroids in 1/60.

besides, i've got no room for a fleet of 1/48s.
That pretty much sums up my fellings on the subject as well.

Yup, movie II-VI uniforms were the best.
I always thought the TOS colors made more sense than the TNG, though I do wonder if there's a side story for the switch...
I remember reading that it was a simple case of Patrick Stewart looking better in red than mustard yellow.

Good thinking but then why did Kirk always wear yellow in the original series, and all the guys in red shirts got wasted? TOS=> red = dead
In the old days, red = cannon fodder.
Or Scotty.
scotty was going to die anyways all the drinking he does
He outlived Kirk.
Yeah, but he couldn't yodel.

Moley?
Yes as in covered in big ugly moles.

I'm all confused about the physical nature of cylons. I thought they were androids but the raider in the last episode had guts and not you guys are posing theories about cross-breeding with humans?

I also don't uderstand what you guys think Boomer is so hot. She looks like a chipmunk and she's all bumpy to boot. Which bring me to another odd observance, why is the cast so moley? Ick....
