  1. Hirano is a vet. Check out some of his other stuff like Dangaioh. The great Kawamori did the mecha design!
  2. Tbh, MZ23 isn't terrific lol. Watch some ghibli magic if you haven't yet. Mononoke Hime or Howl's Moving Castle may be a good place to ease into it.
  3. That was pt 2; the red-headed stepchild of the trilogy. The tone is much more serious. Pt 3 is a return to 90s anime with kitazume art.
  4. I liked Megazone 23 pt 3!! I endorse it, and it has a great soundtrack. Also had the best garland...
  5. Yeah, I believe that one sold for around 7K. The cel was close to identical. I bet it's the same buyer who bought it (maybe begrudgingly) since this one had the background. The bg really does complete it though.
  6. Woah you actually had the magazine! I have a feeling you could open up a dedicated macross museum all by yourself.
  7. Pronunciation double-take ! From wikipedia, the definitive source of truth.
  8. Based on the other image provided, it looks like it's "マイ アニメ" (My Anime) magazine - 05/May issue... assuming 1983. Illustrated by Hirano and his wife Kakinouchi. Both key animators to macross!
  9. That looks terrific. It makes all the difference. Oh, you may want to use a mylar bag to protect the cel from the background (if you haven't already)
  10. It's wedding season https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k471789638
  11. Another free option is Gimp: https://www.gimp.org/. It's not the most intuitive app, but has most of the Photoshop features.
  12. That would be fun to watch... for a piece I wouldn't want I have a feeling a lot of fans are still sentimental for the hikaru+minmay connection. So I think you were right about the uniqueness of the wedding shot
  13. That's really cool to see that level of bidding activity. Still a lot of die-hards out there, which is awesome! Speaking of weddings and premium pricing... remember this? https://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/auction/item/itemInfoEn.html?index=266361 Spectacular piece.
  14. If anyone is interested, here is a wide screen version. It surprised me when they integrated flashback at the end. That was a pleasant surprise.
  15. I'm a big mikimoto fan. I've met him a few times, and I don't think he'd mind a simple request, especially since it's a (sort of) commissioned sketch. I, personally, would not ask him to revert to a certain style since he's moved on, but IMO, a simple, "hey, I loved this drawing, could you draw something similar to this?" would be okay. BTW, the shared mumei/kabaneri sketch is fantastic. Would be ecstatic if he were to produce something like that. If anyone gets one, please share!
  16. Looks like he popped up in Raleigh a few years back. I prefer his DYRL/mid-80s art style. He once said his art has to evolve, good or bad.
  17. Sylvie's expression in the hanken is much different than the Mikimoto version. Maybe, for promotional materials, the marketing team preferred to depict Sylvie closer to her actual persona - a strong, resolute female officer. And maybe the illustrator was directed to Mikimoto's version as a point of reference? Theories!
  18. If it's in that poster, then it's appears legit. Don't think anyone would go to lengths recreating that shot. 2 reasons why it appears to be a production cel: 1) It has a background and 2) looks like all the other shots are from the TV episodes. At this point, only question the mikimoto reference. Feels more like Hirano or someone else on the key animation team. Notice the Milia side profile shot directy above. That was drawn by another animator.
  19. Looks odd to me as well. It doesn't resemble mikimoto's art style, and during that time, it was pretty pronounced.
  20. Here's my 2 cents on your thread (and sales in general) since there appears to be some need of validation. If I'm a frequent seller, as you are w 500+ transactions, my brand and reputation is paramount. The best sellers accept returns, no questions asked. If they want a partial refund, refuse. Your policy should have been advertised as-is/MISB and what you had is what they get. Most buyers expect this on auction sites. If they weren't satisfied, as a reputable seller, you should accept a return or give them the option of keeping it as-is. If it's the latter, they should pay for the return shipping. If the item was broken on opening the package, you, as a buyer, should now contact your seller and request the same level of service. Hopefully, they will be as reputable as you. If they aren't, then it's a future loss for them.
  21. Just got mine. Ouch, this month is going to hurt. Still some left here if you're still looking: https://www.bluefinbrands.com/rx-93-ngundam-mobile-suit-gundam-char-s-counterattack-bandai-metal-structure-bas57540.html?fbclid=IwAR0eUiUj3LzmvoWRH-JEDdYipcxEn528Z6y5BH_XzS_MmUbDf_U5UoxaSIQ
