1. That is simply awesome. Amazing job, as always. I suspect you're going to sell quite a few of these kits.
2. Best places to start (from using the search button): http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...=paper+valkyrie http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...=paper+valkyrie Several PDf files for various paper models used to be available on the iMacross servers, but they seem to never be online anymore.
3. Very nicely done! Those colors are a great match.
4. Witchblade

Global

Yeah, he's just in a box... 378611 Just like Frank! But hopefully Global re-emerges from his box looking better than I imagine Frank would.
5. I'd forgotten about those. Didn't the -1J have an all red camo scheme? Hm. Now I need to find that so I can recreate it on a 1/55, or maybe a Hasegawa kit.
6. Slightly offtopic, but I followed the link in your .sig to your other customs. Fanatastic job on all them!
7. I meant to post in the earlier thread that I bet the camo would sell like crazy in Japan. After seeing it in all modes now I'm even more certain of it. I didn't pick up on the JASDF connection. Good call on that one, everybody. It looks great in fighter mode. I still think it's silly as a battroid. But if it's a limited edition I imagine it will go quickly. I like the stealth mor everytime I see it. Reminds me of the MOSPEADA Shadow Fighter - but cooler. Who's going to be the first to customize an armor set for one of these?
8. To be fair, after seeing the larger pics that Graham put on the site I'm a little less hostile to the camo. I still don't like it, mind you, but I've supressed my initial revulsion to the point that I want to see what it looks like in fighter mode from several different angles. And both new valks photographed under different lighting. I suppose we'll see magazine shots soon enough, though. BUT - if a design will only look good in fighter mode it's much cheaper just to build a fighter model and paint it yourself. For the cost of a transformable toy it better look pretty snazzy in all 3 modes and some battroid poses!
9. The Stealth isn't bad. I was hoping for something more interesting, but it's about what I expected they'd actually do. I'm witholding a final opening until I see what it looks like in the other modes. The "low vis" is awful. Whoever is responsible for that should be fired. Even worse, it will drive up prices of the "real" low vis. Wasn't that based on a fan custom? Why couldn't they have reproduced one of the excellent camo valks already out there? Now that VF-0S is a thing of beauty!
10. Since you got the Gamecube I'd recommend you try out Mario Kart Double Dash, both of the Super Monkeyball games, and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I think all of the co-op games are what really made that system worth owning. (But ROTK, at least, is available for XBox and PS2, as well).
11. If more people were capable of taking photographs like that we might post more finished pics. Excellent job!
12. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but I found this really funny, considering the topic of many of the replies in this thread. I think you mean "macross zero footage + The Rolling Stones' classic Paint It Black, which has been called by critics 'one of the most influential tracks of the 20th century' and was reportedly one of the most popular songs with soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War, and used in almost every movie, television show, afterschool special, or videogame about that war for the following 40 years." I never heard of "Tour of Duty", even though I was around 13 then. I had to look it up on IMDB. I guess if it was on for 3 seasons, though, it must have been somewhat popular. But I think the song reached its peak of popularity 20 years before then. That does make me think, though- do all of the teenagers and college students making AMVs even know what Top Gun was, or do they just know "Danger Zone" is "the jet fighter song"?
13. A little more work on the legs tonight. I also discovered I made my first mistake. I left the central beam in the pelis pieces to make sure it would fit after they dried together. Unfortunately it looks like a bit of glue leaked out while it was drying, and the beam is now irremovable- and sticking out a few millimeters too far on one side. When I finish with both legs I'm going to have to cut the end off and use a scrap piece to reinforce it before I finally mount them.
14. Okay, I had a few free minutes tonight, so I put the first few pieces together.
15. Now THAT I've got to see! I did a little more work yesterday, but just the first of the circular pieces took as much time as all the rest up to this point. I'm going to be busy with research and stuff for the new job the next day or so, so the next update might be on hold for awhile. Here's the pic that was included in the "phantom post" from Saturday of the first few pieces:
16. Hayami Sho (Max) - back row, 5th from right (white shirt)
17. I think that's Ogai Youko, the seiyuu for Yotchan (the little kid from Minmay's uncle's restaurant). 320328 Yep.
18. Hm, odd. I had made a post updating on my progress so far, but apparently I never actually posted it... :/ To summarize I've glued together all the individual pieces that make up the hips and pelvis. All the pieces fit together beautifully, but I'm waiting until later to glue things in place. The biggets discovery so far has been that the tweezers are far more useful as clamps than the paper clips - lots of hard to reach tabs. The picture of the first few pieces will wait until the next update. Now let's hope I post this one correctly.
19. Thanks, everyone, for the advice. Now I just hope I can get settled in soon enough to have some money available to order a Roy. If not I guess I can always just wait for the 5th reissue...
