  1. OK so I went ahead and got the broken shoulder socket piece finally designed. Again it was a ~75% solution right off the bat, and then the last 25% was refining and getting the clearances...this part unfortunately takes a majority of the time and LOTS of print attempts (plus my OCD wanting to get it perfect doesn't help either). But, that is the cool thing about 3D printers though: you can iterate pretty quickly. I printed all the test pieces with the low quality settings (thicker layer height and very low infill density) to reduce the print time. My Garland's shoulder crumbled right in the socket piece that clamps onto the wheel's shoulder joint. So my printed shoulder joint version just extends the socket depth back out to "grab" the shoulder peg. Caution: I did break some of the pegs in the shoulder wings (?) to get to the shoulder socket unfortunately (I did manage to save one major peg though). The two outer halves are glued together from the factory. I recommend using a razor blade to separate and avoid cutting or breaking the pegs; It also doesn't help that the original plastic is so ridiculously brittle. Once I'm satisfied with the final joint assembly, I will probably glue the shoulder wing back together. Next step is to increase the print quality and try a few different materials (I used PLA on the test pieces; may try ABS and/or PETG to see which works/prints best)
  2. Not sure if this thread is closed or not. Due to the "human malware" going around and being quarantined in home, I had some time to pull out my Yamato Garlands and try to fix them. I decided to go ahead and design my own swing arm to replace the diecast ones with the broken pin (I just had a hard time swallowing the $20 one on shapeways). Busted out the ol' micrometer, took some measurements, fired up TinkerCAD, and surprisingly I was able to get to a ~75% solution on the first 3d model (and I'm no CAD specialist by any means). I then went through several further small iterations until I came out with one that made all the clearances. There is still some room for sanding to fit the curvature of the rest of the Garland body, but this final version should fit the bill right off the printer. Now, on to the disintegrating shoulders (*sigh*)....
  3. Just watched wotafa's review of Arcadia's Garland (linked in previous post). Bike and transformation look great, but I was surprised (read: disappointed) to see that the Shogo figure cant fit in the Garland cockpit, and that a special cut down bust insert is used if you want to represent Shogo in slave mode. I kinda get it...in slave mode u dont see Shogo anyway, but 1) I will know he's not in there (completely) and 2) I know its already possible/been done in the Yamato version and even the Freeing E=X Garland. This is a borderline deal breaker for me, and I definitely cant call the figure "perfect change" in my mind now. I was ready to go all in on this pt 1 Garland and a Hargun & transport (when it comes out), but now I gotta re-think if I want to invest that kind of money, knowing there's something "not complete".
  4. I think it is the Hargun (with the truck) that will be the figure that depends on the success of their pt 1&2 garlands. I sooo want a hargun and truck; but not sure if I will cough up the cash for the garland lineup....again.
  5. Got my E=X today. Here's my raw unboxing footage (until the pro youtuber reviewers make better ones). Disclaimer: I never post videos, but I couldn't find any others so I made my own
  6. E=X: HLJ just sent my shipping notice and invoice for the Freeing E=X Garland. Looks like this thing is really going to happen here shortly. Did not like the part III anime, but liked the bike design (and the music) though. Pt III just did not seem like the worthy successor to my first and most favorite animes of MZ23 pts I & II that I saw back in the 80s. Arcadia: I have for so long wanted a hargun to complement my Yamato Garlands. Definite buy for me when it comes out (especially with the transport truck). I just don't know if I can trust Arcadia after watching my pt 1, and pt 2 Yamato Garlands disintegrate right before my eyes; And what a cruel trick/great business move in changing the scaling to invalidate my old Garlands, lure me in with the promise of Harguns, but only on the condition of success of (yet another) pt. 1 Garland. Well played Arcadia.
  7. network19 posted the link.... but just wanted to pay my respects to Noboru Ishiguro-san,from out in the deserts of afghanistan. Without his direction I would be lost..Yamato, Macross, Orgus, and the Desert tiger's real inspiration, Megazone 23. Rest in Peace.
  8. Agreed on needing a better actress and costume. However, that actress had absolutely ZERO arse (maybe thats why they used pants instead of shorts) and obviously fake boobs (costume bustier pushes the implants almost to her collar bone). WW is supposed to be Amazon...Exotic beauty with a muscular and curvy physique. Not a skinny, abercrombie and fitch looking girl. Choosing the right actress (looks and acting) is EVERYTHING! Fail at step 1.
  9. Garland motorcycle prototype. Hands down choice since '85. rediculous land speeds, works in space, chicks dig it.
  10. From what I can tell from all SHE's early development pics (from 2007) is that is WILL be the 4 fighters that combine together. In the one below you can see when they were making the cockpit portion of Pai Thunder's fighter (legs) and where it will join to Roll Kran's fighter (body).
  11. For us Dangaioh fans!! Looks like Studio HalfEye has finished their prototype of the PERFECT CHANGE DANGAIOH! Only took about 2 years, but looks like it is worth the wait (I just hope its worth the $400 they usually charge for their figures...) CROSS FIGHT DANGAIOH!!!!
