  1. Look at the picture carefully. The blue screen is clearly at an angle. And whoever made this image cropped the tops of the two photos to follow the angle of the text. But look at the photos themselves... they are clearly not at an angle, however their tops are cropped. Somebody made this picture. And a blue screen with text about a new Robotech series with a picture of some Japanese men in white lab coats and a second picture of the Tatsunoko building added on later really doesn't mean too much.

That's because it's a picture of Harmony Gold's presentation slide somebody posted in the old Macrossworld forum.

  2. I sold, last week on ebay, a Rick Hunter MPC. Yes, someone actually PAID $50 for me to send them an MPC through the mail. Just when I thought actually getting paid for the MPC was amazing, this week someone else would rather have episodes of Robotech than $100! Next week I'm thinking I'll put Rick Hunter's toejam up and see how it does.

  3. If they ever do make an episode 7, I hope there's no returning characters. A Macross Plus for Star Wars would work better than a sequel with fake representations of Luke, Leia, Han, Lando, Chewie, etc. The characters in the original trilogy, especially ANH, had an irreverent additude that is gone from the prequels. I don't want to see the old characters acting wooden.

  4. Hikaru doesn't appear on South Ataria island until episode 1. He talks like he hasn't seen Roy in a while. Max and Hayao may not be assigned to the Macross yet. Are they even out of basic training? They don't show up until episode 8. What happens in Macross Zero is kept secret for 5 decades, so none of these people know what happened. I don't see any reason why they would tell Claudia. I think that narrows it down to Gloval, ASS-1, and VF-1.

  5. Pure speculation follows: Maybe the VF-0 was the VF-X0 until they decided to manufacture it for actual combat. Then it was given the designation VF-0. The VF-0 is considered a little unstable but stable enough to go up against the SV-51s while they wait on the VF-1, making it in their opinion a non-experimental fighter. Maybe it's stable enough because it doesn't incorporate all the technology from the VF-X0. It's not a YF-0 because these aren't prototypes. They're the final VF-0s.

  6. The Toynami VF-1 is a Makes People Cry because Toynami is a new company and they don't understand the making of Japanese toys. They're trying to make American toys like Hasbro. Also, because it's a knockoff, Harmony Gold and Toynami have no cooperation from the owners and creators of Macross, even though they supposedly own the overseas rights. Buying the rights doesn't turn them into the original creators. Neither Studio Nue nor Big West can check the quality of the MPC, fit it in with their marketing plans, or ensure it's consistant with the series and the rest of the product line. Another thing is that Japanese toys tend to be high quality because the Japanese demand it.

  7. 1. How official is the Macross Compendium? I know we all treat it like the bible (hehe, until we disagree with it!). . . but I've always wondered where the actual source of this information is. . . and if any of it is just simply made up by Egan Loo because it sounds cool?

PROGRAM: Trial production model and testbed for advanced jet engines and Overtechnology designed for future variable fighters. Deployed for actual combat and functional testing when delivery of VF-1 Valkyrie variable fighter's thermonuclear reaction engines were delayed. Flown over the South Pacific Ocean island of Mayan during a secret program one to two years before Space War I.

My understanding of these two pages in Macross Compendium is that the VF-1 has already been designed at this point. It's prototypes were the VF-X and VF-X1. VF-0 is the bleeding edge technology still in testing. They're only using it in combat because the VF-1's thermonuclear reaction engines were delayed.

  9. Yep, in the books he chewed the leaves. FoL is apparently a hallucinogen. In the last Robotech Masters episode, Dana touches the terminals of a protoculture matrix full of spores and has a trip about the aliens and having a little sister. In the New Generation episode Sandstorms, Rand falls into some FoL spores and has a trip about a dragon that lasts the whole episode.

Robotech is about an intergalactic drug war.

  10. Not all DVD players play avi files. They're saying convert it to a VCD. There's certain programs that can do that but I'm not sure which ones because I've never successfully done it. It lets you convert the file and burn it to a cd-rom to make it into a VCD that you can play in your DVD player, that is if your DVD player plays VCDs. VCD I've heard is somewhere around VHS quality.

  11. I've been watching the Anime Sky Scraper (ASS) Macross 7 fansubs. I know they're crappy, but it's all I have. Just now I finished episode 14 and the out of sync problem has gotten so irritating I can't stand it anymore. Every once in a while, some episodes more than others, a character will speak and then after they're done speaking, it shows the characters mouth moving. Sometimes like on episode 14, it does it for almost the entire episode. Anyone else with the ASS fansubs have this problem? Is it just bad encoding? I assumed it was just bad encoding but it sounds like while the dialogue is out of sync, the music is still going on continuously in the background. It's like somebody did a really bad remix of the sound.

  12.

    I can't believe people liked Macross 7.

However, I only watched the 1st few episodes before getting really turned off.  Did it get better later?

And for the record, the original TV series is my fave.

Yes, it does get better, but you really didn't like it when Basara's VF-19 transformed and he shot the speaker pods into that Varuta while singing Tokugeki Love Heart? That was bad ass. Get the fansubs or bootlegs and watch more. I cheated myself out of Macross 7 for years for that same reason. We're not the first ones to do that. Everybody watches 3 episodes of Macross 7 and gives up on it.
