  1. GOD I can't wait to show this guy off when I get my preordered Tak version!!! Last time I anticipated a toy this much was the SOC Dancougar... but this could easily be my most aniticipated toy ever...for us used to spending $100+ usd to feed our toy-crack addictions, the detail, gimmicks, and decent price for a diecast toy this size (even Tak's more expensive version + shipping) is unbeatable. To me the extra $25 + shipping means (hopefully) longer smoke stacks and bragging rights for the first few months while everyone else is waiting for their Hasbro version to come out. I could care less about the cardboard trailer though. I think the cardboard trailer is lame and I can't see myself displaying this awesome piece with something so simple. Looking at it makes me want the real thing even more...Until Palisades or whoever releases one, I'll be displaying this behemoth of a toy in robot mode to show how big he is and all his engineering glory. I definitely need those long smokestacks though cos Prime just doesn't look right without em. Its a distinguishing character, along with the windshield, grill and tires, that shows Prime is a Semi-truck in his other form.
  2. The movie isn't really too impressive but it's pretty good to introduce anyone into the story because it combines everything from the entire series in one sitting. i.e dogfights, character interaction, fight scenes where Spike still manages to get his ass whooped even with his Bruce Lee style of fighting, some comedy, etc)
  3. I'm also going with Ballad (pt 1). It pretty much explains the basic concept of the series in one episode and the ending/beginning leaves you hanging wanting more. The awesome music also helps...Spike going through the stained glass has got to be the most memorable part of the series for me. Then the movie would be the next thing I show, then Mushroom samba... If she's not interested by then, she prolly won't care much for the whole series.
  4. DOOOH! You're screwed then....start stocking up on r"amen" noodles? You'll thank me later...
  5. Welcome to the addiction. Stay away from the Toys section if you want to keep eating...
  6. If you'll notice in the picture there are two versions of Prime. The robot mode has the battle damage and short stacks, and the truck mode has no damage and larger stacks. I'm still betting the Takara will look like the truck mode version.... I just realized the pics are from HLJ's site and their pics of unreleased toys usually come from actual toy-shows in Japan. I've never known of HLJ using pics of TF toys from Hasbro to sell Takaras versions so I highly doubt both Hasbro versions and Takara versions are being pictured. Also why would they have the two versions displayed in the same case anyways, in a Japanese toy show nevertheless?... I'm hoping that Takara has gone the extra mile (like Binaltech Smokescreen) and probably will release 2 versions, one clean with long stacks & the other battle damaged. BUT at the same time I hope this doesn't wreak havoc for us who preordered from HLJ since they usually ship these kinds of items at random. edit: grammar
  7. yes, but did you look carefully? It's the battle damaged version. That's the version that hasbro is going to release. I'ma stick with the takara version as I always do. Are you sure about that? First of all, can anybody confirm what show or where exactly these pics were taken from?---The reason I ask is if you look carefully, the placard at the top of the display case, in the first pic, has "TAKARA" on it. AND the third pic placard has "MAST" which I am assuming is part of "MASTER PIECE". IIRC, this is the (working?) title Takara is using for their version, while Hasbro is going with "20th Anniversary". I hope I'm wrong but this is really disturbing... {here are the pics I'm talking about for you guys who are too lazy to scroll up} (Also, I'm very surprised that no one has brought this up before me, considering that this site is well known for catching the tiniest of details, bringing back memories of our anticipation for the 1/48 Yammies back in the day)
  8. At first I hated this anime because I thought the original ending just sucked...But NOW it's probably my fave. It only took me a few years to really appreciate how groundbreaking this anime really is... (Granted, I was kinda naive back then and didn't realize that anime could get so complicated with character developement and artsy stuff---I used to watch the cool robots and the seizure causing 'purdy' colors ). I can relate with those that felt ripped off though- we stuck with the series even with the obvious change in pacing and all the weirdness and our only reward was a rushed ending with animated stick figures and no big fight scene to top the first few episodes?!!...I decided to forget about EVA for a few years... that is until all the talk about the anticipated movies coming to DVD in the US. I was interested in how a new ending could possibly fix this anime's problems, and so I began doing some research on the net and I was blown away by all the rumors and stuff I never knew. It was the behind the scenes stuff that sucked me back in, mainly realizing Anno's psychological state when he was working on the series. I was taking a course in college psychology at the time which may have helped in me wanting to go back and give the series a chance. Soon, I caught myself enjoying the anime (my friend had the DVD set so I was lucky I could jump back in) because it really is a glimpse into a person's mind, and maybe your own on how you relate to things [i know some people are saying you can do that with anything but in reality not many books or anime interest me like this]. Since I was a little bit more 'edumacated' with all that analyzing crap you learn in college, I caught my self catching new things (like mama's soul in the Eva) and then making my own interpretations and comparing those with what I had read on the net. YES I'm still confused as hell with some stuff, but everytime I sit down to watch some episodes (especially the original endings I despised and the EOE movie), I find myself either sticking with my original interpretations or trying to understand other people's and sometimes changing my own. I'm not saying this anime gives me the meaning of life, its the stuff like it was supposed to be a 70-80's Giant robot parody(with love triangels, father figure-scientist--son-pilot like in maz or voltesV); or Anno designed his mecha to not be re-created as toys and marketed for merchandising (yet now are kits, toys, VGs and SOCs); and Anno trying to screw Gainax or his fans that hated the original ending with the new endings but its still praised...Yups maybe I'm just weird but its stuff like this and the 'psycho babble' that NOW make this anime real fun for me. BTW, I got my 10 yr old niece watching this anime...she currently likes the school girls piloting the giant robots concept but I'm waiting to see how she will react when things slow down and turn weird. Maybe I shoulda started her out with SakuraWars.
