  2. How crazy that 20 years later, with no current tv series, Robotech makes it as a kid's meal toy. Incidentally, there was also a kid's meal Voltron toy in , I think, Australia and/or the Philippines that is scaled down Toynami Masterpiece. May be from the same food franchise since they seem to have a Toynami relationship going.

  3. Knock-offs of the little Bandai SD battroid kits were sold as 50 cent capsule toys in the US. I have the header card out of the machine somewhere. The kits included the SD VF-1S, VT-1, VE-1, and one other , all battroids. When assembled they are roughly the same size as Battlebeast toys. If the ones you remember were little squashed versions then maybe this is what it was. I'll try to find the header card and post a pic, it does say Macross on it.

  4. There are a lot of Mospeada products out there, agreed, but the ones that really matter seem to get the short end of the stick, i.e. the Beagle Fuke and Yellow. It did take forever for the Beta/Tread, but they at least made it to the light of day. BTW, any info on the Shadow Beta?

George Sohn says no Shadow Beta, according to Josh B over at CollectionDX.com, who just interviewed him at Toyfair 2010. The original Betas sold too poorly to release a Shadow. In fact, they have no new Robotech merchandise other than the vinyl Battlepods.

  5. I have some original art boards available, these are from the Robotech books I did below. Each measures 10"x15" and were of course used to print the book. These are not lettered as the lettering was added later in photoshop. Pages are $15 each, copies of the comics are $5 each. I will sign them if requested. Shipping is generally $8 per order in the US. PM me if interested.

These are the last of my Macross pages, all are from Robotech:Covert Ops #1:

    All Gone

  6. Why do they even bother putting up the No Pictures signs when someone is allowed, or has time, to put a pack of cigarettes (the official Asian scale object) in front of it and then take a picture? Also there is a tiny battleship there for scale as well, but I assume Yamato put that there.

  7. if it makes you feel better, the Steve Irwin isn't fitted for the ice at all. In one episode they're lost in an ice drift and the captain has two crew members down in the hold trying to reinforce the buckling hull with some 2x4s... or maybe that doesn't make you feel better?

This is true, because Paul Watson is such a putz. Like when he sent a couple of the hippies over to illegally board the japanese ship then immediately calls the press to say his crewmen have been abducted. I realize he's waging a propaganda war, but without this show, the general public would not have realized that it was all his own idea. I think he hurts his own cause by allowing his schemes to be televised. He comes off like a whiney bitch.

It is amusing how he's willing to throw his volunteers into very dangerous situations like cannon fodder though...and he always looks like he just woke up.

I was disappointed by the seemingly ineffective LRADs. I wanted to see those guys puking and passing out.

  8. Yeah, it is a nice little oddity to round out a collection.

I liked the Taiwanese knockoffs for the fact that the quality was strangely identical to the bandai. For some reason though, the box art didn't jive with the toy itself, and none of these toys included a gun clip.

Weirdly, I've been offered pretty good money from collectors for this one, but have never been able to put a $ value upon it myself.

There are 2 versions of this Taiwanese Super Valk. Yours, and another where the Valkyrie is molded in Grey instead of white. I have the Grey version. Mine did come with a gunclip though. The arm armor does not fit well, otherwise they are not terrible bootlegs.

  9. Another alternative is that Taito recently put out some very nice and surprisingly deatiled but cheap prebuilt toys as crane prizes in Japan. They're about a foot long, preassembled and painted with stand. I have their Blue Arcadia and Space Cruiser Yamato. They also have a Green Arcadia. Usually run around $40-$50 on ebay.

  10. It's a very good movie but incredibly sad, almost depressing in parts, for a kid's feature. My wife was balling through half of it, especially the first part. My little girl did not seem as affected by the sad parts so maybe it will go over most kids' heads.

  11. I think they should do a skull 1 in every generation fighter.

Absolutely agree and I can't believe it hasn't occurred to Yamato. It seems to be one of the most common and wished for custom schemes. I believe they would sell like gangbusters for them.

  12. I was reading one of those 'making of' books on this movie today and they say they hope to break new digital FX ground with the final battle of the movie which will be John Connor and the good cyborg guy against a photo-realistic digital recreation of a person from 25 years ago. Which pretty much tells you it is a Schwarzenegger T-800. And I think that's F'n awesome!!!!

  13. ... it's complicated, and there are several scenarios that can account for it. One simple explanation is that because mitochondrial DNA only passes from mother -> son/daughter... if 2 parents only have a son, then they are unable to pass on the mtDNA to the 3rd generation, which is very plausible. Obviously case is simplified if a couple did not have any children at all. Or if they had one male... but that guy mated with a female from another mtDNA line...

The death of a particular line of mtDNA does not necessarily imply that a whole population died out (though it is 1 possible explanation).

I took it to mean that since hera was the first hybrid, she would be the first and therefore oldest woman to have both human and cylon dna. Since all modern day humans would be descendants of such matings by now, she would be the Eve.

  14. Happywell packaged and sold this toy in the Galaxy Defender line at walmarts some years back. They also packaged and sold it in a line called Soldier Bear Toys, which was distributed to US Military Base stores. That's why you saw it on military tv. Same toy, different boxes.
