  2. Together with the Toynami Regult, the VF-1S is probably my favorite Macross toy. Still holding on to the hope that the Hi-Metal YF-21 and YF-19 will get released someday...

To my great surprise, I noticed that HLJ actually has the VF-1S back in stock in case anyone is interested: http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN961438

  3. Last time I checked these were actually really cheap at HLJ. Check out the "HLJ Yamato Sale" thread. Not sure if it's still going on, though.

HLJ's sale is over. Best place to buy them is from AmiAmi: LINK

Scroll down a bit and all three VF-22S are there. Don't be afraid to place a back order with AmiAmi if you want the Max, they tend to fill them within a few days!

  4. No news of the YF-21 at all since they showed that prototype. So it's kind of good news because at least they haven't officially canceled it (which would likely be a death sentence for the YF-19 as well), but the silence is also unsettling. Just going to have to wait and see, maybe we'll get some new information with this year's toy shows.

  5. One foot on my VF-1S is nice and tight, but the other was loose enough that I could pop it off the ball joint without much trouble. What I did was just take the foot off, put a single drop of super glue inside the joint cup, then I reattached it to the ball and just wiggled the foot around til the super glue dried. Worked perfectly, glued foot is just as good (if not a bit better) than the other one.

  6. Got the Battle in Space two pack this evening as well. My first experience with these molds, so I was really looking forward to it. Rodimus is nice, but not as nice as the Generations Red Alert I picked up the day before; he's kinda short and the articulation in his arms is pretty limited. Cyclonus on the other hand is wonderful! His robot mode in particular is just gorgeous, with wonderfully effective light piping.

Definitely be sure to study the figures in their boxes very carefully though, almost all the sets in the store had very obvious stress marks on Rodimus' arms. I cherry picked the best one, but had to put up with a very crooked rub sign on Rodimus (some time with a hair dryer fixed that, though).

  7. Nice pics Keiichi!

The big draw of the HiMetal for me (aside from its great looks in all 3 modes and articulation) is definitely Toynami's Regult figure. Just thinking of all the cool battle scenes one can set up with a Hi Metal and a few Toyami's Regults made this thing a must have for me.

Thanks! The Regult was a major reason behind my purchase of the Hi-Metal as well, but it also worked the other way around! I'd known about the Regult, and thought it looked great, but I didn't have anything in scale with it so I passed on getting one. Not a big fan of the VF-1J, so when the Hi-Metal of that was released, I wasn't interested. The news of the VF-1S with Strike parts, however, really caught my attention and when it was finally released I kept waffling about whether or not to get it. Then I remembered, the 1/100 Toynami Regult! That instantly sealed the deal for me so I ordered the Hi-Metal and a Regult the same day  . Just in the nick of time too, as the regular Regult appears to be pretty much sold out everywhere now.

  8. called it... http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=28836&view=findpost&p=888551... they should have at least included the strike cannon option. these are DYRL valks after all.

Wonder if they'll include a special box with Kakizaki's set . Do they specifically say they aren't including a strike cannon part? The pictures could just be representing the proper DYRL load out (1As weren't outfitted with strike cannons, after all).

  9. I bought the VF-22S Max yesterday. Always held off cause it was so expensive, but couldn't pass up with 50% off! Not sure if I'll get the Millia or the Gamlin, have to see how well I like Max and then wait for another sale.

For what it's worth, Millia is my favorite out of all three. Just something about the red they used for her, combined with the white highlights makes it look great to me. Gamlin's is cool as well, but he feels a bit plain since he only has yellow highlights around the engine and the grey areas blend in with the dark blue of his valk. More importantly he doesn't pair as well with Max .

  10. I took apart the cockpit on my Milia and you were right Keiichi, the problem of the non locking nosecone was caused by that screw sticking out a bit too much. I just gave it a turn and it was back in place, and now the nosecone goes down all the way and locks perfectly. Thanks a lot for the advice!

Glad it worked out for you!

    @troyness

I got pictures for you and Loop! First, some 'before' pictures:

    006kulq.jpg

Notice how Max can only look straight ahead, while Millia can turn to the side, this is because the cockpit section on Millia is pulled down farther, creating more clearance and exposing the 'neck.' Furthermore, as a result of this Millia is able to lock her nose section in place, while Max's won't.

    009om.jpg

    Compared to Max:

    008iup.jpg

Well, let's get to work and open Max up to see what's wrong. Here is the first set of screws you need to remove (there's one on the opposite side of the cockpit as well). These screws secure tiny 'arms' that hold the cockpit down while allowing it to move up and down for the transformations:

    011nf.jpg

With those screws removed, you can pop the 'arms' off their pegs and lift the cockpit section a bit more. This allows you to get at the next set of screws. Again, there are two screws (with one circled in the picture). These are the most difficult to remove/replace due to their awkward position:

    014dg.jpg

Removing these screws allows you to remove the cockpit fuselage and get at the source of the problem. The circled screw is the one that may be sticking out too far and preventing the cockpit section from being pushed down far enough:

    017jl.jpg

As you can see from this next set of photos, the screw on this Max is actually fine, it sits flush inside its screw hole. The circled grey block was just really tight so I needed to use more force to push it down  . But, notice where the screw sits when the block has been properly pushed in; obviously if that screw were sticking out you wouldn't be able to get the cockpit to push in all the way:

    025qa.jpg

    027m.jpg

"Keiichi, you idiot," you're thinking, "you probably just needed to use more force on your other VF-22S' too!" Well, I may be an idiot, but I'm not stupid! ...or something  . Here is why I was reluctant to use more force. The screw on the left is the one taken from Max at the problem area, while the screw on the right was taken from Millia in the same spot. Note how much larger the head of Millia's screw is, it will NOT sit flush inside the screw hole. I removed the same screw from Gamlin's VF-22S:

    024nv.jpg

So basically, the wrong sized screw was used on Millia and Gamlin. As a result, the head of the screw was poking out and stopping the cockpit from being pushed all the way in. Unlike Frogze, I was not able to screw the screw further in, the head was just too large. So, I just took the screw out, and everything still functions perfectly well. Once you've confirmed the problem, just put everything back together, here is a reference shot of how the cockpit armor needs to be positioned when reassembling:

  11. still looking for jazz and tracks

Sorry I sold off my spares before you got a chance to reply to my PM! Was going to be passing the post office on Sat. morning so I really wanted to get a buyer ASAP to save on time/gas. I think I may stop by Target tomorrow to try to pick up another set, if I'm only able to find one of the pair, would you still be interested?

    PM received :).

  12. Picked up a Jazz also! Definitely check Target if you're looking for him, as mine was packed with all the Reveal the Shield stuff. My Jazz had a really really nasty sprue mark on the top of his head. I sanded it down then colored in the white plastic with a gundam marker, haha, worked out pretty well.
