Next time someone makes a movie "inspired by" or "based on" a book, I'll remind them that they should keep it 100000% accurate. Maybe they should call it a Documentary or "Starhip Troopers: A Study on Heinlein's Philosophy" instead of "Action movie". Yeap. Me too. But I thought both Macross and DYRL were the same. Or am I mistaken? Nope. DYRL came out after Macross the series. The movie wasn't supposed to be true to the book - you said it yourself, it is a 'parody'. I wouldn't essentially call Verhoeven "Hollywood" either. Verhoeven left Europe because of the interference the liberals/Leftists gave in his work. He got tired of it, packed his bags and came to America. But I digress. About the series :: I just recently got my hands on the entire series, all released versions, in it's entierity for the first time Been watching it ALL day long

Actually, Verhoeven produces the animated series as well The point is, Verhoeven never really intended to stay true to the book in it's entierity - to do so would have easily meant box-office failure. Most of heinlein's books deals with morals and philosophy - which are hard to convert to onscreen action. The movie was essentially an action flick - much like RoboCop - with subtle hints of trademark Verhoeven satire and philosophy. Big time fan. I actually liked this series to the movie as it had a lot more to do with the book than the movie ever did (not blaming Verhoeven. I understand it wasn't his intention anyway to make his movie relating to the book). In anycase, anyone else out here who likes 'em? I feel cheated that they never finished the series - imagine making Macross and not doing the Battle with Dolza of the final showdown with Khaifun! There's been petitions going around. Hopefully they will finish it. The show isn't being aired anymore but I understand that some parts of Austalia are still airing this series. I totally loved it.

To add more fun to this confusion, isn't that child supposed to be Dana? Well, atleast that's what I could gather from the Sentinels movie (and IIRC, from Robotech as well!) What's the point? Dana is how is called the max and Milia doughter in robotech, but they didn't translate the title in Viva Dana, probably they got confused (idots...) and thought it was Miria or they just thinked it was better. M&M doughter is Komilia Maria Fallyna Jenius, and that episode is named after her. THinking about it, probably Keith is right but "Millia" is how it was spelled in the original SDF Macross show. ps About Miria on the Yamato Product, didn't they misplelled Guld before too? You maybe right. There might not be any point. I just thought I'd like to point it out

I might largely agree with boradshore. It was building up quite well but frankly the ending was a BIG let-down.

Angel's Paints, DYRL and that classic intro to DYRL (the movie) ... I think it's called Everlasting Love (prelude). And ofcourse the orchestral versions - specifically "Dogfighter" and "Battle of 50,000 years". *sigh*

Agreed! And I must add though, I actually felt DESOLATE when Cartoon Network cancelled Robotech. I remember waking up early mornings, an HOUR before I needed to get up to get ready for school - just so that I could watch the rerun of the episode that was on the previous evening! But nothing took my breath away like DYRL...

If anyone here has read up anything on defensive lasers as part of ballistic missile defence during the Cold War - you'll realise that while getting a high powered laser to vaporise an incoming warhead is important - the tricky part is focussing and mroe importantly - channeling (to concentrate the light into a beam instead of having it go all over the place).Channeling makes it more powerful, as more light energy is concentrated onto the target. This is especially important when you have annoyances such as an atmospehere in your way

Probably the only redeeming quality in Macross 7.
