  1. Yamato and Bandai are not stupid. I'm sure the fact that people were willing to shell out HUNDREDS for a broke-ass Jetfire or Joons knock off on auction sites had a lot to do with their new toys and reissues. Just be glad that you can get a modern 1/48 for what a yellowed, incomplete vintage toy would have cost you 4 or 5 years ago on a good day, when someone didn't snipe your bid at the last second.

  2. if i recall correctly, frank miller stated in an interview that his screenplays for robo 2 & 3 were bastardized. i'm pretty sure it was in an interview for his "NEW" robocop comic series that is supposed to be a more true representation of what his screenplay for robocop 2 was. but in my mind, the original robocop will be the only robocop. cain and that guy from robo 3 can never hold anything up against clarence bodicker!!

The bastardization of his Robocop 2 screenplay must not have bothered him too much to appear in the movie. He played the scientist making Nuke for Cain in the semi truck trailer. Cain even calls him Frank.

  3. The best stories and most memorable characters have a beginning and an end, DC, Marvel, and the rest almost always refuse to put their creations to rest when their stories are finished. And no, it is not ignorant to say that stories and characters wind up recycled endlessly in American comics. How many times has the Marvel universe had to go chasing after some mystical knicknack to reset the universe? How many times has Optimus Prime died, and come back (the comics were far worse about this than the tv series), how many times do we see revisions of characters origin stories? I'm speaking of someone who used to follow comics, and got sick of them because of this crap.

Many popular Japanese series/characters get revised/retold as well, though. How many Getter Robo incarnations have there been with the same major characters and story tweaked to some degree. Tetsujin 28, Astro Boy...

Anyway, the single greatest contributor to the decline of comics in the US is video games.

Could be worse, in Japan (according to USA Today) the young adults have lost interest in having sex, and are afraid of each other. The boys prefer virtual girlfriends and hookers, while the girls prefer to fashion shop and vacation with their girlfriends.

  4. 4 - Clint Eastwood

His directing style may not have the flash of today's hyper editing, music video directing crowd, but the man undeniably knows how to tell a story. His only falterings were in the late 80's, but I believe part of that can be attributed to the fact that he just didn't care what audiences thought. He's paid his dues, and as a result he can make whatever damn movie he wants.

Indeed, personally I love the mans paceing when it comes to his story telling. Personally I love his camera work, how he lingers on a scene, letting us soak up the image. Unforgiven, Pale Rider, and Jose Wales are 3 of my favorite movies of all time. Oh toss in Mystic River into that lot as well!

I reckon so. The Outlaw Josie Wales is an awesome movie, as is Unforgiven. I thought Pale Rider was a bit more formulaic (Open Range had almost the same story formula) but still enjoyable.

  5. I really think (and this is just my own wacky theory) that Arnold didn't want to go back to playing a character that is often perceived as "dumb" or "barbaric". Not a bad idea for a guy with proven political aspirations.

I saw Arnold at San Diego ComiCon couple years back when he was promoting T3. Someone form the audience asked him about the King Conan project. He said he was very enthusiastic about doing it if they could work out everything. Can't remember if it was a script problem or what but the impression was that he was actively trying to get it done. Of course that was the summer before he decided to run for Gov.

I re-watched the orginal Conan recently and never realized how good it really was. I love that part where Conan pummels that one Doom follower with the flowers to get his robe. That look Conan gives the guy when he's stroking Conan's chest is priceless.

  6. Just got one last week. It's a good model, definetely could have a few things improved such as the large gap for the cockpit to slide through & the crappy lights in the front, but I'm happy with it. Does anyone know if they're coming out with anymore 1:18 Batman diecast vehicles?

Playing Mantis put out 1/18 diecast 'kits' of the 50's and 60's style batmobiles. You can get them at Walmart for under $20.

  7. As value goes, I just have a hard time believing that the inferior earlier release will ever been in appreciably higher demand (even among completists).

Actually, the 1st issue YF-19 is worth more than the improved second issues, in part because the production run was lower.

    not true.

where did you get that?

As long as it's in the box, they go for the same price.

out of box, the second edition sells for more.

I do now know if the run was cut short but some of the retail stores on the net have the first one for alot more.

Etailers are a bad place to gauge the value of a toy.

the thing is though, the value of these things are really determined by demand at a point in time. Neither of the 1st or 2nd edition have sold particularly better. People pick these up if the price is right. Personally given the choices, I'd take 2nd edition hands down without second thought... I'd surmise many more feel the same way...

second editions for yamato are just patched up toys.

I know the first issue YF-19's are worth more because I lived through the whole craze that was sparked when Yamato issued the revised versions. I had 2 first issues and thought they were pieces of crap. I was glad to unload them for over 3x retail each. The second issues were still going for retail at the same time.

  9. The head shot is real.

    ... real cool lookin.

I hope EP 3 is so violent little kids run out of the theatre screaming.

You know, that would actually be funny. After years of being accused of kiddy-fying his films, Lucas snaps and makes "3" a gore-fest.

You should hear how Mace gets it...

Is he eaten by a big-ass genetically enhanced shark?

  10. I want to reneg the fact that he called him a crook... he said what a crock.  I've been seeing to many mispellers lately and I'm starting decipher words for myself for no reason.

I'm going to leave my statement uneditted, so take what you will fom it.

Well I'm pretty much keeping the standard grading scales in mind (I can supply you many, many links to grading scales):

    SWFigures.com

    I would classify it as a solid 9 (maaaaayyyybbbeeeee a 9.5)... i.e. NOT MINT

And your right I said CROCK as in Crock of Shiznit, not crook... a crook would be someone trying to sell my '81 VW as "mint"

Age and rarity in mind... it probably is worth $1000 as a 9+. My argument is the word "Mint" I see a lot of crap labeled as "Mint" on Ebay that is in no way mint "Near Mint" yes (Shelf wear is "near mint").

Anyone who thinks that an original Japanese issue Legioss is worth $1000 PLEASE PM ME! I will gladly sell you a Green one in C9 box with all accessories (including pilot), missiles still in bag, and stickers applied for half that price. Shipped even. Then you can put it on eBay and double your money. No kidding.

  11. Wow, must really suck living in a socialist - oriented country doesn't it guys? They tax the hell out of you poor bastids. They tax us plenty in the US too but at least they don't bend us over on imports as well.

Are there still customs taxes from the US to Canada after NAFTA?

  12. Of all the new Trek series, the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" from TNG stands out as what they can do when it all comes together. That episode rocked.

Most of the time, though, they rely on all this technobabble horseshit like "if we direct a subspace tachyon particle from the main deflector , or release plasma from the warp core, it just might let us break free." That gets old. In the old days, all they needed was Kirk to kick somebody's ass or screw some chick and the job got done!

  13. Here's what's going to happen. The preds and aliens will wipe out the humans till only the chick is alive. Then at the last minute Ahnold will bust in as Dutch from Predator 1 and whack the predators. Then he turns and starts Groping the chick. An alien sneaks up and bites him only to hit steel because he is also the TERMINATOR!! The terminator promptly wastes the aliens , shoots the chick and flies off to California to be the Governator! The end.