  12. "The emperor has no clothes on." I was so excited to read that just about ALL my favs in the business were in on this anime (the folks that brought me Megazone, Macross, Full Metal Panic....etc.) ....until I saw that clip and went to the site. WHAT A LETDOWN! There was absolutely no "wow factor" there at all. The Charater/ship designs, the CG, and the animation all look sub standard. I expected much much more from this veteran lineup. The only thing exciting about that clip was that there was a youtube related video for "Michiko to Hatchin" (Cowboy Bebop/ Samurai Champloo folks) which also starts in October and looks HOT!!. http://www.michikotohatchin.com/story/trailer02/index.html
  13. I really liked the first movie but thought this one sucked. Rented it and not even considering wasting a DVDR to burn it. They overdid it IMHO. It was so cliche'. storyline had no depth. It seemed to just take bits of several movies and slap 'em together (and not very well at all). You could pretty much figure out everything that was going to happen....in every scene. There also was no "ooooh cool!" factor in any of the action sequences like the first movie, I thought. What finally killed it for me was the CG. It was "upgraded" from cell shaded (hand drawn look) to gradient shaded CG (ala final fanatasy CG) for the characters. In my mind that means they stopped trying to make it look like anime and make it look more real. And for me, that is bad juju... just my $.02
  14. second for Dangioh....although Studio HalfEye is in progress of making a perfect change Dangaioh. It would be great though if yamato stole the engineering (again) and made one larger than 4" and less than $500. So now I'm thinking/wishing BD's Hargun from Megazone 1 .
  15. I think thats Shinji, Shogo's buddy the test pilot, who introduced Shogo to the Garland. Can't quite tell because in the movie the characters were actually STANDING UP!!! I just don't get it. How can you make an extremely complex fully transforming robot, but have to make TWO WHOLE SEPARATE human figures for sitting or standing? What is so hard about a ball and socket joint???? Sigh, I'm gonna hafta get it anyways because I'm a Megazone Nut. I do this in hopes that one day there will be a shiny blue Hargun, B.D., and 2 EVE figures (one sitting and one standing I guess).
  16. Sorry if this is old news, didn't read the entire thread. Looks lke Japan is releasing a COMBO DVD BOX of Gunbuster 1&2 (Gunbuster vs DieBuster -- Theater Edition) on 26 Jan 2007. I'll have to get some better information. Looks like they did a "movie edition" jobbie where they merge all the eps into 95 minutes. Also looks like they got 5.1 surround on both movies. Not sure what the monochrome stuff is.... TRANSLATED WEB PAGE HERE
  17. Well kill yourself with laughing gas cuz thoseare all being done already... Valks... done BGC hardsuits... done Gunbuster... in production Garlands... done Dangaio... in production 415916[/snapback] I know. That was my whole point ("AND DANGAIO"). My wish list was in the paragraph above that. I would like Yamato to pick up Dangaio from SHE (like Bandai picked up Gunbuster). I love SHE, but I have no intention of paying $500 for a 4 inch Dangaio. Yamato just jacks the engineering and designs from all the garage kit makers anyway....
  18. SHE indeed makes dreams come true. They are always the FIRST to engineer, and bring to the fingertips, all those BOTs we luv so much. My favorite Mech of all time is the original Dangaio. Guess who's just recently started the development of one? http://halfeye.m78.com/himiken/t-ken/t-ken.html
  19. Make that two votes for the original Dangaio (My fav bot). Also add in one Megazone Hargun bike complete with parts truck and crappy BD figure (to go along with Shogo) I'd like a super posable Detonator Orgun too. Valks, BGC Hard suits, Gunbuster, Garlands, and Dangaio.... I could die happy then.
  20. This is great! All the cool designs of the 80's OVAs are now finally being realized. Looks like great engineering on this one too. Valks, hardsuits, Garlands, Gunbuster....I'm gonna need a second job.
  21. Here's the parts I was talking about. Sorry for the quality...cell phone camera.
  22. Hi all. Got my Garland today (I'm stationed in Okinawa). Its like a whole chapter of my life is now complete. I couldn't help but break out my Megazone OST, put on the music, and be transported back to '85 as I opened the package. It is very sturdy in Bike and Slave mode. The magnets are a plus in that regard. Its the transformation however, where great care has to be taken. I would say the most vulnerable part is where the front tire is jointed to the "swing arm" that splits the tire to mount the wheels on the shoulders. the swing arm is die cast (I believe) but part that holds the whole tire and arm assembly is a tiny plastic joint. Really disappointed with the Shogo figure being stuck in "sit" mode. I had just got my Revoltech "Dante" figure and I can pose that thing in virtually every position imaginable. Then I look at poor Shogo and you can tell he was barely an afterthought. There is no mistaking the plastic for die cast, I'm afraid. It simply just looks like plastic. It would have to be painted with a flat coat of paint (and weathered, if you gotz them airbrush skillz). All in all, great looking figure. Tops off my Megazone collection nicely. Now all I need is a Hargun or a GR-2 hover Garland to stand next to this. Thats my $.02
  23. Depends on what you mean by strongest. Seed definitely has the "strongest" sountrack with several of the theme songs hitting the top of the J-pop charts. I however am partial to the live orchestra music in any gundam series (actually more so in OVA's than TV series). Gives it a real "In-the-movie-theater" dramatic feeling. I would have to say Char's Counter Attack had the best orchestral arrangements of all. Just my $.02
  24. Hi all. this is my 1st post here on Macross World (sorry in advance for the length), but I've been a regular reader since waaaay back. Back when Seiichi would sell anime art books and you had to send an email to get one (Still bitter at Graham for snatching up that Megazone Mechanical art book from me...grrrr) Megazone was the movie that got me into Anime in the late 80's and remains my fav. I was just about to drop ~$300 for the transforming GR-2 kit (Had the email already sent to Noel @ black aces) when I first heard of Yamato doing a garland back in '04. Thats how desparate I've been for any megazone toys. So needless to say I will be reinvesting that money into 3 or 4 yamato garlands. Its funny how for the last 10 years whenever i did an internet search for "garland toy" I would only get returns about "The Wizard of Oz". Now it seems everyone's on the Megazone bandwagon. Anyway, just wanted to add my $.02
