Feb. 10/2008: Test version of DYRL extended is deleted from iMacross4 [final version is being encoded Feb.20] See weblinks in my signature. ******************************* Some obvious fixes have been done for dyrl ext v2, so if you see or hear something other than these fixes post a reply or send me a pm. Any other helpful suggestions would be appreciated. Words like "travesty" or "Uwe Boll of anime" don't help me much; funny though they may be. Anyways, the fixes already done for dyrl extended test version 2 are: 1. audio / video sound all synchronized. Harder than it sounds. FIXED 2. removed time cue title captions. When I was watching the movie for the fourth time, I then noticed that the movie has a timeline of 7 months from the beginning of seeing the zentraedi to then ending battle. So, the dyrl ext v1 has time captions. The captions look so-so because there is already enough to read. I have already taken them out for dyrl ext v2. FIXED 3. there's a zentraedi fleet zoom out clip from psx dyrl that doesn't quite work, but looks good. So, I'm not sure to keep it in. Deleted. FIXED. 4. I wonder if I could put a zentraedi scout ship zooming over my zentraedi fleet in orbit picture. Any suggestions for panning and zooming? I used ProShow Gold. I think I could have the scout ship composited in with the Womble video editor software. Done and FIXED 5. For the next couple of days, I am working/playing on a prologue for the dyrl ext v2, which takes the prologue from SDFtv ep1 and opening clips from Macros0 ep1, which pretty much explains the basic premise of the whole movie. I was thinking that with this kind of prologue DRYL would make sense from the get go, instead of starting the movie in a middle of a conversation among aliens or even the psx dyrl opening scene. DONE 6. ****aspect ratio problem on dyrl ext v1*** : womble video editor shows that the dyrl looks like it's fine as widescreen when I uncheck "maintain aspect ratio" in the preview video panel. So I unchecked "maintain aspect ratio" and encode the movie into an mpeg, but then I get a dyrl movie that has a black border on both top and sides?! I'm going to try cropping or panning the gray phantom dyrl v2 video by itself to get movie into the right widescreen aspect ratio and then subtitle again. That's for tomorrow though. (If even one video clip has "maintain aspect ratio" checked for video options, the movie's aspect ratio is off.) FIXED ***** *********************** I'll just finish up the dyrl ext prologue in a couple of days and test fitted with the dyrl ext movie for version 2. I would like to do a dyrl extended movie trailer and maybe a poster. By next weeked, I'll work on the "SuperSpace Fortress Macross: Clash of the Bionoids - Special Edition". So far, it's pretty easy to tell when I swap the vhs english audio with the japanese background soundtrack. Cool edit pro was suggested as a good audio editor. I think I'll take a look at some audio editing software to test out how better to upgrade the vhs english dyrl audio. I was thinking this macrossworld thread will be for Macross Fan Video Editing projects. So, if anybody's in to that sort of thing then they could post here: comments, suggestions or their own fan editing works in progress. I'm going to post a new thread for the Macross DYRL Extended DVD Cover Art contest. ****************************** Feb 17 Update: I have been working on the dyrl extended dvd cover for the last two days. I hope some other people will be able to find the time to put together a nice dvd cover too for the contest. Today, I snipped out a little bit of video from the dyrl extended and I am now realigning all the audio and video after the cut point. I still have to get the prologue subtitled. I spent 2 hours on subtitling and it was like the audio or video was different every time I went to check the timing. I'll finish it up tomorrow and then edit the prologue into the main movie and encode. The encoding will take a day or so. Then to upload the 700mb compressed movie to iMacross4 will take 2-3 days. At that point, I'll be working on finishing the dryl ext dvd and testing to see that the dvd works properly. By next weekend, I'll be plugging away at the dyrl english dub. That was more work than I thought: a little more than 5 months. I sure learned a lot. **************************8 Feb. 19/2008 1/3 of the way subtitling dyrl extended prologue. I found out that tmpeg can encode womble video edit files into mpeg files better than womble can, so I'm testing a video encode right now. That should be finished up tomorrow. Tmpeg video and womble audio are considered the best mix by fanedit.org members for dvd production. According to www.fanedit.org regulations, I have to have a title specifically made up for each fanedit movie so as not to get anybody confused with an official movie release. I'm about halfway done doing an opening fanedit title sequence with proshow gold software. So, I'm open to suggestions. I thought the SDF Macross logo with "More Macross Loving" was good, but then I put in "an extended dyrl fanedit" and the title now sounds so wrong. "I guess I forgot!" "That reminds me of something?" I just thought of one possible way with FrameShot software taking one frame from before and after the main movie title. Frameshot is better at getting snapshots than Videolan or Womble video editor. Proshow gold slideshow software is good for getting some motion from one still frame to another and turning the animated frames into an mpeg. Then I could take the fanedit title or the dvd cover title and matte it out in white with Paint.net. I was able to composite a zentraed scout ship, so using the slideshow mpeg of the sdf-1 and the cover title composited over the mpeg, I think that could work. I could use Nero Re encode to do a quick cut from the beginning fanedit titles, if I can get the main movie title working the way I would like. Almost there! FIXED AND DONE! I attempted to cover over the original dyrl title, but the snapshot either looked blurry or I could not get the pan to adjust right on with womble video editor. So, I didn't change the original title sequence. NEW MOVIE TITLE 4. I took out a psx dyrl zentraedi fleet zoom out shot that just didn't look right. 5. I moved the macross armd attack in a spot in the movie that fits. 6. TMPEG made a 6 GB one frame shot of dyrl, so I'm just using womble for encoding despite fanedit.org's suggestions. 7. Title is now : Super Dimension Fortress More Macross Loving: DRYL Extended FanEdit ***** 8. Right now, the mpeg encoding takes a day and then I will re encode the mpeg into a 700 mb avi to upload to iMacross4 by Friday. 9. Then the dvd preparation will take one day, so the dyrl extended dvd will be ready by Sunday! You're getting pretty good at making dvd covers so quickly. I'm still hacking away at video editing. I am going to repost in the Macross fanworks thread. So you can post there for the dvd cover contest.

