Some VF11 comparisons with Revoltech 1J. I love this Valk!
After seeing these pics, I could see getting this VF11. Only if they don't end up making the transformable 1/60, though.

Thanks for the pics, Graham; and for my new avatar!

Was a very nice scene of female bonding that, girls being girls they started doing each other's hair.... wait, what?

I let a girl or two french braid my hair back when it was long. I really didn't like the way it looked or felt, but they enjoyed it. I cared about them and was perfectly content to let them have their fun. Perhaps it was those memories that made me think that was a cute relationship scene between Alto & Ranka.
As for the rest of the episode, holy cats, Grace is a beech! It looks like someone figured out how Gigil's powers worked... The Global was interesting. As I'd mentioned in the WTF-1 thread, I'm a little disappointed that it was a red herring, but glad since it went boom. I'd be willing to bet that it was a very different ship internally from the SDF-1, even if it looked similar on the the outside. Probably fewer cavernous areas for teens to get lost in. All in all, great episode - the show's certainly gone back to gritty! Can't wait for this weeks, 171 FTW!

Once again, why are people applying Occam's Razor to a work of fiction, which is consciously created to be surprising and to create unusual, unpredictable connections and story turns?
True, and there's a distinction between what's the simplest explanation in the actual fictional universe and the simplest explanation for the narrative.
Now, admittedly, they have to make it at least semi-plausible, but still...they can say anything they want to. Because it's fiction. And really, that's where you win or lose fans. I love stories that throw you big WTF moments like this, or Lost or Battlestar. It's the ability to follow up with an explanation that shows the writers put real thought behind it and incorporated it well that makes it satisfying. This is where Lost, er, lost me: mystery after mystery with 1 contrived backstory after another. I just got tired of waiting for any exposition for all the shows events (They may be resolving it now, I dunno, it's a little too late for me). Battlestar almost had the same effect a few times, but Baltar keeps me tagging along.
IF the writers have to invent some crazy, over-contrived (lets face it - it will be kinda nutty and contrived) reason for the Macross (or M-alike) sitting on Gallia4 or just blow it up and move on; I'll be quite disappointed in the show. I'll still watch it though, I mean it's Macross after all. But it would feel a little empty if the Macross gets destroyed (completely that is, I'm OK with severely damaged and repairable).

VF-11B
This is a habit I can't afford to form, but I'll make this one exception. I luv it so.
-
On the other hand, I'm not certain why people bring up Occam's Razor in defense of it being the SDF-1 Macross. If anything, it seems to require more assumptions than the idea that the UN continued building ships of that class to accompany colony fleets.
I'm invoking the Razor in the following way: If it looks like the Macross, characters call it the Macross, and there's no canonical proof that there were ever any other ships that looked like the Macross; then it's probably the Macross.
Now if they show us otherwise, ok; but I think that'd be kind of a cop-out. Meh, either way we'll just have to wait 'til Thursday (or in my case, Saturday am to see Chihiro's sub)

-
-
Well, one thing's clear at least... I'll have to stay away from the entire forum until the subs come out, b/c I want to see and find out what's going on at the same time. Dern foreign language cliffhangers...
Just to throw in my 2 cents, I'm gonna claim Occam's Razor and think it's probably the SDF-1 Macross. I think Zinjo has built an interesting case, but it's about as clear cut as Guld's dastardly sabotage from the M+ OVA.
It does seem to require a lot more additional circumstance and information, but who knows! I hope it's the Macross and I hope it doesn't get blown up or left behind... I can't wait to find out!*Imagine the amounts of win seeing the Macross & Quarter fighting alongside eachother...

-
Well... the art there is nice at least, hehe. Check out what I just found... Could it be official art?
I already posted this image in the Mecha thread... Sorry for the re-post, I couldn't resist sharing it here...

Fanart or not, I has a new wallpaper...

I would love a poster of All that VF, it's purty!

I've been thinking about the earlier comment (sorry, don't remember who said it) that the Zentran rebellion was like a GI Joe battle. At first, I was feeling the same way. The Q-reas stayed on the ground, nobody was hitting anything... I was kind of indignant, b/c Ep1 made it look like we were getting another gritty Macross series. Between all the poor VF-171 pilots and Gillaim, it seemed we would have another SW-1 scale bloodbath on our hands. I'm still a little disappointed that the series has taken a softer touch, but I've been thinking about Temjin's insurrection a little more.
What if it both sides were playing along with the plan? I mean, as agile as the Q-reas are, they could have dispatched the commander & adviser easily. Also, there's gotta be more than 1/2 dozen of those suckers at the base. And why not send out some other Q-reas or Regulds from the ships hangar instead of threatening to obliterate the base? Maybe they were just posturing b/c they were complicit, or b/c they really didn't want to fight...
Also, do you think there's any significance to the name selection in this group? Temjin, Ogodai? Both fairly important Mongols there... Temjin was Genghis Khan's given name, and Ogodai Khan was his heir...

Maybe the rear seat it stowed and can be deployed when needed, possibly to carry a second crewman when the mission calls for it?
Or maybe it's a module that can be fitted easily into the cockpit. Perhaps Mikhail had the module swapped from his VF into Alto's for Ranka's trip home. Then he would follow behind with Sheryl's ship using the standard fold systems.

