  1. Personally, I think it's ridiculous that you have to pay a subscription to play a game online... I can understand, like someone else said, paying for access to the online arena of games, but then you have to pay an extra fee per game?! That's lame... Especially when people have been playing online games for years for free on the PC (minus ISP fees).

I look at it this way... I have SO many bills per month, and now I'm asked to add another one to play a game?? Is it cheaper than going to the arcade used to be? I used to be able to play a game for an hour or so on $.50.... How does this compare?

So here is the bill breakdown for the month:

    Electric

    Water

    Phone (land line)

    Cell Phone

    Cable

    Car Insurance

    Mortgage (that's a big one)

Credit card (gotta buy toys :p )

    Internet Access

    Food

    Gas

    Home owners insurance

    Line of Credit Loan

    Home Depot

Look at all this CRAP!! SHEESH... And now if I want XM-Radio... another $12 a month... I want to play online games.... another what? $10, $15, $20 a month?!

Wow... I went off on a rant.... sorry.

Not to turn this into a PS2 live vs Xbox live post but look at it this way -

With the Xbox you don't have to buy a network adapter which is basically the same cost as subscribing for a year. IT's a pain but it's no worse than the MMORPG monthly fees out there.

Godzilla - I'm quite enjoying ESPN. I rotate every year between Madden and 2K. The passing isn't that bad and I wonder if you're hitting the pass buttons too quickly. You can pump-fake using the pass buttons and sometimes it screws up and pump-fakes for you if you don't press the button correctly.

It's 'only' $19.99 so why not? I bet you could probably find it used somewhere for cheap.

  2. It's using the BF1942 engine, isn't it?

And for some reason, that picture with the guys in costume playing it cracks me up.

:p I would be the knuckle head in the biker scout outfit playing Battlefronts. I belong to a costume group called the 501st Legion, who has chapters all over the world. We dress up as the villians from the Star Wars films for media and service events.

The Bay Area chapter and my group from the Sacramento dressed up for a Lucas Arts media promotions for video game press. The funny thing is that all of us were hesitant to play the game at first as we did not want to be unprofessional (ie we were there to work and not fool around). However, Lucas Arts staff and reporters thought it would be cool to have those in costumes play out the characters in the video game. Along with event for Lucas Arts, our group also did a little play acting for an Electric Playground piece. Check out the following links.

Aren't you a little short for a Storm Trooper?

  3. Ugh... I think I'm going to have to wait until I get a new system... doubt my PIII 933 will be able to handle this. So many PC games coming out (or have come out), such a crappy computer. Well, I did just 'upgrade' my Xbox to a new TV so I guess that's my fault.

Warhammer, LOTR, Rome, Sims 2, Doom, Pirates! All games on my list but not wanting to buy until I get a system that's more powerful than my Xbox.

  4. Ugh. Zahn should be forbidden from touching anything else Star Wars. Man needs to be hit with a bat everything he thinks about it to beat the idea of writing Star Wars out of him.

Sorry... I have to side with my man Jaymz up there. Zahn is the bomb. He's the only Star Wars author who has made new characters as interesting or even more interesting than some in the original trilogy.

  5. that was because of the mutation spores that he was infected with, he is not actually a snake, seeing as how he has a son, at least in the comics anyway

Right.. .that's what totally screwed me up (the comics and his son who was supposed to kill him)... and the snake thing? Whatever dude. Now I know what a crack head feels like.

  6. ^^^ Yeah, I've got it on video but our VCR isn't even at home... it's in my wife's classrom. The thing that bothered me about the movie was ***SPOILER ALERT*** - -like anyone cares

the part when Cobra commander took off his mask and he was a snake dude.

Talk about taking a cool villian and making him whacked.

  7. I used to work for Jeff Parks, prior to his move to the Dallas area. I was his padiwan learner! I spent 1 1/2 years building lightsabers and other starwars related items, stormtrooper blasters, Han Solo blasters, and going to fan conventions to sell them. Jeff is a great guy and I can tell you for a fact that his lightsabers are the best quality that is humanly possible. Jeff spent literally ALL of his time working to improve his product over any other. So please, if you are considering buying a lightsaber, look at his products! He also does custom work. Just as a side note Jeff is a huge startrek fan, loves the Aliens movie, The Fifth Element, but for some strange reason loves the movie Tucker.

    Thanks,

    marimba AKA Jedi Master Christopher

Question Marimba - How 'rich' are the colors on Parks' sabers? I have a MR Luke ROTJ one and my biggest complaint is that the green is not nearly as dark as the greens in the pictures. How are the parks ones?

I do like that the blade is removable too (parks).

Perhaps when Ep III comes out I might pull the trigger on one.

  8. From what I understand, it basically uses the BF1942 engine. It sounds like it is in 3rd person, hence the SOCOM comparison.

I'm tempted to get this for the Xbox depending on the execution. I'm a bit worried it'll be full of lamers who team kill. Perhaps I shouldn't worry and just get it.

    -- Question --

How many players could play / time on the console version you played?

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Besides, by the time of episode IV, with no Jedi left to fight, it would probably be cheaper to use subjigated citizens as soldiers.

That's one thing that's disappointed me about the Stormtroopers=clones information. Logically, if you were a dictator of an expansive empire, you'd almost certainly WANT to draw upon your population for the army, whether be it from direct draft or making it seem like the 'cool' thing to do.

First of all, you eat up a good chunk of the energetic, able bodies young men (and maybe women) who are bound to be a troublemaking part of the population. Secondly, you then get to all but brainwash them through drills and emphasizing the 'nobility'of their cause and loyalty to their nation. Thirdly, you can glorify the military to the point where those who don't serve are considered less worthy and even unfit to hold office or even be listened to, which weakens the effect of dissidents who don't go 'through the system'. Fourthly, you're providing jobs and pay to the lower classes of the population. Fifthly, you're making anyone who rebels forced to fight their own sons, nephews, and husbands, which can easily eat at their heart.

I could go on, but my point is that by making your army an outside entity with no attachment to the populace, you strip all that away. You provide no extra jobs, you let the young and reckless run rampant, you alienate the people from their troops, giving them no incentive to root for them or reason to not kill your men. All you have is fear and while time has proven again and again from the earliest days to the present that fear can control and manipulate the masses, it's not deep rooted and can easily be overturned if the people are ever given something to doubt the validity of what they fear.

So it's not entirely logical that the Emperor would employ clones in the OT. Then again, it's also not logical that someone would hire a thug that can't accurately shoot someone who's sitting across the table, so I suppose it fits in the Star Wars universe...

As far as I know, the Storm Troopers are no longer clones. This is mostly addressed in the Zahn books in that most of the clone chambers were destroyed sometime before the OT. There are also references to conscripting soldiers in one of the crappier books... either the Dark Saber or the one where Leia is engaged to someone. ... some ship that 'conscripts' soldiers goes wonky and starts conscripting local species to the Emperor's forces.

Also, they give Stormtroopers names in the OT (Davin Felth).... I wonder if clones have names or numbers (hence the old rumors that Obi Wan was a clone - OB-1).

Finally, there are some short stories written from an imperial perspective which mention the academy.

Regarding Greedo, were his poor shooting skills ever addressed in a short story or a comic? I remember Solo taking his jacket in a short story when they were younger and maybe them mentioning how crappy a shot he was... in fact, if memory serves correctly, he was a horrible bounty hunter who nobody took seriously.

I look at it like I look at Leia and Amidala being great shots... why not?
