  1. Wow, it looks amazing painted and decaled and with the weapons mounted on the wings.

The nose and canopy look much better also now. I think having the canopy frame in black really helps.

    I want.

If it sells for 35$ somewhere like the VF4, I too, want. 35$ is inexpensive for a such a garage kit IMHO (they certainly don't enjoy the same scale economies as Bandai since they produce in small numbers and with lower tech). I'll keep my fingers crossed...

  2. Yeah, the Experten "kits" are clearly for toy enthusiasts. Articulation over fine detail, casted in color and no gluing required.

That said, the engineering and sculpts are great. It's a good, but expensive way to get a hold of some of the obscure valks as toys that may never see light, like the VF-4.

You can get the VF-4 for as low as 35$ by the way ;-)...

  3. PS - What is this feature here of it closing from the bottom? I like the protecting-the-pilot idea but he really becomes Kermit then. I did see this little scope go up in the line art but do not know its function. what about a working fog light?

Or a device allowing to look behind? Or maybe something similar (in terms of function) to the AH64 Apache's radar/optronic ball (above the rotor - the helo flies below treetop level but keeps the ability to see above the treetops in order to fire missiles without being exposed) ?

  4. Some guy named Experten is going to sell a fully transformable 1/100 VF-4G at Wonder Festival 2010. Around 18,000 yen each I think.

Seems that before, he sold at Treasure Festa, some 1/100 VF-17D and VF-19A models for 30k yen and 35k yen each, respectively.

Of course, I am reading this off Google Translate and trying to make sense of it.

    Wow :-)

After seeing this VF-17D, I really wonder what stops Bandai from doing a 1/72 VF171... really nice kit from Experten!

  5. I'm getting the impression that Bandai hates the VF-171, or is just not aware it exists, or just doesn't think it would sell.

There has been absolutely no news of a VF-171 model.

Likewise, there has also been a deathly silence regarding a VF-171 in any of the many Macross F toy lines.

Thanks Graham! I won't hold my breath! :-)

Too bad though! What if we decided to form a lobby and demonstrate in front of Bandai's headquarters? I'm a French citizen (and soon will be a Canadian citizen as well) and demonstrating is the French National Sport :p

  6. I assume that the model has a hard time standing on its own legs in Gerwalk mode WITH KNEES FLEXED FORWARD so you decided to leave them straight for the photo shooting?

Yes, that's partly the reason why I left the legs straight! The model stands better in gerwalk mode with its legs straight! :-)

But the gerwalk mode is also more flexible when the legs are positioned the way they are in the pictures: you can give them more spread, hence, the gerwalk mode has more stability this way. And, visually speaking, I lie it better that way :-)

Oh, and one "thumbs up": the VF25 was unable to stand on one leg, the VF27 is able to do so. Because the VF-27 has two "rear toes". Hey, I'm inventing new words too :-)

So, any news of the VF171?

I really like the VF27, issues are really minor and can certainly be fixed with minimal tools and supplies...

    So I can't wait for the VF-171!

  7. Some pics of my straight build!

Will add decals, panel lining, later :-)

The fighter mode holds together incredibly well! The new tabs are really effective.

The battroid mode is a little flimsy, but still allows some nice poses.

The gerwalk mode... had to fiddle a little to find out a way to make the model stand on its own in gerwalk.

Some pieces keep fallin off (nose gear doors, nose cone for example :-P and the head antenna needs some glueing!)

  8. Nice build..

How old is your ferret? They are awesome pets. At some point I had 5..

    Thanks!!!

The ferret is 2 years old :-) She's incredibly curious, independant and hyperactive!

I added some weathering and paint to the Arios. The Terminus R909 also saw some improvements since the last pics...

But maybe I'll wait till I'll have applied the decals and future to Arios before showing more pics :-)

    Thanks for the comments!

    Seb.