20. Well, without turning this into an RT vs Macross thread, let me just say briefly that I think a lot of people find Macross to be better because it's not nearly as kiddified. I would have cringed throughout showing my girlfriend Robotech because of all the over-narration, campy/cramped dialogue, and other cheeziness. Whereas, showing her Macross, there was no cringing at all except for when the artwork was terrible (Darn you Animefriend!) Danth, I'd be willing to lend you my Animeigos if you wanted to take a look. Let me know. H 319584 Just to chime in here with my $0.02, I would strongly recommend watching the entire series of Robotech and not just stopping with the Macross-derived episodes. Comparing that to the original is useless. The redeeming quality of Robotech is the complete story built out of the 3 series. Series for series it falls way short, but as a whole it was amazingly ambitious. It's certainly a childrens show, but I can't knock it. I was watching bastardized anime on American TV since I was a toddler, and it was the first show that brought to my attention that it was based off of original shows from Japan. Because of that I became interested enough to learn the language, make lots of friends from the other side of the Pacific and be introduced to an amazing culture, and eventually see so many wonderful non-bastardized anime shows. I did get the first few of the Remastered DVDs last year, mostly for nostalgia and they were on sale at Best Buy, but really enjoyed them. Still not as good as "real" Macross, but I'm glad I bought them. I'll probably try to get the whole series if they keep printing them, but there's certainly no need to rush out and buy them. Now, to get back on topic, I've been wanting to get my first 1/48 as well, and have been holding out for a reissue of Roy. Now that it looks like that is going to happen I'm waiting to get moved and place an order with one of our friendly Macross World merchants. I've noticed some apparent dissatisfaction with Roy compared to some of the other valks. Is this just a character preference, or is there a quality issue with this particular model? Anything else us first time buyers should aware of, or does it just boil down to preferences for a character or a particular color scheme? And I see I misinterpreted Danth's post. You've seen RT but not SDFM or DYRL. That cannot be allowed! Personally I prefer the TV series, but all the sequels are obviously based on DYRL. Since you've sort of seen the tv show I'd start with DYRL. Decent fan subs are easily found on the internet. But if someone can eaasily let you borrow the subtitled series DVDs do not pass that chance up.
21. Okay, for something to do post-grad school and pre-job I decided to start building again, beginning with the legendary paper monster. I also decided to document the entire process in a thread so anyone trying this in the future can learn from the mistakes I'll invariably make, and maybe benefit from advice from more experienced hands. Tools & materials: Instructions and sheets I downloaded this from Berttt. I suggest these be added to the site's download section, if possible, since they seem to be requested pretty regularly. My only complaint with the sheets is they're all JPEG images, and the effects of compression are evident. The Monster is amazingly detailed, and more of it could have been saved in a PDF. But it still looks great, overall. Paper I'm going to use 90 lbs card stock. I got 250 sheets for $9 at my local OfficeMax. I was worried it would be too heavy, but after handling it I think even 110 lbs would have been okay. We'll wait and see what happens when I actually begin folding. Glue Krazyglue would probably be best, but I'm going to play it safe and use regular ol' Elmers. It'll give me plenty of time to make adjustments, and it was only $0.20 for a bottle. Hobby knife I bought a new one with several different blades for $3. Tweezers I'm not sure if I'll need these, but I had a pair lying around. Paper clips Just leftovers from my desk. I have a few different sizes, and plan to use them as clamps The sheets were printed on an HP Laserjet 4600 color printer. When printing photographs on normal paper using the glossy finish option makes a tremendous difference. I tried it both ways on Sheet A and saw no difference whatsoever. All the other sheets then were printed plain. The only option specified was that the paper was card stock. Since I haven't done this since I was a kid I realized that I might want to practice different techniques like scoring tabs and such before I started. So I printed out a test sheet on my HP Deskjet 970. A comparison with the laser printed sheet shows some interesting things. First off the color from the inkjet is much more even abd a definite green. The laser jet made a brownish green with noticeably browner areas on the parts. It's actually a nice 'weathered' effect, but I think I would have preferred the more uniform green. However, the smaller lettering, especially the white, is nearly lost in the inkjet copy. Also the thin black lines are more defined on the lasered sheet. If you have several different printers available you might want to test a sheet on all of them and see which you prefer. For now I'm going to stick with the rusted look of the Laserjet. Okay, that's all for now. Hopefully I'll have time this weekend to actually start assembling this beast.
22. Thanks! I think I'm going to try this one out, if I find the time to print it before I move out of my current office. The last time I made a paper model was a samurai castle out of Dragon magazine. I don't even want to think about how long ago that must have been.
23. Excellent news. But now I think that poor Ryuji is going to be pretty busy for awhile!
24. Really? Well there's one I didn't know. Is there some scale line art to show the size differences between the 2? Definitely seeing the Zentradi and Battroid together at about equal height and the Max with uniform scene put that in my head as fact. 318652 It's been awhile since I've actually seen the scene (at least a year) but I seem to remember that the uniform was quite baggy on Max's Valk, even accounting for typical anime magic. The collar was way high, the hat obscured almost the whole head- and that's with the VF-1A head laser sticking up. He was also able to convert to Gerwalk while still wearing the jacket. Also was there a shifitng of sizes between the tv series and the movie? Again going on memory, but the full-sized males and females looked about equal when they were living amongst each other in the final episodes. In DYRL, however, I thought the Meltrons seemed a good deal smaller, and much less "alien" looking, reinforcing the idea they were a separate "race". (Or more than likley typical sci-fi chauvenism. Ever noticed how the Martian princess is always a total babe in a bikini ruling an army of jaundiced Neanderthals with antennae? But I digress... )
25. Just a bump since people were looking for this thread. Unfortunately it appears the link to the plans is now dead.
