  1. I loved Black Hawk Down. Alien Was great, and I loved Gladiator despite the historical inaccuracies. Scott is the man. Can't wait to see the new movie.

Gladiator used a historical context only as a setting and to grant the film some dramatic grounding. The film was intended to be period fiction only, never a biopic or historical retelling. Very important distinction.

granted. but if you make a movie about the American Revolution, and start off about how George Washington and Alexander Hamilton wanted to form a workers utopia to escape from the clutches of Bourgeoise Great Britain in accordance with the writings of Marx, which hadn't happened yet, its not a good setting. Nothing against Gladiator, but the concept of "freedom" and "democracy" were not things that a Roman Emperor, especially Aurelius, would have been talking about.

  2. I just saw Kindom of Heaven and after the last 3 or four turds would not be keen to see Ridley Scott direct another movie much less another Alien Movie.

While his early films where amazing his new films are amazingly boring and dumb. They are spectacular to look at but I want to see a story not a three hour cinematographers reel.

You really didn't like Black Hawk Down and Gladiator? I thought there was plenty of story to go around on both of those films.

  3. and I loved Gladiator despite the historical inaccuracies.

I was never under the impression it was supposed to be historical. I wouldn't put it in the same category like Braveheart, which claims to be historical yet is wildly inaccurate.

I always thought if you set a movie in a historical setting, then its historical. Sure, maybe Maximus Decimus Meridius never actually existed, but Marcus Aurelius did, and so did Commodus. Marcus Aurelius was not killed by his son. He did not want to give power to the senate. Rome never conquered all of Germania. Commodus died wrestling in his residence. He was actually a pedophile, not incestuous (although, both are really disgusting).

If you look at a movie like Master and Commander, it is plausible that these things could have happened. Again, Jack Aubrey never existed, but he could have at least fit into the story. On the other hand, movies like Braveheart are an example of how not to do a historical movie. Like i said, I loved Gladiator, but there were somethings i saw wrong with the background of the story.

  4. If I recall from his Yung-blud days he actually illustrated (stolen) an illustration of the Garland and called it his own. Also in the pages of the fourth or fifth ish of Gen13 I saw what looked like a two seater Landmate. Can anybody back me up on this(with pics) or am I just crazy :huh: ?

liefeld never did gen 13. J Scott Campbell and Jim Lee did the art on that book for about the first 22 issues.

  5. Gambit is rumored to be in the next movie. If I recall, I read that the rumor came straight from Singer himself.

yeah, but i hope now that Sniger is gone, that they still decide to use him. he can come in and woo Anna Paquin away from Iceman. :D

We also need to see some Emma Frost coming into spice Scott's life up a bit....

  6. hmmm... Robin in his old costume... Dick Grayson?

Lee's buildings are getting a lot better since he started drawing Batman.

Yes, it's indeed Richard "Dick" Grayson. DC's All-Star line will be continuity free stories told with iconic interpretations. In All-Star Batman & Robin, it'll re-tell the origin of the Dynamic Duo set in the modern world. There will also be a All-Star Superman series that'll be a close match to his "Silver Age" counterpart.

The All-Star Superman books are being done by Grant Morrison (WE3, New X-men) and Frank Quitely (New X-Men, the Authority). should be pretty awesome.

  7. What happened to the male Hawk? and what HAPPENED TO DOVE? (she looks totally different now). I should pick up Teen Titans and see what's going on there.

the Male Hawk turned evil in one of the big crossovers, and turned to extant in the Zero Hour crossover. I think hes dead now....

  8. ttv3_kids1front.jpg

Starfire and Cyborg are the oldest of the Titans in this pic. Both probably in their 20's. Robin alludes to that in one of the issues. Remeber, she had previously been involved with/engaged to Nightwing (Dick Grayson). Cassie (Wonder Girl), on the other hand is still a teenager (16-18).

  9. i could understand only DC giving this guy work, but Marvel does the same bloody thing. He wrapped an X-force mini, and i think he's "writing" a Shatterstar mini....

