  1. agree, its not like the old hi metal was bad but that new fighter is just....nice. the panel lines are deeper, scuplting is way more sharp.

Well, it was posted that Kawamori personally helped rework the design... Maybe Bandai is doing what Arcadia did with the VF-0's and used the same previous engineering but with an updated sculpt.

Edit: Haha, Vifam7 beat me to it.

  2. That's the first I've seen of the fighter mode. Can anyone tell if it looks any different to the original releases?

Hard to tell from that angle. Side profile would say. Still looks like the same though.

It's pretty much impossible to get an accurate comparison from a photoshopped marketing photo, but looking at it next to this pic of the original, it looks like the fighter mode looks sleeker with a longer nose even (photo of original Hi-Metal from marstoybox blog - http://marstoybox.blog118.fc2.com/blog-entry-119.html). Obviously, the angle of the photo isn't quite the same and the lighting is completely different, so we'll probably not find out for sure until someone gets their hands on the new release.

What's safe to say is that the old Hi-Metal VF-1's won't be compatible with the new GBP armor. The old one's missing that slot right behind the intake, plus I'm guessing the new release will have the foldable leg fins (like Yamcadia's) to allow for the skinnier leg armors.

  3. It's just the prototype.

Yeah... I figured. :( One can dream still.

Speaking of variants tho (and going back on topic), it would be cool if Bandai did release the urban camo version of the GBP for the Hi-Metal R line.

oh  ... back to arcadia

Yeah, might be another decade for that, haha!

  4. there's a different colored gbp armor for the vf-1j mass production. interesting.... they have variants.

Oh, hell yes!!! I've wanted a VF-1J mass prod type ever since I saw Yamato's. But since Yamy's basically impossible to get now, I'm so buying this if they release it!

Hmm... looking at the scan again tho, that just might be the color of the prototype plastic and not a mass prod VF-1J. :( I hope I'm wrong tho.

  5. Its certainly a very beautiful looking Valkyrie in fighter mode! Probably the best overall actually! but personally I feel its let down by its other modes.. Not at the fault of the toy itself, but more so what it was modeled from in the anime which in some ways seemed like a heavily compromised design resulting in strange looking alternate modes. Like it was only ever intended to be seen in fighter mode and the other modes designs came after once needed. I have always felt that the more you transform it, the worse it gets.

The fighter mode is growing on me. But not 500-800 bucks worth. It's the worst batroid mode ever devised though.

After Arcadia announced the VF-1 reissues you could grab a few for less than 400 on Man, but those days are gone as the panic prices are almost back.

If Arcadia makes a new one I'd pick it up just for fighter.

As a newb to the scene also, I'm unfamiliar with the background of the VF-4.... The battroid mode never even appeared in the anime, right? It only showed up in the VF-X video game? If so, I can understand how the alt modes could've been somewhat of an afterthought.

As far as the pricing goes, I have to echo Gakken85's sentiments here... As lovely as the fighter mode is, it's not the current asking price lovely! If you're patient and this isn't a must-have for you, I say just wait for Arcadia to drop the re-release... whenever that'll be :p

  6. It's sure been slow in announcement news lately.... Kinda surprised there hasn't been a tease for the new mold yet considering that the VF-0D was announced last Jan/Feb, no? Time again to speculate/wish what the next new Arcadia release will be?

My vote's for protagonist valks like the SV-51 and YF-21, but if Arcadia's playing it safe then that'd be unlikely <_<

  7. I must be going blind in my semi-old age. Thanks Offswitch, and Jenius, of course.

Ok, so the improvement (singular) that I saw was actually on a different blog: http://robotjapan.proboards.com/thread/16410/bandai-dx-damashii-koenig-monster?page=5

However, they point out that the renewal will have screws in lieu of pins in the arm joints, which will hopefully be more durable. Sorry for misleading; my memory leaves much to be desired, and I was jumping about perusing various sites for info on this thing yesterday. My excitement got the best of me when posting.

Nice find of the mention of the improvement to the arm joints, M'kyuun.

