  1. All good Ridden001, I didn't think you were critiquing me at all. I like what you did to your missiles. I think it's a great little detail and I don't recall seeing that done before. I'm working on a another 1/48 Valkyrie right now, I'm gonna turn it into a cannon fodder VF-1A, I think I'm going add your missile detail to the loadout. Where did you get the lenses from?
  2. Thank you Ridden001. I didn't do anything special to the missiles., just paint from a airbrush that needed to be cleaned. I wish I had the attention to detail that you have. I'd like to see what you did the DX missiles, you should post some pics.
  3. Thanks DWN013. My father was an aircraft mechanic, more specifically, he worked on tomcat airframes. Back in the day, usually a day before the Miramar air show, he would bring me and my friends to the hangar and we'd get an up close, behind the scenes look at all fighters. I also got to do a tiger cruise one year, for those that don't know that's when kids got to meet up with their dad's in Hawaii and sail back to San Diego with them. He was on the USS Ranger at the time and that was awesome, one the best parts of my childhood.
  4. "Hand model", Brett? Yeah, I read your About Page. Your website looks great, can't wait to see what else you have coming up, congrats!
  5. Congrats on the centerfold Arbit!!! That's awesome and you're quick to credit those who've helped you, which speaks volumes. Your work is incredible.
  6. Thanks guys! @peter - I think wheels up was about the same on either, easier on the 1/48 because the wheel well door pieces are bigger. I had to file the edges down a little so they would fit but not a big deal. After that I just stuffed the wheel wells full of Plastic-Weld epoxy putty and put the doors right on top. It's not the cleanest, I had to re-do some panel lines and one of the doors on the front gear had popped out a little while the epoxy was hardening so it's totally uneven. Btw, your 1/72's in formation are really nice.
  7. I finally completed it. I didn't want to paint this one up in the traditional hero colors so I made this as a tribute to another hero of mine... my father. The squadron decals are of VF-124 "Gunfighters", the first one he was assigned to when he got stationed at Miramar back in the good ol' days. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Hope you like it, constructive criticism welcome.
  8. Great job on those fins!! Brings back memories of when I worked on mine.... and I remember it SUCKED!!
  9. Awesome so far. What shade of brown is that or did you follow the painting guide in the instructions?
  10. I've never had an issue with them. My only complaint (and I'm totally nit-picking here) is that shipping is on the pricey side.
  11. I think you got it - "capillary action".
  12. I use the Mr. Surfacer 1200 in a spray can, and just spray it like I would any other kind of primer. I'd use it all the time if it wasn't so expensive .
  13. Totally agree. There are a lot of pissed off people in that DX thread. Makes me happy to be a model builder and not a toy collector... makes my wallet happy too.
  14. Gotta love all those tiny NO STEP decals
  15. I don't think there's another aircraft (real world) past or present that I love more than the Tomcat!
  16. There was a petition for these a few years back but it looks like we didn't get the numbers Jasmine had wanted to start a run. I wonder why Jasmine stopped producing their VF-1 PE sets, IMO I think they look better than the one Hasegawa puts out, maybe they got in trouble
  17. That's pretty cool MT. Merry Christmas to you and to the whole MW community!
  18. I hope you're able find the time to do some building PeterB... chime in every now and then.
  19. Welcome JagimusPrime! You'll find that everyone on here are friendly and always willing to give advice. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.
  20. Having gone last year, I'd say there are deals out there to be had. The venue won't hold 10k people, I think the max capacity is less than 1,000.
  21. I would never try this myself but I absolutely admire the look and the craftsmanship that went in to the build. Great job Domcalmet1.
