Maybe one of the economic PhDs could see how much a Yamato 1/72 YF-19 would cost in 2016 dollars. And again, bright side, maybe a renewal or improved version will come out sooner vs. later/never.
-b.
I do think about it from a business perspective.
As I recall the Yamato's in 2000 were sold for USD 90. Correct me if I'm wrong.
In today's dollars at 2% inflation that would be USD 124.
Price was not the barrier for me back then, the issue was the design: The old 1/72 Yamato's looked floppy from the start.
I never bit until 1/60 V2 came out.
The same issue applies here with Evolution. MSRP of USD 200, while a bit much, is not the main barrier to general collectors like me. The problem is that the design is just way too outdated for anyone but a die-hard collector.
And manufacturing is more costly these days. So unless Evolution have huge production numbers, I don't see how they could sell for much less.
I think Evolution were betting on success with a niche product with low production numbers for avid collectors.
They have no one to blame but themselves if they end up breaking the bank. Transforming valks have become so advanced that only the foolhardy would enter that market, without the right staff.
But if they sell their units and turn a profit, good for them. It's a business after all.

Great podcast.
You had some very eloquent and insightful guests. I will leave podcasting to the pros from now on.
But no feedback from any ladies? It was all guys!

The sad thing, if this is a shelf warmer, is that Bandai and Arcadia will look at it and say there is no money to be made with Macross 2 and they will forsaken the license for the next 5 to 20 years.
However the presale numbers seemed to be high enough to warrant several releases of the VF-2SS. So it seems there is an interest there. If this comes from the retailers that think that a Macross 2 Valkyrie will sell as well as other high-priced Macross PT items no matter the quality/manufacturer or the fans that preordered enough units I cannot tell.
Based on my what I know about production runs and breaking even, I doubt that the presale numbers are what is justifying several releases.
In this case the recolors allow them to manufacture basically the same toy with different color schemes.
So if they need 3,000 to 5,000 total units to break even and make some profit, they can divide that up over several colors.

I wonder what the production run is for the Regult, Glaug and Monster.

Dying to see a review of this.
But that box art, ouch!
-
Very smooth dremelling. Which tips did you use for that finish?
-
Fantastic event coverage as always.

I assume it is pre painted, Max has not been doing garage kits these days.
So would the 1/20 Minmay be a kit or a figure?
Strange scale.

let's give credit where credit is due, it looks like a toy from 1992, not 1982.

Agree. I stand corrected.
But I am developing an unhealthy attachment to this thing anyway.
Kind of like you would for someone you're dating, and you know its not right, but they're all you got, and maybe you're all they got. Sigh...

This is such a throwback, and not in a good way.
It looks like it was manufactured in 1982.
But if I had money to burn, I would get it and pretend its an old Hi Metal.

Looks cool.
Have you done something like this before to show us?

the monster has always been adorable. it just wants to be hugged.
I agree. I would smooch the monster. But not puckering for a Regult.

Great packaging.
If they follow Perfect Memory, it should look nice.
I've read a lot of complaints here about it not being line art accurate here.
But I don't have an eye for that.

No way does that Obari rendering transform.

I couldn't wait for Arcadia...I just payed a pretty penny to add a second one to my collection...probably my last big Macross purchase for a while...well, at least until the Hi-Metal R Glaug drops

Hey Old Man, How were the shoulders?

He said regarding this Valk being missing from his collection.
-b.
Are you gauging in a sense you're associated with Arcadia?
No.
But I will give you food for thought... I was in toy distribution and I tracked down the Arcadia side seller.
In order to buy wholesale from them, I had to take 100 units of each type. Which I balked at.
So there you go.

I want a toilet made of solid gold.
Which you would sell for more toys to review, right?
-
Feel free to add a poll, I'm tech challenged.
-
Darn, for a second there, I thought it was a SDF Southern Cross battle suit.
Would love to see a pro go at that kit.
-
How many would be interested?
Or am I the only one missing it from my collection.
-
If its as good as CMS Legioss, I'm all in.

Thanks JV. Much appreciated.

It's those details that make it pop. And no worry about scratches since there's no transformation.
This is where Bandai excels. Pure Gokin.
