  1. Who did then? Atsushi Takeuchi? And damn, the tank at the end kicked ass. It was definitely the show-stopper for me.
  2. The "suitcase" guns in "Ghost in the Shell" were so cool. To me, the best designers are the ones that are able to balance complexity and elegance. Kawamori is pretty good at that.
  3. I think its silly because DYRL was made in 1984. They had no idea they were going to even make a Macross 7 many years later. The Planes look like regular old Valkyries from the series to me. There are minor differences like the Strike armor and Super Ostrich, etc. but essentially, they all look the same.
  4. The discs are prone to cracking at the center, in fact a lot of Animiego's DVDs are. My Crusher Joe discs have suffered the same fate. So you might want to limit yourself on how much you watch them, or buy the ADV versions for watching.
  5. That ED209 is no where close to being accurate to the film. What's up with those hard creases on the dome? The right gun pod is wrong, the list goes on...I mean, I guess this is the closest so far, but they still have a long way to go. When will we ever get a cool ED209?
  6. Wierd! I just saw the same thing and was just about to post it! Interesting video, I just wish I knew what they were saying.
  7. This is for the person who doesn't understand why there are people who hate remakes. My opinion is that remakes are pointless. Why make another version, Dawn of the Dead for example, when we already have a perfectly good Dawn of the Dead that is recognized as a classic film? A shot by shot remake like Psycho is useless because its exactly the same, and these retellings or "revisits", like some people call them, are also useless because they change so much of it, that the fans feel betrayed. Its a catch 22. Well people say, "Its different than the original! Quit comparing it to the original!" Then don't use the same damn title, silly! Call it something else and let it stand by itself. The producers bring on the comparisons themselves by using the same name. Clearly, they are only using the title to cash in on its name recognition. Plain and simple. They usually make it simpler, bland, and employ quick editing techniques for the mainstream audience to maximize profits from teenagers. And I think that sucks! If you want truly want to honor or pay tribute to Dawn of the Dead, make a film like Shaun of the Dead which was an instant classic. They made their own story while still incorporating many of the elements that made the original Dawn of the Dead great. I suppose there are exceptions to the rule. Cronenberg's remake of The Fly, for instance is extremely well done and far superior to the original. Same goes for Carpenter's The Thing. But mostly, I think remakes are crap. Now, in the case of War of the Worlds and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, those were originally books, so even the original films are not original properties or stories. So I really don't have a problem with remakes of those. However, they still have sort of a responsibility to the source material. They rarely get it right... Another thing, why is it okay to remake a movie, but no one rewrites books? I bet people would go ape poo if somebody had the balls to rewrite books! But ultimately, does anyone have an original thought anymore? Now the current trend is to remake Japanese horror films. Here's a tip: Quit it! And don't get me started on TV show adaptations... Just my opinion.
  8. They are releasing the Beta in their Masterpiece line. It will be called The Robotech Masterbeta.
  9. Easily, Luke vs Darth Vader in Cloud City. When you think about it, Luke is actually winning until Vader starts "cheating" and starts throwing things at him via the force. Luke's clothes are worn and tattered, face all bruised up, sweating, and his hand is chopped off. He even looks nervous in parts of the fight. He's in bad shape by then end of this fight. Oh, and he finds out who his dad is. All the other fights, primarily in the prequel trilogy, are quite lacking because they don't look like they are getting winded or tired. They are just going through endless choreographed moves for too long. Yes, I realize Anakin's legs are lopped off. But up until that point, neither he or Kenobi look tired at all. And considering the conditions they were fighting in, that's just ridiculous. And Kenobi declares he won because he has the higher ground? Lame-o! I say kick his ass and shove him into the lava! An awesome duel to check out is between Tim Roth and Liam Neeson in the film Rob Roy. Now that fight looked like a struggle!
  10. This is another problem I've had with the prequel trilogy. All this extra information that is from other sources and not the films. I shouldn't have to watch a bunch of cartoons or read any books to find out more about the story. I saw one of the cartoons where Mace Windu took out an entire clone army (looked like over a thousand troops) by himself!! Why couldn't he take out Palpatine? It should all be in the film, not all this extraneous stuff.
