WOW is only $19.99 ( to buy the retail game package) this month.
Stop whining and just buy it. Spend a week playing it.
When you go back to FFXI you'll be like "WTF WAS I THINKING?"
-
Man, what makes people want something THAT much.
It's a stupid hunk of very uninteresting plastic... It's about as articulated as a set of drawers, and not very pretty to look at.
That's like 12 or 14 1/48ths w/ FAST packs.

Oh, one more criticism of FFXI:
GIL GIL GIL
YOUR WHOLE DAMN LIFE IS ABOUT MAKING MONEY... IN YOUR VIRTUAL GAME!
I mean, WTF. A game should be fun. I don't want to logon and spend 9 hours farming garbage so I can buy 1 hours worth of arrows.
FFXI is pretty much the worst, most unbalanced, least interesting, flat out stupid game ever.
OH NO! I played a Dragoon! Guess I should kill myself, because no one will every part with me
( I played a Hume WHM/BLM, I always had parties. )
OH NO! I'm a Galka. Guess I have to pay an extra $1 a month for when I want to play as a Caster, because unless I spend 9 hours farming for each 1 hour I play, I won't be able to afford the ridiculous items I need to boost my MP.
OH NO! I have a life! Guess I can't play FFXI.

Yah I know everyone likes WoW WoW woopdiedo
. I just want to see what you guys think FFXI or WoW. WoW has been getting like so much attention its ticking me off that no one realizes thats a funamentaly easy game unlike FFXI, why damnit
!I feel like an awful player of FFXI playing a game that no magazine editorials, gaming sites, and etc don't care about
. I just want to know what you guys think, I prefer FFXI over WoW since its a harder game in most ways, rewards are hard earning but awesome, you make alot of friends, gameplay never gets boring(Well maybe a few times
) and more. What ya guys think, and why is WoW so damn popular...?I played FFXI for over a year, and then quit for WOW. Before that, I played Everquest from 2000 to the day FFXI came out in the US.
Let me tell you, of all these games, WOW has been the most fun leveling from 1-60, hands down. EQ was bad, but fun because of the parties. FFXI was the ABSOLUTE worst.
Compared to WOW and EQ, FFXI is a joke once you get past lvl 30. I took my White Mage to 70 and quit, because the idea of spend DAYS to get a level and getting NO new spells or abilities just did not tickle my fancy. Neither did spending HOURS LFG to get a party going, and then having to compete for camps.
FFXI is just garbage, period. The raiding is garbage. Spending all day waiting for a single giant turtle to spawn and then killing it before 5 other guilds who were also waiting int he same room all day, for ONE piece of loot, is, I'm sorry to say, moronic.
Lvls 1-30 were fun. You get a new spell or ability every few lvls, you get your sub-job and new jobs, lots of fun gear, etc. Cute characters and a few quests. Lots of fun. But once you get past 30, and more so as you pass 50, it's just sitting around doing the EXACT same thing over and over and over. Dumb dumb dumb.
WOW by contrast is FUN. Quests are fun. You complete a quest, and a goblin does a little dance and posions his friends. You get ITEMS for your efforts. When level, you get an ability point to spend on customizing your characters abilities. Every other level, you get new spells. Some are upgrades to old spells, others are completely new abilities, and this is true until lvl 60 (Contrast this to FFXI where you ONLY have spell-upgrades all the way from lvl 40 to 75, a span of XP that takes literally months to grind through).
In closing:
FFXI - Bullshit
WOW - Top notch.
Notion that "If everyone plays, it has to be bad" - Juvenile and stupid.

I'd say the most delicate part is the heat shield. Mine comes off often, and it's pretty obvious that two thin pegs that hold it in place will break off one day

One of the reason I buy kits, even when I don't have time to build them, is that having the kit makes me feel that the fantasy is just a little true...
Especially when they are still clean and pristine, on their sprues. A fresh kit in the box feels FANTASTIC because, somehow in my mind, I think that this kit might be the one that I build PERFECTLY... so perfect it might as well be real!
I almost think building perfect models is an attempt at recapturing the joy of child hood toys, where a wooden block with wheels on the side seemed like the real thing...

"Just because" isn't an answer. It sounds more like an unhealthy obsession than a fun hobby when it gets to the point that it literally takes days to inventory a collection. And comparing it to other "just because" hobbies doesn't really answer my question either.
(Not that I don't appreciate the response, but I'm looking for something deeper)
-
So can someone tell me WHY you all feel the need to have so many unbuilt model kits? I get the feeling that most of you NEVER plan to actually build these kits!
-
I think it's funny that this thread is called "OF ALL TIME" and most of you are only naming movies and actors from the last 5 years.
-
Seriously, it's the focus on thinking and planning that makes games like WOW and other MMO's so much more interesting than trigger twitching games like CC (to the millions of people play them, that is.)
This change sounds like the SWG people are losing so much share, and are so desperate to stay afloat they're throwing out everything. I like the idea though, an MMO that isn't an MMO version of Rogue.

I can't believe I'm the only Macross fan capital of the world

COME ON NYC PEEPS!
-
Boy did it have beautiful "space-scapes" in the first few installments.
-
Shouldn't this go under great-absurdity??

I think your CF looks great!
But I bet if you showed it to your GF/Wife/etc she would wonder why you made your pretty toy so dirty

-
They sure did have pretty coves back in the day...

