  1. How about TV Max "J" or something unique like the Low Viz?    These DYRLs are getting old....................and boring...................

Come on, man! Didn't we go through this with the 1/60's? To summarize:

VJ-1J Hikaru - with (non canon) FAST Packs

VF-1J Max - with FAST Packs

VF-1J Milia - with FAST Packs

    VF-1D

VF-1A CF - technically a crossover product, but who's complaining?

    All that's missing is the Max & Kakizaki VF-1A's...unless you're holding out for a YF-1R. :p

We've got a 1/48 Hikaru VF-1J confirmed, plus neat new stuff like the Low Viz. I'd say these are pretty good times for Macorss collectors. Does anybody really doubt that a M&M duo is on the horizon? You just have to be more patient.

  2. Let me get this straight....

Fans bitch and moan about "too much DYRL"

    Yamato produces a TV VF-1J

Fans scream "OMG, are those FAST packs? That's not canon!"

And that was just in the 1/60 days...Fast forward a year or so:

Fans bitch and moan about "too much 1/48 DYRL"

Yamato produces a TV VF-1J, with TV correct Fast packs just for show.

Fans scream "OMG, are those FAST packs? That's not canon!"

Graham's already explained that there's plenty of new stuff a'comming. In the meantime, they release variants that fans have asked for and it's still not good enough? Some folks should just stick to Bandai.

  3. I don't see how DBZ would be any influence on G Gundam... simply because back then, DBGT was already on the air, and it was failing miserably.

Well, not necessarily DBZ then, although the timing does still allow for it. DBZ was just (then) the latest in a line of "Suppa Fighting" shows.

  4. cliché scripts written by liberal arts college dropouts.

Bringing this thread full circle (and ironically, back on topic) there was an interesting link posted on the old MW forums, once upon a time. It was an interview with one of the veteran Gundam staff discussing G Gundam. Basically, after Tomino had had enough ( sometime after F91 bombed, I believe) Sunrise basically forced G Gundam onto the staff.

"Hey, you're making this new show for us. Make the Gundams whacky and stereotypical. And since DBZ is popular, make it about fighting" Sunrise told them.

"Uhh...isn't this patently offensive to many different countries." asked the staff?

"Nah, just put a 'Neo' in front of the country names."

There was a lot more, but it basically dispelled any notion that G Gundam was the result of any real artistic writing. Perhaps somebody still has the link?

  5. You forgot to say..... whine Kou! Whine like no other anime character ever has.

Yes....I sure have remembered the whining. Or perhaps I just blocked it out?

Too bad they had to kill Burning.

Standard procedure, I'm afraid. The mentor has to die halfway through, so that the hero can spend an episode sulking, only to return to duty with renewed conviction. This usually coincides with a new Mecha being bestowed upon said pilot. In this case, it was the GP01fb.

  6. The openings are catchy

Yes, that was part of it as I recall. There was Kou, so full of promise and so eager to excell. Run Kou, run after Nina and prove yourself. And Gato...you'd make him respect you, wouldn't you Kou?

    Ah well, nice mecha though.

  7. Why is it going to be childish? Simply because it is going to have an annoying hyper kid in the cast.

And besides.... without making fun of itself.... SD Gundam isn't SD Gundam.

And worst of all, the Wingers and Poki Go Beyblade kiddies will eat it up. Dark times are ahead, methinks. Perhaps it's better that the Gundam forums are all gone after all. ;)

  8. I don't know why people are automatically assuming that this thing is more advanced than the classic destroids. Didn't we go through this with the VF-0 until we learned that it didn't even have fusion engines? For all we know, this thing has 1/3 the armor of a Tomahawk, and 1/2 the ammo capacity of the Defender.

  9. SD Gundam is already 100times better then most animes out there, and its a satire, imagine when they put effort into a Gundam show. :D

And I can just imagine how trite and childish the new North American SD show will be.

    Pokegundam, anyone?

    Yu Gi Gundam?

  10. I'll just wait until the prices go down, just like Toynami's other products.

You see, that's what I'm thinking too but here's the problem. With the first MPCs, consumers had the option (in spite of Steve Yun's quick 'delete' finger on the RT forums) of buying Toynami, Yamato or Bandai. Heck, I'll even throw in Banpresto just for kicks. But the Alpha/Legioss has no other competition. It could very likely sell as well as Toynami had initially envisioned the MPC selling. I'd hate to miss out on the Alpha I want in the vain hope that prices come down.

  11. PS: I propose we replace all the mechas from series with a single generic RB-79 Ball, so people could focus on the story and the characters

Conversely, I bet G-Gundam wouldn't draw nearly as many complaints as it does if it weren't a part of the Gundam franchise. Maybe they just should have called it Super Nationality Stereotype Robot Battle.

And yes, I too have found that 0083 hasn't really held up upon repeat viewings.

  12. claiming that you don't want to watch the show because the MS is too ugly is a very poor excuse.

*cough* I seem to remember you ranting several times how awful Gasaraki was because of the damn ugly TA's. :p

  13. I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned just how small it seems. Judging by the human profile next to it, this thing is substantially shorter than the classic destroids. And it does seem a little too "Armored Core" in appearance, but I think it's cool nonetheless.
