  1. Fastest way to shut down any robotech zealot, is to simply ask "well, if HG can use whatever they want, and release whatever they want, then why haven't they!" End of story.

Doesn't even faze em. They'll give you Sentinels as an example of HG using Macross designs. Tommy said it so only a lying Macross purist would say it wasn't true.

  2. Tommy sent me a pretty condescending email, and after reading it 15 times I was able to understand what he was saying (he can't give a direct answer even when he wants, apparently). He basically said my trailer could get confused for something official, and "don't overestimate the intelligence of some people on the internet." even though there was a disclaimer at the beginning and end of it.

Harmony Gold and their cult, always the false dilemma. If you're not underestimating their intelligence, you're overestimating it.

  3. It was weirdness like the bombing the Smurfs Unicef commercial. It was very inappropriate. The Robotech UN spot was an advertisement for the UN's website that equates the UN with peace and celebrates their 60th anniversary by comparing it to Robotech. That it features Robotech is more random than one of dayjoborchestra's Youtube videos. Maybe nobody else bid to have their property in the commercial. I don't know. It's so weird and awkward. It's not even really a commercial as far as it's effect on the viewer. It's like some kind of wang size demonstration for Tommy to flaunt that he can do anything with Robotech he wants no matter how weird, like they didn't expect anyone except Robotech fans to watch it.

  4. The main problems with Shadow Chronicles come from the writing and directing. They failed at producing a good low budget film. More money would result in more more money wasted. Longer running time would have resulted in more bad writing and directing. Look at what happened when they got more technology. In Sentinels, they moved to an all-synthesizer soundtrack and very limited retimed animation because they got Macintoshes. In Shadow Chronicles, they got 3D animation, and now the mecha animation and effects look amateurish. Even their attempt to save money by going to DR Movie (and then not releasing anything else) failed. They fix anything but themselves.

  5. Isn't it about time to do a remake? I mean not now but after the Earthquake recovery is well underway, they should re-air the series and then do a PGSM R with new people. This is something I would be completely against with an American show, but Toei could it and it would be great.

  6. Harmony Gold lies by omission, by implying, and using language that could be interpreted as a lie. That's why when you call them on it, they demand proof of direct statements to discredit you. A recent example, recent for Harmony Gold, was when Tommy told a woman at a convention, in a video on Youtube, that they could use Macross designs in merchandise, but her question was about animation and Tommy knew it. Of course the Robotech cult uses this as evidence that Harmony Gold can use Macross designs in new animation. MEMO denies the Japanese Supreme Court ruling ever happened.

Then Tommy went on to say that Carl's theory that The Sentinels (from Robotech Art 3), that it was intended to be repurposed for a show in Japan with the Macross characters taken out, was actually something that was planned and they were going to leave the Macross characters in, which makes no sense. As Carl said, Tatsunoko was hesitant to give screen time to the Macross characters and those scenes didn't follow the model sheets.

I'd link you to the video and quotes, but at the moment Robotech.com redirects to Google Translate. The site has never been this useful.

    Google cache has it:

  7. Smegalot says music has to be new and it has to be popular, and chrisk says people who want it are fanboy completists, all because Harmony Gold are involved. Is that what you guys think this thread is, a Harmony Gold hating bandwagon, an opposing cult to the one on robotech.com?

  8. Yeah but McKeever is employed by the franchise. I just noticed something on the rt.com site regarding the 25th Anniversary Soundtrack. Of course, it's kind of stupid to still refer to it by that name since it obviously didn't come out during the 25th Anniversary and, actually, doesn't have a release date in site. Now, Kevin posts that they found new tapes with NEVER BEFORE HEARD Robotech music which is why the soundtrack has been delayed. Can someone explain how these songs can be considered Robotech if they've never been heard, meaning they weren't used in the show? Afterall, they could just be composing new music which is delaying the release just so they have the marketing line "never before heard music."

There are still a handful of orchestral tracks missing, but not many. Some of the tracks were released previously in versions that were extracted from episodes. There's a another instrumental version of Will We Win I think that was in the show. In the episode where Rook meets her sister there's an instrumental that may be the Minmei version to The Way To Love. The vocal version is playing in the background when Jack Baker is taking his test. Most of the Sentinels/Movie soundtrack still hasn't been released. The French and Argentina soundtracks had songs that weren't in American releases. There are alternate mixes and extended mixes of the Robotech The Movie songs, Shining On Top Of A Star by Randall Rumage, and Sentinels music such as the Sentinels Main Title and the extended version of it that can be heard on Youtube by searching for MegazoneTwoThree. Instrumental versions of some of Minmei's and all of Yellow Dancer's songs still haven't been released. There are also demos for those songs. There may be unreleased material like prototype Main Titles (they chose Minucci's), unused Robotech and Robotech II music, and music that ended up in other Harmony Gold titles. They may be alternate versions of songs in the show that would be Robotech related.

