The original 1/72 transforming VF-1 kits were done by Imai, later acquired and reissued a couple times by Bandai. I have a VF-1J Max Type from Imai and VF-1D, VF-1J Millia, and three VF-1As from Bandai. I’m not sure under which owner they were marketed through Revell. I should have a couple of those Revell kits somewhere, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t take good care of them as I preferred the Japanese kits.

Arii made 1/100 transforming VF-1 kits. I have one that was issued by Revell in the Robotech Changers series. The Revell instructions say “MACROSS, Tatsunoko Production MOLDED BY ARII, JAPAN” on the front page. Interestingly, it’s Roy’s VF-1S in the correct scheme, labeled as “VF-1S Battloid.” Revell didn’t market the 1/100 kits in funky paint schemes like the 1/72 kits.

    Thanks.

Hasegawa hasn't done any transforming kits. All the recent transforming stuff is Bandai or Aoshima.

As KOG above said, the recent transforming kits have been from Bandai. Hasegawa and Max Factory seem to be doing separate kits for the different modes. As far as parts forming, there were the Tomy Techones in 1/144 and wave has a few VF-1 kits in 1/100. I think wave just rereleased their partsforming ones. And Bandai just started doing hg mostly partsforming 1/100 kits.

Most of the companies that handle Macross have stayed away from transforming kits from the Macross franchise. Bandai has a daring group of engineers that seem to like a challenge even if the end product isn’t the greatest. Their transforming VF-1 is a bit of a jiggly boy and either pops apart or just falls over, but I do have to praise their ambition

    Thanks guys!

    This is what I had:

    ScreenShot2024-01-18at8_22_12AM.png.4b5acdf50d61b64e966c995ce8df1e06.pngScreenShot2024-01-18at8_48_01AM.png.a3828831ed653de6e3baaf1386f60958.png

Same kit, different boxing.  The Revell offering just changed the instructions, but everything else was the same.

Yes, the transforming offerings were kind of flimsy or delicate and needed to be handled with care.

  3. I know Arii in the past did a transformable 1/72 scale Valkyrie which was later released by Revell in the USA.

    Did Hasegawa do anything similar?

(Sorry, been out of the loop when it comes to Hasegawa Macross kits!  I did recently get a Mac 0 1/72 VF-0S as a Christmas present from my daughters.)

Not 'left alone' but treated better. I enjoyed both recent movies as pop-corn flicks. All they needed was better stories, or just better translations of those stories to the screen.

Crystal Skull wasn't bad, and I'm currently watching Dial of Destiny (and enjoying it).  But enough definitely becomes enough for any series character.

Tom Cruise sequels has typically tended to be successful, although in reality, he has had only one franchise, and his other effort hasn't been.  But you have my point, he shouldn't do it.

Ford has been very unsuccessful with his Jones sequels, and he has had two of those that were just horrid.

The hand of the mouse reaches far.

Exactly.  There comes a time when enough is definitely enough.

I love Indiana Jones, but the last two movies were proof that it should have been left alone decades earlier.

They could always make TGIII into a prequel. Cruise can play Pete Mitchell's dad and explore his Phantom exploits with Viper over Vietnam and his final, heroic mission. The final scene of the movie could show the brand-spanking new F-14s being delivered to the navy. Epic win.

I think that's the popular demand that TG fans are wanting these days.  Who knows, they [creators] might run with that, but then again, when have movie makers take fan demands to heart?  (Star Trek maybe, but that was a massive effort decades before the net and social media.  Today, someone's efforts would have to be ten times more.)

ya know it's funny, I just received my Blu-ray copy of the series, personally I'm sorta hesitant on the quality when I get a 3 part anime on 1 Blu-ray disc....However it does seem to be crammed with a lot of stuff cause not only does it carry the 3 ADV dubs, but it also has the original Streamlines Pictures dub which I did enjoy and was the first anime I owned on DVD back in the ......oh gosh late 90's? But it also has the Part 2 international release. Since it's AnimEgo I know it's gonna be at least a decent set to own, just need more time to explore my copy.

How many dubs of MZ exist?

  8. I know, I'm behind the power curve, I haven't seen this series yet!  I've been busy.

But it looks like it's as exciting as the trailers make it to be (then again, don't they all?).

I saw Obi-Wan and all Mando episodes; Obi-wan was okay, but didn't have the wow factor, and Mando S3; while I liked it, something seemed to be missing.

That's probably why I have procrastinated on Ahsoka.

    I look forward to this!