  9. I think you might be a little confused... The white one pictured above is 04 which never really made it on the anime, it vanished with the Nevada facility,IIRC... I believe Bandai just made up a kit for it to boost their Eva kits a few years back, which was actually a metallic silver color. I agree with motley though, I think these Evas are just fillers for Z3, he was slated to be released at the end of this year or beginning of 2004. If Z3 is delayed, then they could just use existing molds (same torso as 00 kai and 02 and just different colors and head) for GX-21 & 22. The mass produced evas would probably require new torso molds if they want to accomodate the wings.
  10. Yes this is a toy but at $75+ a pop, this isn't your average kid's toy. This toy was originally announced as a quality toy for the collector---to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Transformers (as implied by Orson from TFW2005 who no longer is allowed to disclose any Hasbro info)...Heck we [well they] at various TF boards even voted to make OP to be the 20th anniv AND was even unveiled with the long smoke stacks at that TF convention in San Diego back in July...so in essence we all thought Hasbro and Takara was taking a page from Bandai's SOC line. Finally a TF toy made for us fan boys who wave a distinct connection with the original cartoons. But in typical Hasbro fashion, they are thinking with their pockets and they have obviously change their marketing stance to accomodate the younger age groups, hoping the cool factor' will also appeal to today's kids. They know they are pissing off the collectors when they are trying to accomodate both worlds but they don't give a f-ck as long as they take more of our money! For the record I'm not bashing Hasbro [well, maybe I am]. I like some of the things they do. They've taken plenty of my cash because they made RID, the G1 reissues, and the soon to come Alternators line more readily available for us and at lower costs [and so far I've only imported reish OP and BT-01]. BUT Hasbro is again trying to steal Takara's fire and they fail to understand that the Japanese toy market is very successful because they have toys aimed for the collector [kids at heart] that want a quality toy to quench the nostalgia factor. And YES, Takara is also a corporation and no-one can stop them from cutting the stacks just to help Hasbro minimize losses from us importers but I have faith that Takara will do what it takes to keep the collector happy. They've done it countless times in the past. That's the difference between Takara and Hasbro. Takara and other Japanese toy companies like Yamato are often sincere about making their customers as happy as possible while Hasbro and companies like HG and Toynami just follow suit showing no real appreciation for their customers, producing overpriced and "not as good as they could be" toys. Sorry for the long rant in what should've been a short reply again...
  11. Hasbro not at fault? Yeah right... As mentioned by countless others, if Hasbro chooses to label their G1 reissue Prime (as well as a G1 reish Megs) and MPC Prime as "adult toys only and not for children under the age of __ because of choking, poking, etc. hazard" and then sell them at places reserved for adult toy collectors like music stores, hobby/comic shops, or e-tailers, they wouldn't have to deal with the US child safety laws. But since they are a mega corporation out for profit, they will probably choose the short stacks instead of the cartoon accurate ones (that only Freaky Fan boys know about) to basically sell more of the toy. Basically this expensive toy is obviously made to satisfy a broader customer base and was never intended only for the TF fan/collector who can afford them. In addition to us 'Freaky Fan Boys' who are a gimme anyways, Hasbro is also aiming for those kids who can convince their mommies to spend $75 or more on a toy of a character design they probably have no real attachment to and thus the need for the child proofed stacks. Everyone knows mega corporations like Hasbro choose to be vague instead of having to explain the bottom line.