If only shows like Masters of the Universe, M.A.S.K., Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Pole Position, or The Littles, just as examples, even got one CD.

  9. Ok, I've got a plan. We all disguise ourselves as hardcore robotech fans, follow in with whatever B.S. these guys sasy for about a year, and try to get hired at HG. As soon as one or more of us get in, we userp power and convice Agrahma (SP, do I even care!) to sell the company to Bandai Visual Also, we steal Tommy & Kevin's lunches, and hide them in their respective cubicles. It'd be hilarious!

Acting like you've had a lobotomy is a bit hard to sustain for that long but if they could pull it off they'd be my heroes.

  10. I hope you're right about them chrisk. It would be good for Robotech, and Macross, if people really were refusing to play Harmony Gold's game. Somehow though I think their cult will survive even if the company makes no money. They're obviously living off the LAM money or some kind of huge cash reserves so they can prop up Robotech in their spare time.

  11. I don't think Harmony Gold can market anything to Japan including Shadow Chronicles and this new animation because they don't understand how to adapt their product for Japan. It would cost more money than they would get back. They would have to give the Japanese market all their attention. The most they can do is sell a small amount of Toynami toys there to people who don't know any better.

  12. On the RT Twitter, Tommy Yune hosted clips from the new animation and doc videos at AODSF...Tomorrow they are going to replay the anime clip..

It might be a lot more accurate to call it by the Korean word for animation.

Conbats in the video are to me further evidence that this is not going to be Love Live Alive.

  13. And that in general is a funamental difference. Many/most Macross fans are "anime" fans. We watch other things when there is no Macross. Most Robotech fans tend not to give two shakes about anime in general, and I have no idea what they do, aside from reading bad robotech novels & comic books. Anime in general seems to confuse and scare them, so of course they're going to hover around robotech as the best thing since burnt toast.

How they can stll stomach that dialogue as adults though, that's a total mystery.

Nostalgia for most of them. For those who have been with it the whole time, they're used to the dialogue and ignore the flaws in it. Personally I've seen it so many times since age 11 the lines are like quotations. I can't marathon the show anymore though. It's too played out. I have either skim through the episode for what I'm looking for or get my Mospeada DVDs.

I still think the dialogue does sound more natural than other anime dubs. Compare to Shadow Chronicles, Ranma 1/2, Macross II, or even a Streamline title by the same people at Intersound. Sorry I can't give any modern examples because I never liked anime dubs outside of Harmony Gold's.

  14. They want it both ways. They want it to be the best American/Korean animation and at the same time the best Japanese animation. They think Robotech deserves these two contradicting honors as a compensation for it's failures. For a long time I haven't understood what Robotech fans think Robotech is. I think they put on Robotech in the living room and then go into the kitchen to cook and just listen to the audio because they hate everything else about it. Apparently a lot of people think when you like a show in that way it makes you a "fan".

  15. Shadow Chronicles makes the Invid into cowards. They're supposed to be fleeing the shadow of the Robotech Masters, not because they're scared of Haydonites or whatever, but because they don't want to be part of it. The Regis wants evolution. She even explains to Scott's group why they consider humans to be lesser evolved beings. They left because they believe they won't find the evolution they seek on Earth. The Regis realizes that the human form is tainted by the shadow of the Robotech Masters and humans and so they have to go elsewhere to evolve further.

Neutron S misslies are neutron missiles. They wipe out lifeforms, not create black holes. Why would they test the missiles at the same time they use them on Earth? Rick wouldn't fire missiles on Earth that do something unknown even if they had tested them. Shadow Chronicles doesn't stay consistent within it's own story.

I think the Invid are pretty much the Inbit with only the modifications necessary to agree with Robotech dialogue. The big change is why they came to Earth, to get protoculture. Why do they need protoculture? So they can evolve. They've been wandering out in space for 500,000 years or so.

Maybe you should add on more about the Regent to make the Robotech section more substantial. Even though most of it will be the fanfic that typically passes for Robotech canon, it's the best you can do with Harmony Gold running it.
