Baka Updates has 'em, for one.

Personally, I don't feel the need for anything "significant" to happen in the first place. Moreso than a lot of other prequels, anime or otherwise, Pailsen Files seems like a natural extension of the already labyrinthine conspiracy of the original. We have the same protagonist, portrayed the same way we saw him in the original series, the same mecha and art design, and even featuring some of the same music. In fact, if it weren't for the much improved animation, you'd be hard pressed to differentiate this from the original. It's not really about adding anything significant to the Votoms story, it's just more of it. I view it in the same vein as the rest of the OVAs: Some other neat stuff that happens to Chirico.

Episode 7 of Pailsen Files is up for download. This time out, Chirico & Co come under sniper fire when their transport aircraft makes a crash landing. Coincidence? I think not!

Macross Frontier Episode 11 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
bsu legato replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Personally, if it wouldn't violate the shows internal logic in about a dozen different ways, I would love to see that. See also: My forthcoming Zentraedi fanfic The Boys From B'rzjll. -
Pretty much. It's as if everybody was on auto-pilot for this one. On the bright side, that "Complete Making Of" book rocks. Hard. If any of you have seen the "Making of Star Wars" from last year, this is pretty much the same deal. A full third of the book is devoted to Raiders, with the remainder divided up amongst the following three films. Great stuff.

Aliens Vs. Predator 2 Script and Movie Review
bsu legato replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Has anyone checked out the XTREEEEEME Edition DVD yet? -
You guys do realize that Winston not only co-founded Digital Domain with James Cameron, but founded his own company Stan Winston Digital, right? Just checking, before this thread goes too far off the rails with the usual "OMG teh CG!" business.

Recent events have compelled me to pick up one of these nasty little beauties, as soon as they clear customs and the dealer lists them for sale. Its your basic Remmy 870 clone with a 12.5" pipe and ghost ring sights. I'll post pics when the deal is done.

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
bsu legato replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maybe there's still hope that "Rick Yamata" will see the light of day. -
http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?s=&a...st&p=611950 Maybe a friendly mod can use that "merge threads" feature, instead of merely locking everything, hmm?

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37106 Needless to say, this is a tragic loss. Winston was only 62, and presumably had years of work left in him. I'd imagine that Stan Winston Studios will continue without him, but will it really be the same without him at the helm?

Yes...because bumping 8 month old threads is always preferable, right? -

Mospeada is arguably the least "molested" of the three shows. -
Lawrence Kasdan pens Robotech movie?!
bsu legato replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That came from Kasdan himself, IIRC. Maybe it was the Empire of Dreams doc, or perhaps the original "Making Of Empire" book from 1980. Damned if I can remember now. I'd love to see Bracketts first pass as well, but I don't think it's seen the light of day since 1978. -
Lawrence Kasdan pens Robotech movie?!

Except that most of Brackett's draft was never used. -
CLICK ME! I think this should be treated as a rumor at this point, but it would be a real coup for Robodreck if it's true. Let's hope that this is the "good" Kasdan, not his evil doppelganger who wrote and directed Dreamcatcher.

Didn't you just start a catch-all "remake" thread today? I think its maybe two or three posts down from here.

Well, long story short, I'm not holding my breath for this to pan out. I'm just not interested enough to shell out an amount of money approaching an entry-level Armalite M15 carbine ( a carbine which would still require aftermarket parts to bring it into an M4-ish configuration). Hopefully Marstar will pull a Hail Mary pass and bring them in at a more reasonable price, but otherwise I'll be looking at the VZ-858 again. If only the "cheap 7.62x39" boat would dock already...

Don't even get me started on Brownells. Those "new products" flyers make me weep with rage, sometimes. Then I take out my anger on my stuffed animals, and fall asleep while crying into my pillow...I mean, Grrr Football! Maybe that would be one (possibly the only) advantage of a North American Union. Maybe your State Dept. would lighten the f**k up and let us impost stuff without ridiculous amounts of paperwork and export licenses. For a country with a second amendment, you sure make it tough for anyone else to enjoy your toys. To give you an idea of the increasing obstacles we face in getting black rifle stuff out of the US (never mind our own laws for a moment) take a gander at this news item from a major importer last month: Oh god forbid the allow a bayonet lug out of the country! And while "5.56" chambers are now verboten to export, they'll gladly sell us something with ".223" stamped on it.

Nobody outside of a couple of importers has seen these M4s, but I have read a bit about the older CQ311 (AR-15A1 clone). There's not a lot of them around, but the guys who have them say that they're ruggedly built and are accurate to well within what you'd expect from a basic mil-spec rifle, ie not exactly match-grade accuracy but certainly acceptable for a service rifle. The problem with the 311's was the use of metric threads, which made customizing them a real chore. Some guys got around it by either forcing the issue, or chasing the threads with an imperial tap. Also, these new M4s (and I suspect the earlier 311) have a hammer forged barrel. Norinco does make a lot of crap, but the 1911s, M14s and (current) 870 clones* are not among them. If and when these things do come to market, I'd want to read some range reports well in advance of whipping out the credit card, and likewise I'd want to confirm that the metric thread issue is indeed a thing of the past, as the rumors claim. But again...at the price some people are projecting I'm just going to forget the whole thing altogether. *current 870 clones in canada come in all sorts of configurations, including some wicked little 12.5" and 14" models, and are almost as nice as a real Remmie.

Ugh...I just read some sobering news from one of the importers looking at those M-Forgeries. They had wanted to market them for around the $600 mark, which for something like that would have been an awesome price point. However, the price they're getting from the Chinese makes that impossible. Norinco knows what people are paying for an AR, and they don't seem interested in giving out any deals on them. Even if it sells for $800, its well below the price of an Armalite or a Stag Arms, but that's outside the price range I really felt like spending this year on another toy. And apparently they're 16" barrels, not the pictured 14.5".

There's probably a select fire version out there, but anything being imported into Canada will be a semi-only affair. I realize there's some pretty decent upper & lower receivers that can be had, but they really lose their bargain status once you bring them across the border. Plus, recent tightening of US State Dept rules on exports are making US-made items like telescoping stocks a thing of the past. There's still plenty of ARs in the country, but to buy one and then customize it into a quasi-M4 configuration makes it just unappealing to me, financially. Black rifles aren't something I was ever really into, hence the appeal of a low-cost entry level rifle. But to make my choices more difficult, I've just today learned that we're getting some more of the semi-only CZ-58 rifles, and in new and exciting configurations. PLUS, the same dealer is no stocking Chaparral Arms, and I still have the itch for an 1873 Winchester. Decisions, decisions...