I'll say i won't be dissapointed if it doesn't have the Ghost Booster, only as long as it has the leg FPs.
If they do make a VF-0, my only request is that it be properly to scale with the VF-1. But, since they didn't do that with the 19 & 21, I'm not holding my breath.

Possible future Revo Macross
Well considering how the VF-1 & Regult bare a striking resemblence in style to the Kaiyodo/CM Gashpons of a few years back, and seeing that they've made the VF and Regult, I can guess we can expect the Destroid and 1J with Armour as they also appeared in that line.
What would be cool is if they could design the Armor pack as an accessory that would fit on the VF-1 body; somehow maintaining the posability of the original. But honestly, I don't see that working. Really though, even in SDFM, the armored 1J lumbered around like Randy anyway.
I think they should release a VF-1 Brownie. I'd spring for 1 more of those...

I voted for the 11.
As much as I love the VF-1, 19 & 25; the VF-11 hold a special place in my heart. Like many, it's debut in M+ was the first post-Robotech, REAL VF I ever saw. It is so clearly the offspring of the VF-1A, it even has the same facial features! Finally, the dialog that refers to it as the VF Thunderbolt got me. It wasn't a Valkyrie at all! It had its own label & everything. Of course, there was the bayonet & Isamu kicking so much ass. Probably the most memorable moment in all of Macross for me.
It's also probably the only 1/60 I'll be buying, if it gets the green light.

Retired, moved in with Exsedol in some nice tropical planet that Macross 7 found where they spend their days sipping daquiris and leering at the pretty girls in swimsuits.
I'd LOVE to see fanart of that!

Or he is one of the president in N.U.G.?
This is kind of what I was thinking.
On one hand, you'd think if Frontier was the 'roving capital' of the NUG, the NUNS military wouldn't be so incompetent. I guess its possible that the military may have hung Howard out to dry and deliberately staffed the fleet with green pilots. However, remember in both versions of Ep1, Glass is first shown behind his desk and the description "Frontier Presidency" is shown on the screen. That, more than anything, says to me that there may be several presidents out there. Likely they'd be given more sweeping authority than the mayors in order to safeguard and better control the larger and further traveling fleets.
*edit "They're given more" sound more definitive - I'm only speculating. Switched to "They'd be"

Hey guys, a while back I posted the attached scheme for my custom VF-1A, including a cute anime angel for wingart. Unfortunately, my hard drive has crashed, and I seem to have lost all of my pretty lineart, color schemes and everything else. In this case, of particular note was the angel for the tail. It was one of a series of slightly ecchi angels (just slightly provocative poses) that were wearing scifi armor and little targeting monocles. There was also 1 for each major color: red, black, gold, green, blue, etc...
Has anyone seen anything like this out there? I've been searching for a while but I can't recall where I found it.
Maybe this isn't the right place for the question, but it is color-scheme related...
*Edit: Almost forgot to say thanks for any consideration or help!

I was looking at these again, and while they do look sharp and clear and beautiful - they do lose a little bit of illusion. The pics on the right almost look filmed, with higher contrasts and variance in focus. Eh, maybe it's just me. They're also a little more forgiving on any animation errors. Maybe I'm just used to washed out and blurry M7 - maybe that's the way I think it's supposed to be...

Cool! Thanks Graham!
I'm liking the Cheyenne2. It takes a lot of the best destroid elements. You've got the variable legs and vulcan cannons of the original Cheyenne, built-in missile launchers like the Phalanx and the BIG arm cannons of the Tomahawk. I wonder if it has hands on the back of the arms like the Cheyenne. All it's missing is some wicked gun clusters...
As for the Quarter Pounder, I still really like the attacker mode... But I'm disappointed with the cruiser mode. I just think they could have integrated the arms and the legs a little better, maybe given it more of a Meltrandi Gunship silhouette. Right now, it just looks kinda like an asymmetrical White Base with wimpy struts connecting the main engines. It does, however, seem to spend most of its time with those legs tucked into Island1, so it's not bugging me THAT much.

I don't think you're right on that one judging from what was already said about Gilliam being able to keep up with the red Vajra in episode 1 while Ozma couldn't attain that level of speed.
I think the reason why Alto isn't able to keep up with Ozma in episode 7 is because he's still 'green' and this is his first real combat. He's just having trouble adapting I think

I think the problem with the full armor system is its acceleration. In Ep7, the whole squadron (or flight) was already up to speed when they attacked. In Ep1, Ozma had to accelerate from a full stop in the asteroids, while Gilliam was already flying about at speed. Normally we're used to a VF transforming and zooming off in a heartbeat, but look at how long it takes Ozma to get out of those asteroids.

Teaser images from episode 1, hence uncorrected aspect ratio. I''ll post CA versions when I can.
Wow, those look FAR better than the ones I have. I might have to update my M7 collection...
Secondly, seeing the Macross7 in that rich and sharp of a picture REALLY makes the difference in size apparent between it and the Frontier.
*was gonna post a comparison, but can't find a good pic of Frontier right now...
-
From here...

I meant in the transformation, not stylistically...
I'll have to wait for clearer pictures, but I don't see the white shoulder markings on the dorsal or ventral surfaces. Of course, if the intakes stay on the chest instead of the legs, then there may be some more areas in there for shoulder armor.
On another note...
Am I the only one who thinks about Gatchaman when I see the VF-19S?
