  1. I picked up all four of the Juon movies a few months ago, There were 2 theatrical movies and two TV movies, Juon the Grudge part 1 and 2 and Juon The Curse part one and two, they are all different flicks, and they all essentially tell one big story about that house and it's cursed inhabitants/visitors.

I went and saw the theatrical movie yesterday. They really picked and chose fun scenes from all of the Juon movies to put together one cohesive storyline to accomodate one big name hollywood actress that most certainly cost a lot to hire. In the Japanese movies the victims of the house were disposable, they all died. The japanese version did a lot more out-of-sync time jumping, back and forth to break up the story and show you bits and pieces of the things that happened in the house, the American version was a little more linear, I think they wanted it to be a little easier to understand since I don't think they are planning to have 8 hours to drag the story out over. Although, they have left enough material to make a sequel if they want to in my opinion.

Overall, the Hollywood remake is a cool flick, and it has it's spooky moments but if you have the chance to see the entire Japanese run, it is worth the time.

  2. I am a huge fan of Akira, but couldn't care less about the "live action" version. I look at any movie based on a cartoon as going to be a total piece of dog poo and then if somehow they manage to beat my expectation great. As a purist though I could not and would not ever support such a travesty being put on film by spending my moneyto watch, rent or God forbid buy it.

  3. I am looking forward to the rail and the vehicle, John's modelling skills are astounding.

On the subject of a raffle, if I have this straight you are talking about selling raffle tickets for a random chance at the three prizes above, but the raffle is essentialy independent of the pre-sale for the rail, the cost of the tickets does not go towards one's purchase of the rail, you are just buying a ticket?

If that's the case it won't have any effect on my decision to purchase the kit one way or the other, I am too stingey to spend my money on random drawings. If you are planning to do a drawing for people that pre-buy the kit at no extra cost, well that is a pretty nice little incentive to pre-order and it may get you a few extra advance orders but won't effect my decision to buy.

Good luck and keep up the good work, you guys are really doing quality work.

  4. Movie.... Awesome :) I love everything they have done though, from Cannibl the Musical to Orgazmo, South park, Baseketball, it is all good.

At any rate, did any of you remember the phone number from the chick's business card? it was 1-800-555-#### and I know there was a 43 and another descending number sequence, like 76 or 10 but I didn't get it written down.

I wanted to call it, to see if there was a funny recording or something like the old number from Ghost-Busters.

  5. These greatest hits collections that have been coming out the past few years are the best :) All of these have nearly unlimited replay value in my eyes:

    Galaga

    Sinistar

    Yie Ar Kung Fu

    Mortal Kombat 2

    Robotron 2084

Street Fighter 2 (Just about any incarnation)

    Rampart (Castle warfare game)

    Joust

    Ms. Pac Man

I still want Arcade perfect reproductions of Dragons Lair and Dragon's Lair 2 for a system, playing them on a DVD player is just lame.

I also really want a copy of the Tron Video Game, the one where you played stages as tanks, cycles, and battle the MCP with your disc. An arcade perfect version of the Star Wars Trilogy game would really make me happy as well :)

  6. I am going to reserve my judgement until I see some screencaptures or production art. I have very little faith in strong storytelling coming out of this, but if they hook up the earth defense forces with Hunter's lost SDF-3 then there are all kinds of possibilities for new mecha which have been evolved off the VF-1, remember that in the Robotech universe seemingly all mechanical advances occur on or around the space fortress because the rest of the universe is inept and magical robotechnology invades the residents of the space fortress and spurs them to create new implements of destruction :p

Anywho, they could start it out with some Alpha re-hashing and then have Hunter de-fold in earth space with somme whoop ass VF-9999R Death-bot, who knows :)

  7. That sounds a lot like some of the other re-cast houses, they are probably ordering a quantity through E-2046 or one of those HK outfits that do recasts based upon orders built up.

Still neat to see interest in all things Macross out there :)

  8. Don't be so pessimistic, on the time factor that is, just think, 100 years ago our only means of conveyance was horse and steam, now there is a car in every driveway, a computer in every house and 47 tons of our trash orbitting our planet.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had teleportation technology, personal space craft and vacations on Mars by the time I am 90. That. or one of our new super weapons will have eradicated life as we know it, you know, either or :)

  9. Ouch....

My brother and I picked up our copies today. Both are Widescreen editions, we brought them home and threw my copy of ANH in, chapter 26 and 27 have fairy severe video defects and digitized blockiness for a fraction of a second on 5 occasions, three in chapter 26 and 2 in chapter 27.