I don’t think it was necessarily bad, it’s just that I don’t like that kind of storyline, it really bums me out after seeing the way things ended from the previous parts.

So far, what I have seen in my opinion wasn't that bad.  Unlike the first two movies, it was harder to get into.  I remember watching the first movie back in 1986; there wasn't a subtitle version available to my knowledge at the time, I didn't understand what was going on and obviously the dialogue, but I saw something special in the story!  It took me several viewings to get some idea of the plot, but MZ23 had a new fan in me!

Pt II the same, but it was kind of hard to get used to the new art style of the folks.

MZ23 III?  I remember when it came out I was excited.  I didn't see it when released initially.  Then reading some of the reviews here on the Macross World forums and other places, I decided to skip out.  When the (now defunct) ADV films released all three movies on DVD, I only bought the first two movies.

Fast forward to last month; I catch III on youtube.  Now I see why it's not as loved as the first two.

Again, I don't think it's that bad, but it does't have the same draw as the previous movies.

I will see act 2 of III when I get the chance; meaning I'm not in a hurry!

I could never finish part 3, it was so bad imho. That being said... I don't know if this has been shared yet.

New Mega Zone 23 “G-PROJECT” [1] Announcement of the start of the New Mega Zone 23 reboot project “G-PROJECT”

Announcement of the start of the new Mega Zone 23 reboot project “G-PROJECT”

    Created in 1985,
"Mega Zone 23" still attracts many fans and sells many goods.
Our company will launch a new project again to reboot that work.
    Our company
was established as a company that inherited the copyrights including Megazone 23 from the former Anime International Company, Inc. (AIC) through a business split.
Since our company's establishment, many people, including staff members who like Megazone 23, staff
members who were influenced by it, and staff members who participated at the time,
have tried through trial and error to revive this project, but the
road has been slow . It's been a tough journey, and so far we haven't had any great results.
However, under a new system with a new president, various preparations have finally been completed, and we
will now restart the Megazone 23 Reboot Project.
This is all thanks to everyone's support and cooperation.

We are still in the preparation stages, but we hope to gradually release information on our progress on our website, YouTube, SNS, etc.
    We appreciate your continued support.

    Thanks for sharing!

I found III (at least act I) harder to get into.  I'm glad I never bought the DVD!

I think part 3 has amazing animation and cool designs, story wise I sorta feel like I’d have been happier not seeing it. It really brings me down. And without giving too much away, there is another major character that ties things together, but that’s part of why I didn’t like the story

That's the common consensus I'm getting about III, and I'm starting to see why.  When I initially asked in the other thread years ago, the gist I got was mixed feelings.  And if people liked it, it was pretty much lukewarm.

I wonder why they didn't just go with the original protagonists albeit years later after pt II.

  12. I recently watched for the umpteeth time, Megazone 23 pts I and II and still enjoyed it as I did the first time I saw them in the eighties.

FINALLY I got a hold of pt III (or as someone corrected me in HERE, Megazone 23 III) via youtube.

I just finished the first act.  What can I say?  It was just okay; unlike the first two where I was able to really get into the story, I wasn't as drawn to it.

I have yet to see the second act; I will still see it when I have the chance.

I asked in that thread if it was worth buying, I'm glad I didn't.

Eve seems to be the only one that connects the three OVAs.

    While I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't too wowed either.

Robotech? I know of no such creature. 😉

Foremost, thanks to Shawn and Graham for creating the site, keeping it updated, and assigning mod duties to a cadre of dedicated folks who keep the peace, among other assorted duties. It's a great place to visit, but I suggest you lean back, put your feet up, and stay awhile. As far as toy and hobby-based media forums go these days, this is about the most tranquil one you'll find. Keep your discourse civil, respect differing opinions (but don't be afraid to voice yours), share cool stuff, and enjoy the great community we have here.

Absolutely.  I miss the old traffic, but it's great to reminisce.  I'm glad even with less people, you guys try to keep the peace.

    I'll be around!

  14. Hey everyone, they didn't have this thread going when I initially signed up in July 2004, so here goes. . .

I live on the East Coast of the United States.

I have been an anime fan for almost forty year now! My first anime were Marine Boy and Speed Racer (Mach GO GO GO).

Then Star Blazers (Yamato), Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman), Voltron (GoLion), Tranzor Z (Mazinger), Robotech (Macross and MOSPEADA) and Cowboy Bebop.

I was an active member of the military.com forums for 15 years until they started to die out last year. I was a U.S. Marine for ten years!

I'm glad to see this forum is still active!