Wow! That's a nice dvd cover by itself. I'm almost ready with the video, but the video needs a few fixes. I would like to put together a proper dvd cover and a dyrl extended trailer and maybe a poster. That would be a complete project. Then I can work on the bad english dub of dyrl. Hikaru's great english dubbed dyrl is expected to be out by August 2008. My movie extras for dyrl extended would be: 1. PSX DRYL footage from Macross 20th anniversary (full version of flashback 2012 is not included because I was thinking of submitting this dvd to fanedit.org) 2. Flashback 2012 : angel's paints video clips 3. DVD covers video from Macross world picture collection 4. DRYL Trailers from Macross 20th anniversary I will be uploading a 700 mb avi to imacross4. This video is for critque purposes only because one segment has an audio sych issue. Once the dryl extended is fixed as can be I will re upload as a avi file and a DVD. Problems to be fixed so far: 1. sdf main subtitles resized 2. maintain aspect ratio of all video clips 3. dissolves or wipes readjusted 4. fix ending credits : slight cut needed at beginning because I took this clip from the english dub. It has the only angel's paints karaoke I can find and the ending credits are in english. You will notice that Mari Iijima 's name is spelled Iizima. I'll see if I can extract the audio and re do the ending 5. audio resynch 6. touch up the subtitles to exclude 1,2,3,4 at end ************* imacross4 updates: Macross Miscellaneous has a couple of updates for pictures and books. DYRL folder has PSX dyrl footage with subtitled video files. ****************************** UPDATE: Locked out of Vista 64 bit ultimate desktop again! I was clicking on a weblink on the j rock macrossworld thread and hit a virus exploit, so my computer automatically rebooted to remove the virus! My dyrll upload was cut off and I can't get at re editing the dyrl extended. Now I am waiting for my desktop computer to reboot. Yesterday, this computer took 20-30 minutes to reboot! I have to check for viruses with more than one virus checker as soon as I can get my desktop working again. I should have stayed in bed, but I work nights and this is my day off. ****************** Re UPDATE I checked my motherboard BIOS desktop settings because I was waiting for windows to boot for over 1/2 hour and I found that Vista was trying to boot from the Speed boost USB memory stick. I switched to boot drives to cd-rom and hard drive and it works! Spybot is running and fixing a spyware thingy now and then I can get back to uploading and video editing. I thougth it was a virus or Ram memory problem or a motherboard chipset update or some finicky windows software that needed resetting. I will post again once I have the something uploaded.

Final Editing (It's hard to tell just now if I need to use different wipes for the extra footage or the audio is totally in synch. The video is pretty much in the order I would like it in.) Currently 7 1/2 hours = 17% encoded into mpeg ****I am going to re encode the dyrl extended mpeg into a 700 mb avi and upload to imacross4 for critiquing for improvement.***** dyrl extended avi available by Tuesday (I hope) 8************************ Update: Computer locked up at 30% encoding. I'm just looking at a Vista logon screen, while my desktop still has some hard drive activity. I'm on my laptop right now. I'll try waiting a day or so. If 17% takes 7 1/2 hours to encode an mpeg through womble video editor and 30% takes 14 hours then 100% will take about 45 hours. So, I'm looking at about 31 hours to go?