Well, don't get me wrong, but I have an issue with paying $30+ USD for music that was broadcast into the air for free thousands over the last 25 years..
(the issue is that I'm cheap)
I could be buying bootleg garage kit models with that money!

As an amatuer filmmaker, I can tell you that a throw away scene like that is meant to visually communicate to the audience a message they will understand quickly, without going into dialogue or exposition. The scene lasts only moments, the attention of the audience is focused on a specific detail of the scene using light and color to emphasize the important details, the visual message is sent, and the scene ends.
In the case of Macross Plus, the scene in question is meant to tell the audience visually that the YF-19 is doing better than the YF-21 in ...... Thus the story creates drama.
I love it when sane people tell insane fanboy's whats what!

I used to be a HUGE fan of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura. It's been years (maybe 10!) since I last saw it, but I recently rented the 2nd movie, Beautiful Dreamer. It's by Mamoru Oshii, the same dude who did the Ghost In the Shell. Now, don't get me wrong, I recognize the GITS movie as steam pile of well drawn crap, but Beatiful Dreamer is something else altogether. A really fantastic, fun, touching, hilarious, and though provoking romp. I really recommend it. The style is simple, so the 22 year old animation is still very watchable (think classic Disney rather than DYRL's realistic style).
ANYWAY, plug aside, what I really was surprised by was how great some of the music was. I remember now that I used to have all the UY sound track CDs, but that was a long time ago and I've lost them

So what I'm wondering/hoping is if someone can help direct me to where I can find these old gems? The original TV-OP & ED, the songs from the movies, etc... I'll be honest and admit I'm looking for MP3s; I'm having the hardest time finding them on LimeWire/BitTorrent/etc. Any help would be very appreciated!

But in Mospeada, you never got that feeling of the ugly side of war. It was like an adventure. And each episode was very optimistic and feel-good and although someone died each episode to save others, this sacrifice was hopeful and inspiring, not gritty and dark, violent and brutal like private ryan, DYRL, platoon, Apocalypse now etc. (limbs being blown clean off, soldiers having fun beating the crap out of the enemy and loving it, enemy soldier being cold and emotionless as they casually finish off thier target like a kid sadistically squashing a bug for entertainment)
Heh you make it sound like an RPG!

That's right... something I learned a few years ago was that people make better decisions when they have less choices.
Consider:
What do you want for lunch today?
or
Do you want Pizza or Tacos?
-
Humans weren't that beaten down in Mospeada. Remember the village that Jim Austin returns too, there's a whole, normal social structure. You see poeple going about their business.
In the 'old west' town(old geezer's episode), there's a sheriff and everything in town.
Then there's the Rainy Boy episode where again, people form posse's to hunt Rainy Boy.
In New York, they still practice for Broadway shows...

I wouldn't take the notion of being "free" or having a "normal" social structure too far. People were only as free as the Inbit let them be. If for some reason they felt like toppling a town or replacing its leadership, imposing a curfew or converting it into a biological experiment there was nothing the local human "authorities" could do to fend them off other than deliver people/energy-whatever/gold/etc to placate them.
People, especially the children, might act like things were A-OK, but deep down they were living every day fearing that it might be their last normal one.

「消ã™ã€ or "Erase" kinda has the same meaning for kill as "rub-out" would.
I do agree, however, that the subtitles could have been better. There are a lot of times when anime will use the same phrases over and over ad nausium (such as 「è½ã¡ã‚ï¼ã€ almost anytime someone in Gundam is shooting at another MS). While it doesn't really sound stange in Japanese, once you go to subtitle it, you can't really use the same pattern over and over without it sounding stupid in English (yet that doesn't stop many subtitlers).
Anyhow... after the whole Stig thing...
That's right... the Mospeada subtitles were FAR too literal. I wonder if my utter disgust for it (I liked the Robotech version MUCh better) was partially caused by the poorness of the subtitles. The Mospeada box set REAKED of "well, we have this property that alot of fanboys will buy simply because they are fanboys, lets not put all that much effort into it."
I must say, I absolutely ABHOR where commercial DVD subtitles are going. Personally, I am a fan of good dubs, because I feel that staring at the bottom of the screen reading is not the best way to enjoy the full animation frames. However, the way they use the DVD Closed-Captions feature to do the subtitles is AWFUL. Fansubs look SO MUCH better! It really pains me when I end up watching the sub because the dub on the disc is.

I used to work one project at a time.
Then I got into a crunch and started working two projects at once.
For a while I had 4 going at one time. And we're not talking worked on it and put it aside, I'm talking 4 spots on the workbenchs. Frak.
I blame it on Starship Modeler.
It's all thier fault.
Whenever I do more than 1 at a time, I end up NEVER finishing anything
So now I try to stick to one at a time, but that one just ends up taking months to finish (I'm about to start Decal'ing my YF-21 that I started back in June...)

The deal is something like $20 rebate for everyone, and then there is another $10 rebate that you can give up to 3 times if you are already a subscriber.
Given that there are more people playing WOW than there are Armenians in the world, I'm sure anyone can find someone willing to give you a rebate.
Hell.. there's like 2.5 million people playing. That's 7.5 million possible rebates... 75 million dollars worth of rebate!