  12. Just got back from watching it....Pretty good action scenes, but nothing "revolutionary" (pun intended); stuff we've mostly seen before, both from the previous two movies and other sci-fis. Like Keith said its kinda "open ended" which is why I probably liked the movie, though I think they could've done away with some of that overly repetitive [four letter word that starts with the letter 'L'] theme. It got to the point where I wanted to puke. But yeah, Its definitely a movie for guys who like to analyze and interpret everything from themes to concepts and open endings. I have this gut feeling that this place will turn into a (NG Evangelion-like) personal interpretation thread once everone has seen the movie.
  13. Well, pulled out the trusty ole goog and I came up with this site which hopefully helps me out in my search for the rumored OVAs.. Will try to download these on my sis comp tomorrow since she has plenty of space unlike my POS notebook.
  14. Now I'm confused.... I saw one of the eps for download on Kazaa and since it was coming from a slow connection I never even bothered. I couldn't believe it at first either so I did some research on the net and there info all over about this, like this review I read almost a year ago... From what I read at other places, I'm under the impression that there is a 3-4 part OVA.
  15. I recently got a chance to rediscover Nadesico (along with Eva and Bebop cos my notebook went bust on me and 3 weeks of hell going without the net or MW). All I know is that Gekiganger III was what made me love the Nadesico series and may have been responsible in getting me back into Gokins and toy collecting. I've been meaning to track down the rumored Geki OVAs (which I still haven't seen btw) but have been sidetracked by other stuff mostly Macross and Chogos... But now I've decided that I'm gonna follow through. Don't want the (JP?) LDs since my parent's LD player is like 2000 miles away so I'm wondering if a R1 or R0 DVD version was ever released?..If not, anyone know where I can download all of em? Edit: added in 'rumored' since I obviously need some verification if this OVA even exists...
  16. Looks to be a proto or testshot of Hasbro's version of the molds because the smokestacks seem to be on the short end and as whole looks way too plasticy.
  17. WOW! the Binaltech/Alternators are huge! Check out this comparison shot (BT-Armada-RID-G1-mini) edit: Aargh!! no linking code...try the URL to the image http://tfkenkon.com/collection/act139/bt_s...escreen1_19.jpg
  18. Check out pics of (testshot?) OP. look at where the front tires go!!
  19. Maybe cos it is the (japanese only) N64 Eva game suppose to have released back in 98-99. http://www.gamespot.com/n64/action/neongen...creenindex.html
  20. Woohoo!!! Finally... Not since I was a kid was I this anxious about getting a Transformer toy!! Smokescreen down, just MPC Prime to go (for this year's TF purchases anywayz). I like the BT line but I'm only gonna get the ones that I really like. Waiting for others that appeal to me. In Smokes case, I like the realistic rally paint scheme and real world really driver names. If tak-bro makes a velvet Skyline (my fave car from Gran Tourismo) and a GT Mustang (my car)...then these will be must gets by me. Hmmm, HLJ's account check is down, hope its cos they are processing all the preorders for shipment...
  21. Ahem...So what's the scale? I'm a cheap bastard and I just want him to look complete when displayed in Vehicle Mode.
  22. Yeah, thanks for the heads up... I already had him preordered at BigBadToys but went ahead and also put one in for HLJ too... Wanted to get two Primes anyways and since HLJ always gets their stock way before BBTS, I'm willing to pay extra for EMS to get mine earlier. It will be a good Christmas indeed, too bad some folks on my list will be intentionally forgotten. BTW, does anybody know for sure what scale the MPC OP will be?. I saw a Semi Truck toy (one of those old 80s Tonka bootleg trucks) , with a removable trailer at a local flea market and it appeared to be 1/24 to me (somehow I'm under the impression that it will be 1/24). I was almost tempted in picking one up and repainting the trailer just for this long awaited toy, but I wasn't sure of the scale. I talked the vendor in saving it for me but I'm pissed at myself because it will probably be gone next week...
  23. I remember watching the show but don't remember a lick of the story-line or what exactly it was about. The toys are what I really remember. They were pretty good for their time and were the first I can remember that had the gimmick of an action figure that could go into a mech type suit (i know they're called e-frames). I especially liked the transforming JT Marsh e-frame. These are the last toys I bought with my parent's money (miss them weekly allowances ) which "cool factor" I ranked up there with TFs, GI Joe, MASK, and Starcom. Took a break from toys after these, actually thought I had outgrown toys and thought I needed the cash for high school stuff... BUT seeing these toys still displayed in my old room when I came home from overseas-duty actually helped in reviving my love for toys and also brought back some RT/Macross nostalgia.
  24. Now I can't wait for HLJ to send me mine! The plastic version looks good....will definitely get the Hasbro version for my nephew and myself to play with (while the Takara one will be displayed MIB) .