....and for the record, Adam Warren wrote a hell of a Gen 13 run, before the canned it to give crappy Claremont his shot.

  10. I agree, except that the CK was not Roland's nemesis. Flagg was. And Mordred took care of him. Either way, Roland was cheated out of his revenge. As for the Gun leaving, doesn't Roland get both Guns when he reappears in the Desert? plus, he once again has all his fingers.

One thing that did disappoint me was that Jack Sawyer and his new wife did not factor into the end of this story. If Jack and the Bikers from Black House did not set the breakers free, who did they set free? i thought those kids were breakers. maybe Jack freed them from breaking another beam....

  11. Hile gunslingers, the clearing is before me say thankya, I was just wondering if we were ready to palaver over the ending of the tale or if should I keep the spoilers to myself?

Hile, sons and daughters of Gilead!!!

    Spoilers, big time baby....

So, this is the clearing at the end of the path?? wow. i have to say i enjoyed this book, but it was by far one of the saddest books i have ever read. first eddie, then jake, and lastly Oy. damn, all three were stabs in the heart. plus, the scene where Roland bids Susannah goodbye was absolutely tragic. One can only wonder where this story would have gone had King not been hit by that van. i didn't so much mind his part in this book after all. it seems like it belonged. what i want to know is how did Roland escape Jericho Hill? It only seems right that Roland keep wandering, and also that Susannah finds Jake and Eddie waiting for her through the artist's door. it made me happy for her, but you have to wonder, who will Roland find when he next comes upon the doors? i doubt it will be those three again. i guess they have reached the end of their paths. its pretty sad to think it will be a long time before Roland sees them again in the clearing. Overall, I enjoyed this book, even though it was a truly heart wrenching experience. even after Susannah finds Eddie and Jake again, i still felt for Oy, and hoped he finds them too. Its been a great ride, I love these books and the Ka-tet of 19.

Besides, maybe if he does it enough, Roland can find happiness. maybe Gilead remade, maybe Susan unburned?? As sad as the ending is, there is still hope for Roland, i think.

Long Days and Pleasant nights!!! Say Thankya!!!

  12. The game is friggen fantastic. When you zoom in on a squad of marines beatin' the hell out of a bunch of xenos scum, it's pure beauty. When the Space Marine Force Commander smacks an Eldar Farseer with his Thunder Hammer and the shockwave sends the Faseer's entire retinue flying, it's sheer poetry! FOR THE EMPEROR! :D

".....And they Shall know no fear". Adeptus Astartes forever!!

  13. Well, I picked up the first TPB of Sin City after work today and I'll give it a read. If I really enjoy it, I'll get "A Dame To Kill For" and "The Big Fat Kill" next. Thanks for the information everyone.

    Guppy,

I've read Batman Year One and I've also read The Dark Knight Returns twice. TDKR is an excellent book. I've also read Watchmen, which is another fine story. And yes, I've read Miller's now famous run on Daredevil (this was my first exposure to Miller). THanks for the suggestions.

I've heard the Dark Knight Strikes Again was mediocre at best, so it hasn't been a priority. Right now, I'm looking forward to the finish of Straczynski's Rising Stars this October, November, and January.

    Blaine23,

If I like the first Sin City, I'll probably check out the others. I must admit, just the title for the 4th series sounds hilarious :)

Buy 300. you won't be sorry.

  14. The Clearing is upon us!!!

Dark Tower VII comes out next week. buy it and read it, or have ye forgotten the faces of your fathers, damn your eyes?!!

looking forward to this one big time. this is it. the last one.

Did anyone else ever read the Song of Susannah??

  15. I would say read the original Sin City first, then A Dame to Kill for and The Big Fat Kill. I have not read That Yellow Bastard, Family Values or Booze, Broads and Bullets, But i really liked the first three, so check em out first.

Also, Try 300 if you haven't. that is one awesome book. its about the battle of Thermopolyae in 481 BCE, and its freaking great. I head they're thinking of adopting this one into a film as well.