Aside from that, were there any other issues with the original Konig Monster? Or any improvements that Bandai should've done? I just feel like Bandai really could've taken the opportunity to spruce up a 5 year old mold... other than to just change the color & tampos and fix a few screws.

I still wanna get one tho.

Usually the web exclusives are reserved for either obscure paint schemes or side characters that no one cares about. That plus the fact that they are made to order (i.e. everybody in Japan can order as much as they want) usually means that they are fairly easy available after release.

There are some exceptions like the Super and Armor Parts. In that case everyone who bought a regular release wants the add-on sets.

The marked for regular releases the market is completely overheated due to a history of Bandais inability to provide enough stock (or brilliance to provide just enough to keep us hooked).

Thanks for the clarification, Scyla. That's kinda why I was confused about the Isamu 29 being a web exclusive (he's a major character)... while the YF-29b Percival (an obscure protagonist) wasn't.

But I hear ya on the overheated market for the regular Bandai releases tho.... Seems quite silly since Bandai could make a pretty penny if they wanted to (the upcoming VF-19 Advance being a perfect example).

  8. Yeah usually all the retailers order a few more than they had preorders so there is a high possibility that some will be available after release. The YF-29 Isamu Custom is still around.

    Cool, thanks, Scyla

I didn't know the Isamu 29 was a web exclusive. (Just got into collecting a few months ago.) That's weird to think that an "exclusive" item can actually be easier to get than a regular release where getting a pre-order is like winning a lottery.

  9. I thought it was 4/30.

Thanks, Jenius. That's about right, since these were up for preorder thru Nov/Dec. Having not seen or heard anything for at least two months, I was hoping it wasn't going to devolve into vaporware.

I did some more snooping around the web and discovered the Suprememecha blog. Cool stuff on there...anime models, toys, and such. As it happens, they have a 4/2015 release date for the Monster as well, so that's a good indicator. I'm really starting to anticipate this thing. The blog also points out a few things Bandai fixed from the first release, so that makes me happy, too. Improvements FTW.

Jenius got it. It says right there on the order page on NY "Estimated Release Date 2015-04-30"

    https://www.nippon-yasan.com/macross/9753-macross-f-dx-chogokin-koenig-monster-wings-of-valkyrie-limited-edition.html

Speaking of this web exclusive... Is it still possible to order one if you missed the pre-order? I could've swore I read that you can still get one once the item releases. Is that usually the case for these Tamashii web exclusives?

  10. Something else too: if it's painted, that explains why this particular example looks more matte in appearance than Brera's 27 or the previous Beta version - Bandai used a matte green paint. Wonder if that's how these new Betas will be made - Bandai will take their unsold stock of Gammas and paint them. ;)

Looking at the official marketing images, it certainly looks less glossy there too. I always thought Brera's 27 was a bit too glossy, so this is good! (personal pref of course)

    1000096698_2.jpgitem_0000010367_07.jpg

Man, I sure hope they don't just repaint old stock, haha!

  11. I still have not created an order for this, and I am usually a day 1 pre-order guy. I have a dilemma.. I am trying to figure out if I really want 3 of these. I was thinking a squad of 3 for this release, they could look really bad ass on display. I will keep mulling over it I guess.

Man, I wish I could get 3 of these! Only pre-ordered 1.... but guess I should consider myself lucky that I can even afford that (considering these are toys) ^_^

You gotta get 3 now, Loop!!!... Just so I can live vicariously through you

  12. Does the original Zero have the same issue with the gun blocking the tail hook? From what I can see in this pic the gun pod mounts roughly half an inch further forward which from my calculations going by the mounting point on the Zero-D would provide enough clearance for the hook!

I kinda had a feeling this was the case but wasn't sure as not ever owning an original Zero..

Good catch there, Spanner! I don't own any of the original zeros either, but from what Loop said, it sounds like that would be one of the few changes that's actually worse in the new 0D compared to the old zeros.

oh saw this late, nice comparison pics

Thanks, David! Glad to contribute... I can't wait to get my hands on the new 0S and 0A :)