  11. Anakin in Episode 2. Luke kills a rancor, kicks ass all over the place and saves everyone at Jabba's palace, goes to Dagobah and pay his final respects to Yoda. Then, continues his ass kicking rampage on Endor fighting scout soldiers on speeder bikes, then turns himself in to the Empire and kicks Vader's ass at the end. I think Luke actually whined more in Empire Strikes Back, honestly.
  12. Wow, its geting bloody in this thread. About the movie this thread is about... I saw this movie and thought it was the best of the prequels, but not nearly as good as the originals. Why oh why did Lucas put all the silly slapstick droid antics in the beginning? It had no place in this movie. The rest was so serious. What's up with the voices for the enemy battle droids, anyway? They sounded cheesier than the already bad ones from Episodes 1 and 2. Natalie Portman is a really good actress, but you'd never know it from this performance. Her dialog and acting was quite awful. I don't care to know about how they are going do decorate the baby room in a Star Wars film. Why is he still being called Annie? He's supposed to be a kick ass Jedi Knight! Damn... Hayden Christensen's performance wasn't much better. Any time he smiled, it just looked so artificial. When someone is acting, it isn't supposed to look they are acting. All the political intrigue was a joke. The Jedi pretty much deserve what they got for how they chose do deal with Anakin and Palpatine. The Jedi bungled things pretty good for themselves. Grevious was a cartoon. He didn't even fit with the rest of the characters. His movements were bazarre and distracted me from what he was saying. He was pretty much a non-issue as far as the story goes. Same goes for Count Dooku, he was hardly in the movie. Isn't Yoda supposed to be a badass? He never won a fight in this whole trilogy. Mace Windu was better against Palpatine than Yoda was (That is, before Anakin showed up. After that, Palpatine used Mace to manipulate Anakin). The romance between Anakin and Padme was never convincing at all in Episode 2, so Anakin's main reason for turning to the dark side was also not believable to me. Where did all of R2-D2's abilities go in Episodes 4, 5, and 6? Ian Mcdiarmid as Palpatine was great in this, though. All of his lines were delivered nicely. Hell, he could say, "Pass the salt." and it would sound menacing. Ewan McGregor was good too as Obi-Wan. Too bad the rest weren't as good as him. The ending was rushed as Lucas frantically tried to tie up any loose ends he could think of. The effects were at times awesome, then at other times, terrible. The crash landing at the beginning was great. But the clone soldiers should have kept their helmets on at all times. It was so obvious that they were digital doubles when their helmets were removed. I really wanted to like this movie. I read all the reviews. It received over 80% at rottentomatoes.com. I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy (in their original form, too). Episodes 1 and 2 blew chunks. There's a lot more I didn't like, but this is already a long post.
  13. They should make a Murphy figure with a removeable riot helmet, detachable arm, right hand could be replaced with bloody stump, and refillable blood packets for the chest. His voice chip could include: "Pretty Neat!" "I always drive when breaking in a new partner" "Buddy, I think your slime!" and last but not least, "Aaaaaaaahhhhhhggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  14. At the risk of flooding Robotech's customer support team with defective Macross DVD claims... Ok folks, I started this thread, now I have some more info. I emailed Robotech.com's customer support explaining my problem with the discs. They replied to me saying if I send in my old discs, they'd send me new ones. Extremely nice of them if you ask me. So, I packaged my old discs for shipping, individual DVD cases and everything, and sent them off to Robotech to the address they provided me. I saved my original nine disc box so I could put the new disc cases in there. The new discs were sent to me several weeks later via FedEx. They even gave me a shipping number so I could track it. The discs they sent me were the three mini box sets, brand new and factory sealed. Say what you want about Harmony Gold/Robotech, but I must say, that's some pretty damn good customer service. Being that I bought my discs from Animeigo (not Robotech.com), and several years ago, they could have easily just said, "Sorry we can't help you, but thank you for your intestest in Robotech products." But they didn't. I received a 100% replacement. If you do decide to contact them, please be nice! Clearly state what is wrong, and ask if they can help. They handled my problem in the nicest way possible and certainly earned my respect. Later...
  15. Wow, nice images. Those were indeed the pegs I was wondering about. I guess I was doing it correctly then. Yes, with the gun attached between the arms, it does hold together better.
