  1. I've purchased a few Macross items from them at all of their grading levels....basically, a B grade is going to be in a "display" condition.....not played with or most likely never even transformed....they definitely cherry pick what they buy....

Hm ok. So you've never gotten anything B grade that you were terribly disappointed with, I take it? And there shouldn't be anything missing from the box, right?

    Thanks for insight, jvm!

  2. so when arcadia says new tool per year, the 0A and 0S will count right?

Hm, good question. From what I've read here, I assumed the VF-0D was the new tooling release for this year. (Last year's was the YF-19, right?) So the rest of the releases this year will be considered re-releases (including the VF-0S and VF-0A even tho they'll get the same improvements that the 0D got). Is that right?

  3. at the same time, i think it's also ridiculous for people to ask for things below market value expecting a deal. i mean: would you expect someone to sell you a vt-1 for 150 just because it was that price at one time? that's just unrealistic. i don't blame scalpers as much as i blame bandai limiting the pre-orders suppy to 5 sec windows. so it's screw bandai

    QFT!

If Bandai (and Yamato/Arcadia) made enough to fill demand, there wouldn't be room for scalpers to make profit. But the funny thing is scalpers partly create the lack of supply (or certainly doesn't help it) by doing what they do. Luckily, we have this great community with people like you that largely levels the situation somewhat by bringing the items back to the fans.

  4. Supply and demand, folks.... But yeah, I agree that it's unfortunate that this hobby is so dictated by secondary market prices for a majority of the stuff to the point where if you don't get a popular item within 1-2 months of release (if not sooner), you'll be looking at a substantial price hike. But you can't really blame people for taking advantage of the situation... It happens with any market of popular items.

    That said, f@#% scalpers!!!

  5. Oh man, that one's awesome, jvm. :o It's a good thing I don't know where you live, haha! Thanks for all the info btw - much appreciated

Found this poster which is just amazing especially since it's also signed... but $1200!?!:(

Anyone win the lottery recently and wanna pick this up for me?

  6. Macross collecting is more than just about the "valks".....plenty of good deals are still occasionally to be had on ebay if you collect more than just Macross toys....

Yes, very true! I apologize if my example was overtly narrow in generalizing about eBay, but since this is the "Toy" section of the forum, I skewed the post toward that example.

Plus, I do mostly collect toys since that's more my jam ;)

  7. Come to think of it -- I don't think a single piece of my current Macross collection has come from eBay, despite the amount of time I've spent on that site. I think I've bought nearly everything from Mandarake, HLJ, Nippon-Yasan, or other MWF members. I had a couple of eBay valks that I have since sold, but nothing I currently own. I've gotten pretty good deals on other toys off of eBay -- Masterpiece Transformers, vintage Gakken Mospeada toys, etc. but not much Macross-wise.

When it comes to Macross collectibles, I equate eBay to a tourist trap where visitors pay 3 bucks for a keychain or fridge magnet when they could find the exact same item for 50 cents if they simply go out a little farther and ask a native where to buy.

It's a good thing I knew about MacrossWorld before I decided to start collecting cuz I don't think I would've been able to afford more than 2 valks total if I had to buy from eBay. I notice some of the sellers use some sketchy sales tactics too.... Like one seller post double listings for the valk they're selling, the first one at an extremely high price followed immediately by one that's a decent amount lower (but still ridiculous) so that the second one seems like a good deal by comparison to newbs or those unfamiliar to the hobby.
