  1. YAY! Just what we needed! Another VF-1! Seriously, instead of this why couldn't they just re-create the Gakken Legioss molds and crank them onto the market. You know, a Legioss worth a crap. Instead we get like the 7th rendition of a VF-1 in the past 5 years (Bandai 1/55 reissue, Banprestos, Yamato 1/60, Yamato 1/48, Toynami 1/55). Something different, fans want something DIFFERENT. Sign a contract with Yamato already. Bring over the 1/48's at a lower price. Start work on NEW things...that would be my approach. I'd try to bridge the gap between Big West and HG.
  2. I have to say, if I walked into that store I'd probably fall to my knees and kiss the ground...people in Japan probably do not realize how lucky they are. Someone should show the Japanese the inside of a US Toys R Us...they'd probably send us Gundams and valkyries out of pity
  3. I'd bet that Yamato knows how popular Macross is from a nostaligia point of view in the West. They have to know that probably 1/4 or more of their toys end up in the west. Though they cannot directly market to the West, it has to be considered a strong side market. Wasn't the Gundam Museum built to commemorate the 25th anniversary? I thought that opened in lthe 2002-2003 timespan.
  4. Considering next year is the 25th anniversary of Macross TV, I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been any talk of what we might see. I remember back in 2001 we were doubtful of Bandai but then they did the reissue line. It'll be a few months until anything starts showing up in the hobby mags, but I'm hopeful Bandai will finish its reissues. I'd like to see a reissue Strike, Elint, Ostrich, Blazer and VF-17D as well as some possible repaints of existing valkyries (VF-1A Max, VF-17S Milia, etc). I'd also hope they used the same mold as the other reissues for the VE-1 and VT-1 as I prefer the pointy nose (plus it might keep the collectors who spent a bunch on the originals happy that there is a difference). As far as new things I'd really like to see Yamato take a crack at larger-scale macross plus and VF-X2 toys. I'd like to see a perfect VF-11 which gets very little love in toy or model form (still waiting on Hasegawa). What are your thoughts?
  5. Sad to hear it, but I figured it was coming with the sale. Good luck Kevin!
  6. I hate to dig up old threads but I finally got these from the seller. OMG! The boxes are in at least C-9 condition (probably 9.5+) and are each sealed in celophane. I would guess that the valkyries have never been out of their boxes and stickers are unapplied. WOW! In fact, they're so nice I'm very hesitant to take them out of their packaging...gah! I want to take it out and sticker it up SO BAD! UGH...
  7. software engineer dealing with messaging systems for the airline industry. Long winded way of saying "programmer".
  8. I got a VF-1A MPC Ben type off Ebay for $20. I thought the proportions sucked in pictures, but the pictures do no justice to how much it sucks. I mainly got it because no other production version of this valkyrie had been done and will keep it. IMO Toynami spends too much time/effort on the gimmicks and the box and the sculpt really suffered for it. I'll take a Bandai reissue chunky monkey and it's nice rigid form over the Toynami MPC any day. It's barely worth the $20 I paid for it. Here's to hoping Toynami uses less inferior materials when makeing the Beta.
  9. I don't know how much it's worth, but I just won one off Ebay for $25 shipped.
  10. Since I got yelled at for starting a new thread by a monitor the other day, I'm going to resurface this thread. I FINALLY got a VB-6 from Kevin and I must say it's an engineering MARVEL. If Yamato applied this kind of effort they could make some VERY nice toys from SDC Southern Cross as they would require similar double-hinges. I think it's beautiful and right now it's my favorite Yamato toy (even over the 1/48 series).
  11. EXO: thanks for mentioning this, it brings to mind something I have been wondering...obviously the VB-6 was popular enough to warrant a second production run. However, I have been noticing that the Max Rau (which I still have yet to get) is in noticably shorter numbers than the Milia Rau. Did Yamato produce significantly fewer numbers of the Max Rau or was it just much more popular than Milia's for some reason? You'd figure they'd try to milk the molds and go ahead and produce the purple and even a wrong green one. I still have a lot of Yamato's to go unfortunately...
