Honestly, if those are domestic numbers, I'm not surprised. While it has its fans, most anime as a whole, just isn't that well known here in the States. There are a few exceptions, like Pokeman, Naruto, and DBZ, but outside of a handful of really popular animes aimed at kids, the more mature anime is obscure. We saw GiTS at an 1130 showing yesterday, and there were only about 20 people in the theatre to see it, so even with Scarlett attached, a big name doesn't always sell a movie. My wife and I were the first two people in the theatre, followed by another couple prob in their 40's or 50's who had no idea what the movie was about, and most likely, had never heard of Ghost in the Shell. I'm guessing they were bored, or they anticipated an empty theatre so they could get up to some sexual shenanigans (we had an older couple than this having sex a few rows down from us during another movie a year or two ago- crazy times we live in). Anyway, I imagine profits will be much higher in China and Japan. I hope it makes some kind of profit; it's a better movie than some others I've seen (like every Bayformer movie thus far.)

Same here. I watched the movie on the 2nd day of screening. The studio was only half full (or half empty if you're negative minded :) ). And that is with ScarJo name in it.

As manga/anime adaptation, GitS is better than Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow.

Really like the satin finish & the vibrant gold.

They even managed to fit the rear landing gears in those tiny bays.

That looks great!  I too am having to learn 3D.  2D now has it's limits.  Thanks for sharing!  Are you using an acetone fog to smooth it over?- MT

I am planning with traditional way using sandpaper, but I will dig about the acetone fog.

so perhaps our 1/72 vf-17 and VF-9 Cutlass isnt too far off then?

I haven't think about the next project...but maybe.

  4. Hi Citizens of SDF-1,

Just got myself to learn the 3D design software & 3D-print. One of the first practice object is the bastard child of the Macross universe, the VF-2SS.

Software is using Sketchup. Printer technology used is FDM (to save budget ), I outsource it to a printing service.

I scale the model to 1/60, but I'm not sure whether the measurement is correct (judging from comparison with DX VF-25)

Due to my lack of skill, I haven't been able to create printable panel lines, so I'll have to add them manually ... after I smooth out all the FDM's layer lines.

    Critics & Suggestions are welcomed.

Rearranged my Zero shelf. Not sure if I will get the armor set.

Got to love the Zero-Dee, the large wing looks balanced with the big body.

I missed the delta winged Valks. Most of the hero valks are either swing-wing or forward swept wing.

  6. It would be more interesting if in Battroid mode, the Valk disassemble and completely cover the Girl like an armor.

The way it is now, it's just various Valk parts dangle at the Girl's back.

  7. I never pay attention to how massive the Vajra is in the anime, until I see your comparison picture above.

Considering the size (and thus, the weight) I think you will need large joint too.

Revoltech/Figma joint won't do. Worst case, you might have to design you own joint.

  8. 8 - Yousei (Fairy)

    10 - Eien (Eternity)

Wow, it's quite unusual she put these songs in the setlist on non-Macross concert.

I attended her Dots & Lines tour and kinda expecting these songs, but they weren't included.

These 2 are my favorite, especially Yousei in slow version (I think it was in Budokan)

  9. Is this the first time we've seen the DX with the arm railguns extended? Does any of that text say whether the guns fold out properly or if they require parts swapping like the model kit? I would hope they fold out properly, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of room in the forearm. Maybe they just flip upward on a hinge instead of extending outward?

From what I can tell, they flip upward on a hinge running along the center of the forearm

  10. The model kit 'cheat' by replacing the rudder's base with a bracket.

Interesting to see how the DX will implement this If the they want to retain the perfect transformation.

  11. Did some re-shuffling to help make a few shelves look a little less cluttered.. still not quite where I want things to be due to space constraints but I think its better.

Also fitted the original head unit back on the VE-1 which seemed appropriate. Just didn't look right with the VF-1A head fitted..

Great display. There's no such thing as "Too many VF-1".

  12. And an example of Bandai coming up with a superior method.

Yes, agreed. Bandai's swing-&-slide mechanism is better than Yamato's rotation one.

But then, as someone pointed out on previous post, Bandai has the benefit of reverse engineering Yamato's VF-1 B))

  13. It's a bitch to do properly and not have a bunch of excessive bits hanging from it. The recent 1/60 2SS's had a horrible, messy undercarriage when it's supposed to be perfectly flat. We all want to see if Bandai pulled it off.

What's special about is we'll see if it's a parts former or Perfect transformation. The Last time somebody tried a VF-2ss Toy the undercarriage was full of fail.

Yes, It will be interesting to see how the same challenge tackled by 2 different companies.

The shoulder transformation of HMR VF-1 is one thing different from Yamato VF-1.

Looks good, but not good enought
the legs connectors are awful by the other side looks better proportionate specifically of the legs and seems bandai make the opposite of evolution toys with the arm connector changing in to the leg
I omit the unsightly holes in the arm if improvement the lock system in fighter mode
it would be interesting if bandai will make it in DX because with this tiny size I still prefer the evolution option
I want to think the hi metal will be a more playable and toy and an alternative for the people dont liked the evolution figure

VF2SS' elbow articulation got me worried. There's a screw in there with only small amount of plastic (or metal ?) around it.
