Stargate: SG1 and Atlantis get new cast members
armentage replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I gotta say, these new episodes have been great! Almost recaptures the initial delight I felt when I first started to watch the show. FAR more chemistry between these new characters than there was between the original cast in the later seasons (when O'neil got sick of it) Claudia Black is fantastic as Vala. I love her space-slurm-charlatan act, nice contrast from the hard & stearn character she played on Farscape and in other movies. Now if they could onyl get Teal'c to shave his head again... -
Wouldn't amonia be a good cleaner? I've seen amonia break up and carry away paint that was dry 10 years...

I would say get a Treo650. You can pick one up for around $200 with a 2-year commitment from any of the major wireless providers. Check out Buy.com. Treo650 is a Palm based Cellphone-PDA combo. It's the same thing as any of the lesser Palm "Zire" devices, along with an integrated cel-phone and full wireless internet capability. It can connect to ANY type of email-account (POP, IMAP, Yahoo, Outlook, Hotmail, etc.). It can real many kinds of files (Word, Excel, Acrobat, images, video, etc.) It can browse the web, play music, and play video. It can act as a cellular modem for your laptop. In addition to all that, it's also a top-class PDA with a great appointment book, contacts manager, note pad, etc etc etc. It's beefier than the average celphone, beefier than the average PDA, but smaller and handier than any two seperate devices. It's freaking incredible!

What batteries are these??

I'd love to see a twin side-by-side seater version of a Valk... BIG FAT CANOPY!! Sort of like an F-111, A6, or Mig-32 (twin seater version of the Mig-27 used as a bomber) Call it a Bomber-Valk or something... (ugh FireBomber-Valk...)

Actually I'd prefer some giant twist. The original conception of the show is a little dumb. It's not a re-make of the original story, but rather a re-make disguised as a sequel. Its the exact same situation (all the colonies attacked by cylons, and one fleet survives, and is fleeing to Earth protected by Galactica) only 30-something years later. Some of the same names too... I mean, is it a remake or a sequel? It's vague and hard to tell. I'm glad they are making a decent go at it with the plot, characters, sets, etc. But I'm sure the earlier episodes would have been better if they could tell the WHOLE story from the begining, rather than having to horse-shoe things in as a sequel for nostalgia's sake.

Actually I purposely did not mention the VF-0D because it really IS DIFFERENT! It's a fantastic looking bird, and it's a shame that it didn't get as much face time as the swing-wing units. I really liked the idea of a two-seater Valk where the weapons officer did the targetting work like an F-14. Sure is a lot more believable! The 0D also had a much more interesting color scheme than the other models... now that I think about, it was almost Max-esque...

My chick says the beach Gundams are cute, but she's worried that is going to be a lot of work gettnig all that sand out of the axel grease and joints! -
I'm actually surprised they killed Crashdown like that. His character had had alot of screen time and lines. They just tossed out a huge amount of character devleopment. I wonder, was the actor was planning on leaving the show? Or maybe he was only there as long as Boomer was going to be there, and once that version of her was outed, they decided to write him out ASAP.

How does the Turn-A Kapool differ from the ZZ Kapool? Ah, my mistake - I thought these must be from ZZ given that they look an awful lot like a Kapool. I love that photo... Gundam's having a beach party! -

Can anyone point me to a Kapool kit? The big green ball-like mecha that Soichie uses in Turn-A Gundam? -
In regards to the VF-0 being "boring" because it really is just a VF-1 "upgraded" to look more real, I totally agree. Not that it's not impressive to look at, but it really is just a rehash of the same thing. The YF-11, 19, 23, and the SV-51 are fantastic because they are REALLY different birds with totally new transformations... I would have loved it if the VF-0 looked more like a Navy Phantom, an F-16, or maybe an F-18... maybe not an older fighter, but perhaps like one of the F-14's contemporaries. Lets face it, the VF-1 is obviously based on the F-14. Twin intakes on either side of the cockpit UNDER the wing surfaces; swing-wing design; twin tail fins and dual exhausts. F-4s, F-15s and the F-18 are similar, but somewhat different in the geometry of the intakes, the ratio of nose to body, etc etc. It really would have been interesting to see the VF-0 based on a different geometry. Something like the F-16, or the F-4 with it's funny tail section. Maybe the Harrier! VTOL Valkries that could take off vertically and transform without any forward velocity. All I'm saying is, things could have been a lot more interesting.

What's the best MECH fight ever...?!
armentage replied to Holmes's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Let me add Gundam EVOLVE #4... Computer rendered Gundam flying around with the giant booster/gun-pod assault craft, absolutely destroying the opposition. I haven't seen the original, but my god did the rendered version look gorgeous. -

I'm going with episode 5 of Macross-Zero, Hero-boy vs Nora and Roy vs Ivanov. Though, you might say half of that was aerial combat rather than mecha... Mac+ Isamu vs Guld fight at the end of Episode 2(3?) was pretty awesome too. The one where the gun-pod accidentally goes off. -
Gorgeous!!

Turn-A itself was very cool design, but I also love the re-appearance of older mecha. The Zakus, mellon-balls, and all the other crazy mobile suits. The variety and disparate styles is really refreshing. Even the throw-back character designs are great. It's just all so different. Turn-A has soul... The Yoko Kanno sound track doesn't hurt either!

Turn-A All the Way! I've never been a huge Gundam anime fan, but Turn-A isn't your average Gundam... the show is fantastic... gets boring at times, but it always draws my attention back with some huge twist. The Zacktreager just blew my mind last night! Seed... The CTOON network dub is so bad... the story is so moronic (up to ep 14)...

I don't know if this helps, but there is a lo-fi version. 311815[/snapback] Lo-fi version was better, but you still get stuck with lots of link-dodging and horizonal scrolling. I'm google for INVISION POWER BOARD and see if there's any info out there.

Yum, Sentinel... beautiful mecha. One description of Sentinel was that the Mobile Suits were more like Space-Shuttles than Mecha. Love it!

Is there any mechanism that would let me read MW on my Palm? Something like RSS reader support? I tried reading MW using the Treo650 web browser, but it turned out pretty horrible. The UI was just unusable. Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Stargate: SG1 and Atlantis get new cast members
armentage replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not very excited about the new general they have for SG1. He seems like he could be cool, like a cross between O'Neil & Gen. Hammond, but the way he just showed up out of the blue leaves me a little cold. I always liked Ben Browder on Farscape. He's a little flat, but has the sort of energy and attitude that the show needs. The last few seasons have been pretty stale & stupid, ever since R.D.Anderson got obviously sick of putting effort into his role. God I wish Teal'c would shave his head again. -
Not nearly mechanical enough!

Battlestar Galactica Viper Mark II

God I hate ERTL... Their Star Wars & Startrek kits were catatrophes, ever single one of them. Why do they get EVERY studio contract in the US? B5, Star Wars, Star Trek, Airwolf! Many more I'm missing... and their kits were always crap! Has the quality of their product at least kept pace with the rest of the industry? Or are they still putting out that thick, mishappen crap?