  12. Like in-store or online? I couldn't find any in their online store. If in-store, what section are they in? TIA!
  13. Thanks Graham! I plan to make one of these customs when I can find another cheap reissue. These pics (especially the Bandai prototype picture) will really help. I like the bright red Bandai chose for their prototype... I wish someone would recast the VF-19S wings so people can make custom VF-19's from emerald force (lackeys with white trim).
  14. Graham: Can you repost the VF-17S pics from Macross 7?
  15. You were DAMN right and I cannot believe it. Yeah, it was me. I won all 4 (for $141 plus shipping). Color me very happy. The 17D and 19S were the ones I mainly wanted since I have the reissue 17S and can get a 19c easily. I couldn't pass up a whole set though for under $150 though. The boxes look to be in good condition as well.
  16. I hope that Capt will do another run of these in early 2006. I think there would be enough demand.
  17. I'm with EXO in this, his point is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I really have no opinion of your custom, but I think that red head is way cool. I'd like to see an entire custom based on it (keep the silver/clear visor). You can criticize but noone else can (real plane or not)? C'mon, his original barb was funny.
  18. Yeah, I don't doubt that the bootlegs are rarer than the real things these days. These are GREAT days to be a Macross fan (unless you collect bootlegs). I found this on Ebay today: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-55-Macross-VF-1J-Gre...1QQcmdZViewItem You can get a Bandai reissue for like $35 but to get a Joons cost $100?
  19. BobePatt...seeing that made me want to throw up. And I have been using ebay every week for 8 years now and have NEVER seen a Blazer go for that cheap... I remember the first 17D I had I bought and sold on Ebay for $100 or so. Now I'm trying to re-get the 17D and 19S.
  20. I challenge you to find me a Bandai blazer for under $100. $150 is and has been the going rate for them for a while (on ebay at least). EDIT: Of course when I say that I find on ended on Ebay for $91 recently. SOmehow that one slipped by me...damn. When did you buy all 4 for under $130 shipped? 1996?
  21. If you're going to buy a VF-19S bootleg, look for one that has grey shoulders and the blazer head, you'll feel better about it later. They're harder to find, but a worthy substitute for $150 original blazer valkyrie. The fire is nearly identical between the bootleg and Bandai versions. Only differences you'll see are paint really. Pretty sure they're made from the SAME molds.
  22. Worst: Phantasm or Virgin Road Best: Miss Macross (detail on GBP-1S is awesome) or whatever #27 is called with the finale. Seriously though, it would not hurt for someone to re-create Macross. They could make it a lot better and drum up more interest from the modern kiddies...unfortunately, however, you wouldn't have the original cast.
  23. When I said the legs were floppy, I didn't mean the fast packs/armor connection. I mean the joint where the hip meets the underneath of the chest just pops out so easily. I was being facetious about the strong breeze regarding the missile towers and under-wing attachments, but they are very loose/wobbly. I really don't care much for the toy falling apart during transformation and having to reassemble it in the new mode. Also, the gunpod and arm armor don't seem to want to work together for me. The gunpod falls out very easily and the leg pegs do not keep the arms in place very well in fighter mode. If I pick the toy up after having it set in fighter, the arms will try to droop lower every time. Kensei: What would you suggest in regards to not using nailpolish to make the connection points fit tighter? I'm not sure what Testors non-toxic cement IS. Is it the brush-on liquid glue?
  24. Hey, I've had my 1/48 VF-1A Hikaru since it came out and have recently only gotten my 2nd and 3rd 1/48. My 3rd 1/48 was the 1J Max and I also recentl got a set of fast packs. One of the first things I noticed was how LOOSE these things are. The missles fall off the pylons, the missle parts of the backpack and such just fall off with a strong breeze. Has anyone else seen this behavior on their fast-packs? What did you do to correct? Clear nailpolish? I'm thinking about trying to find the dullest clear nailpolish I can find and going to town on all my 1/48's to make them tighter in a lot of places. My 1/48 Max has a problem with the hips staying in place in fighter mode. Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with this.
  25. For a mars low-vis why not do a variation on a desert camo where the base colors are red and orange?