Macross Flashback 2012 with english subtitles ********************************* Gray Phantoms' and Hurin's subtitles have saved me a lot of time for dryl subtitling. So, by next weekend, I will be posting avi files of DYRL extended and english dub for comments and suggestions before uploading as dvds to imacross4. Next project would be Macross Pluss: more mecha action! Unless someone else is working on this type of fan edit.

I can think of one recent japanese anime TV series that was remade with better animation. BioBooster Armor Guyver in 2006 And then there's the Evangelion anime that was remastered, updated with director's cuts and now four new movies that remake the tv series into big budget films. The trailers of the evangelion movies look really good to me! So, why not the same high grade treatment with SDF: Macross? Remaster the audio to 5.1 or better with M zero/frontier quality animation of the same story line and it would be a winner to me. That's my opinion. ******** Another example would be Thunderbirds 2086 the 1982 anime is much better than the original Thunderbirds Anderson puppet series. You can see Thunderbirds 2086 on youtube and see for your self that remakes are not necessarily a bad thing. But, I make no excuses for Alien vs Predator.

I thought that if Big West could redo the animation, then the Macross sdftv would be completely under Big West's ownership and not the split with Tatsunoko and Harmony Gold.

I put together .srt subtitles for Macross Flashback on iMacross4. But, I'm not sure if the timing will work with this new Flashback dvd. The subtitles I have work fine with the Flashback video I currently have on iMacross4. Just click on the DYRL folder in my signature for the Flashback subtitles.

Well, I haven't finished a update of Hurin's subtitles to my version of dryl yet. Now, that I have the remastered dyrl in my hands, I was going to restart the subtitle work again. I'll see if I can get that Gray Phantom dyrl as a template. I can fix the Bodolza video glitch with womble mpeg video editor. Take out 3-4 frames of video and then take out 3-4 frames of silent audio after that scene. I think I can use Nero audio editor to filter out the audio pops, which I heard during the final battle. Do the audio "pops" happen on dvd players or just videolan computer software dvd players? Definitely 4 audio pops during the final battle scene. Does anybody know about reducing the graininess in womble mpeg or through video filters? I'll see if that Gray Phantom dyrl has any better video or audio.

At what point in the dryl movie is the bodolza glitch. I think you mean there's this blank spot at 1 hour 44 minutes from an exterior to a long wideview of Boldoza's fortress. This blank spot is also on the bandai non remastered. It might be fixable if someone re edited the movie.

Wow! Today, I just picked up the remastered dyrl dvd from the post office and the picture quality is amazing. Now my problem is that I'm at 54 minutes into subtitling dyrl extended edition movie for the 2nd time, which has taken me 4 weeks to get to this point, and here's an even better dyrl to subtitle again. Do I keep going with dyrl that's good, but not the best for video quality? hmmm. I better take a nap before I go to work and think about it. The psx dyrl clip with the armd attack has been slightly edited and placed at the Saturn battle scene, which seems to work okay. Then I'm going to take the remaining bit from that psx clip of the zentraedi fleet and trim and reverse the scene and see if I can put that somewhere in the movie. The longer I take to do the subtitles, the more special features I get on this dvd. I'm going to redo the dvd cover eventually as well to make it look more like a real dvd release. ******************************** Update: (Jan. 10/08) Never mind a preview. I left windows update on automatic, microsoft windows closed my programs and restarted my computer without saving anything. All my video edits for the last 3 days have been erased from the womble dyrl file. )(*)(#@$@# de culture! Womble video editor does not have a "save function", so I can work on two projects at a time. Womble just saves whatever work I was doing at that time automatically, so when I open Womble then there's where I left off. Not this time. My womble preview file has also been corrupted, since I was in the middle of re encoding. It's like every time I get close to finishing this edit up the way I would like to see it, something screws up my work. It's been three months of always something unexpected happening that gets in the way. I want to get this done and go on to the next project: dyrl english edition. ************************ Update: (Jan. 20/08) I just needed a break for a little while (birthday, family, friends, cleaning up apartment, dentist appointment). I was getting frustrated. Womble video editor software does have a save function and I can work on two or more video edits at a time! G_P DYRL video needs to prepared for avi without sound and subtitled. I am going to see if I can re time G_P's .ass subtitles and hard encode them into an .avi file with autogk because they look so nice. So, basically I am restarting the extended edition again, but I can work on the english dyrl when I get tired of working on the extended. The english audio still has some fuzziness after re doing the audio filter with audacity. I am going to patch the latest audio non speaking parts with the english audio. The loudness differences might be adjustable with the "normalization function" on womble software. G_P's subtitles will come in handy for Mari's songs on the english dryl. Once I finish up, I will post an .avi file for comments and suggestions before I finally encode the finished movies into dvd format.
