  1. Received mine from Mykombini. They had good service and good shipping price. Although I made a mistake in the shopping cart, they cancelled it immediately. Its good to have another option in the market. I just wonder if they will learn to give more pre-order discounts in the future to compete with Amiami and HLJ, or if they will go the Nippon Yassan route with mark-ups.

  2. Hey Arbit. I'm not sure since I've only used those on canvas many years ago. But since you're using it on a small figure and it's acrylic, I say try it out. Acrylic is pretty easy to remove. The important thing is to get a good base/primer to have the paint stick to and will stick to the plastic first. I wouldn't use a medium made for canvas for that. You need something specific to plastic or resin or even metal. Depending on what you are painting.

    Thanks Exo,

I'm just trying to track down an affordable set of paints that will work for figures.

    Any recommendations?

  3. For me it's not the plastic quality or finish that is the deal breaker, its the poor locking of the tabs in fighter mode.

I'll try clear nail polish on this at the weekend and see if it helps.

Makes sure you let the polish harden for 24 hours.

In any case I find that the polish ends up crumbling.

The best long term solution is a clear gloss paint on those tabs.

  4. Here is a "venting my disappointment"...video I did last week when I received this lovely Vf-2SS."... For anyone still undecided, might help you make your mind up. ( at least for collector who like the VFs in Fighter mode...). No transformation.

As I had filmed it I though I might as well post it.

    Whatever....here it is:

Only thing that was done to the Vf when it was filmed was the panel lines.... Have since started putting decals etc (not using the crappy stickers included with it...they are huge!!! Made for a 1/55! Not 1/60....). It's already starting to look a bit better.

With a bit of luck though, looks like the price will go down drastically...I'll then pick up 1 or 2 just for 'painting fun'. -_-

Thanks for the review. Your Macross Factory looks great. Is it a custom of the Kotobukiya base, or just painted? Could you provide a link to more images?

  5. Well the "movie version" was what I rented on Amazon, which was just all the episodes put together (as each one still had title screens before it). All the normal dialog was in English, but the Mardok alien language was subbed and the music was all sang in Japanese with subtitles. Their wasn't any other audio or subtitle options for it on my Roku through Amazon Prime video, which I was fine with as I watched it all in one sitting, and reading that much subs would have tired me out!

Cool. But for Mac II, it is so much better subbed. Give it another go some day.

  6. So after reading this thread from the get go, I finally rented Mscross 2 on Amazon over the weekend and watched it to see what all the hype is about. I thought it was ok, better than Zero IMHO, but hey, to each their own. It wasn't great, but the plot was descent. Didnt like it enough to want this line of Valks, but I'm happy for those who are getting these and filling a hole in their collections!

Did you watch it dubbed or subbed?

  7. you should go to bed a bit early , set your alarm at 2am , wake up , place per-order then go back to sleep. If you are a heavy sleeper, then you can drink some water before going to bed. B))

I've learned a lot from my fellow MWers', but that's a first.

  8. Ugh, I should stop looking at this thread, it's making me wish I'd preordered the bad guys...

    Don't...need...another...scale!

Personally, I don't mind mixing scales. 1/60 for valks, 1/100 for grunt mecha. Best of both worlds.

  9. Question for you guys with great eyes, how close is this final Monster to what was shown in the Tamashii Exhibits?

Curious to know if the remaining Destroids will look the same as shown, or if there will be big adjustments.

  10. I'm so glad I skipped on the Revoltechs and the Toynamis. For me, this are the Regults to have (of course there was Yamato's, but that was another league entirely).

I love my Revoltech Regult, but can't wait to upgrade to HMR.

People mention Yamato Regults, never seen one.

  11. As a Gen Y/Millennial myself, yeah I did find Macross Plus to be pretty shallow. The animation was gorgeous and the soundtrack was great but everything else was pretty meh. I've met plenty of other fans around my age group that feel the same way so Tochiro does speak the truth.

I can understand that. But in its day, Plus was way ahead of the curve. It was literally unbelievable. We had never seen animation like that, even in Hollywood action movies.

But I have seen younger guys spoiled by abundant CG that see it as a pretty normal action movie.

However, the music is something that even you young folk can't complain about.

It's all about your perspective. I showed Honneamise to an art student in Columbia University and he was like, meh, then when I told him it was made by a bunch of amateurs, he was like, "oh, in that case, show me that again, weren't there art backgrounds in every scene"!

  12. Bottom line, people have different opinions.

For example, I think Macross Plus is God's gift to entertainment.

    Someone else might hate it.

But what is valuable to me and what I believe makes the forum valuable, is to get a clear analysis of why they hate it, not just one-liners or disparaging remarks discounting other views.

Another example, I'm not big on 7. But when I heard your podcast discussing how true Basara is to his ideals, how unwavering to his beliefs, I was truly moved to a higher level of appreciation for the show in retrospect. (But still not gonna rewatch it all. I'm no masochist).

  13. It was simply a question----when we mods find pages and pages of rants about "magical girls ruining the franchise" in many threads about Delta, then the podcast is like the opposite of that, it does seem odd in a way.

I mean----what if the podcast had asked about Plus or DYRL, and like everyone hated it? It'd be very "unexpected based on what is usually seen in the forums".

I recall that in the first podcast following the Delta preview, several of the guys flat out said they didn't like it, and the other half said they did.

On other forums here I was concerned that Delta would really polarize the fans, with everyone at each others throats.

Doesn't make for a fun forum if people don't respect opposite opinions.

Whether you hate Delta or love it, I hope everyone will be able to express themselves without personal attacks.

I hope moderators will watch out for that.

  14. Nope, not at all. That's all the responses we got, in their unedited form.

Perhaps it is illustrative of this forum skewing towards a certain demographic and not being an accurate representation of fans of Macross and anime in general?

    Just a thought.

You might find that fans of the podcast are not the exact makeup of the Macross forum as a whole.

It's something I've noticed that different forums on Macross World have totally different regular visitors and different vibes.

Also, some people speak totally differently in person than they would when they are on social media.

For example, I've heard many articulate fair minded people in person, but give them a keyboard and they are ripping people's heads off!

My point is, I think many more are positive or willing to give Delta a chance than appears from Forum individual posts, which may be reactions to pet peeves. There is a survey on the forums which indicates haters are not the majority.

Take myself as an example, I respect Kawamori as a visionary designer, I fan gush about Macross, I'm gonna do my utmost to like Delta, but at the same time, a magic girl is a magic girl is a magic girl...

  15. Question for our garage kit specialists, since Evo is clearly a small company, one might even say an overgrown garage kit firm.

I see garage kits like "Experten" go for USD 500.

And people get all excited about his new releases.

Personally, I know nothing about garage kits at all.

But how would the quality of this figure stack up against those garage kits people rave about and are willing to plonk down any amount of money for?