My brother's copy is clean. Both purchased from different stores. At any rate, the flaw is on the disc, reproduceable in my Panasonic DVD player, Sony PS2 and portable DVD player by Toshiba.

At any rate, it looks like maybe they rushed the factory to get the discs out.... <_<

  10. I must be broken.

I love Star Wars, I have my own Storm Trooper armor costume, see :My Webpage

But I really don't have a problem with Lucas Upgrading graphics on his movies. I don't like him making substantive changes in the plot or storyline, but as far as him filling in frames with CG creatures or making "better" laser blasts, I think it is just fine.

People get far to wound up over this stuff. The movies are supposed to be enjoyable, they are supposed to convey a story and a message. I think a lot of people are missing the forest for the trees so to speak.

It's all good people, if you are so pissed about the changes, then don't buy the new set. I am sure you can find someone who has ripped the LD's to DVD someplace who will provide you wtih the old material if you look hard.

  11. That is really cool, I lugged my PS2 all the way from Chattanooga to Hawaii last year, the new size reduction will make that little sucker extremely handy to carry around.

Just by looking at the photo I think that it would be possible to remove about half the Pages from a 100CD case, insert a foam liner and you would be able to carry around a PS2, cables and 50 games in the space of one large CD wallet.

The PS2 still has my money for travelling universal media device, games, DVD's and music in a pinch, the only thing that would make it better would be a rechargable battery :)

  12. Well, I for one am going to try to support everything you guys do. The following is a list of things that I would definitely buy from you without question(So long as you don't go insane with the prices :p )

    1/72

    Regult

    Glaug

    VF17

    Nausger

Thunder Hummer (I like Hummer better :p )

    Zentraedi fighter

    destroids (Any and all)

    1/48

    Elint and Super-O conversion parts

GBP (although I think Yamato making these is likely)

    Thunder Hammer armor :)

  13. PSP, the last time I looked was supposed to hit the US in the first quarter of 2005, christmas 2004 in japan. The problem with it initially will be price and games. EB games says that the first game titles in the US are shipping 01/25/2005 and there are only about ten of them. After that it should be great.

The PSP is rumored to be in the 275 to 400$ price range, it will play movies, games and music on Sony's proprietary UMD discs, sort of like mini dvds. Sony has stated that they will not sell UMD recorders to the public or give them to game developers though, so the only software will be officially released by Sony, this means that game developers will likely have to jump through a lot of hoops to get games to market, as sony did with the PS1.

It should be a solid system, but it will be a slow launch I think.

Game Boy advance SP is the way to go right now, tons of games, relatively cheap for the value (Around $70) and it plays every gameboy cartrige ever made. Thousands of titles.

Nintendo is also releasing a new handheld sometime soon although i am not certain of the date, the Gameboy DS (Dual Screen). This is looking like a beefed up Gameboy SP, it is supposed to be backwards compatible with Gameboy and Gameboy advance titles but I have not seen a working model in action so I can't confirm that.

The Gameboy DS will be supported heavily and if it is Backward compatible then it will certainly have a ton of games right from the get go.

For a Christmas present I don't think you ca go wrong with a Gameboy Advance SP, price and games it is a great little system. If you want to wait and see, then the new Sony and Nintendo systems will be out in early 2005 but games for the PSP will be rare for several months but it will be cool, and the Nintendo DS will surely have a horde of games but will probably not be as graphically or technologically impressive as the PSP.

(My opinions based on what I have read and seen. Don't take it as word of God.)

  14. So, what do you experts expect once the AWB ends on 09/13/04 if is it not renewed?

I am looking at picking up a pair of rifles and for a while I have been eyeing the Armalite AR-10, possibly an A2 or the newest T variant in .308 and something smaller and fun for "plinking" possibly a lever action.

I am a little hesitant to do anything for a little while though on the AR-10 front because I expect that there will be some temporary price gouging based on the uncertainty of law changes. What do you guys think?

As far as a small bore, target rifle what do you guys like?

I am a gun noob, I have shot several mini-14's, 12 and 410 guage shotguns and a number of pistols in the past, but I have never owned or had to maintain a gun so I am looking for a little advice.

I am talking to the locals too, but most of my contacts are dealers trying to sell me something rather than giving me honest advice.

  15. Dude!! that show was hilariously awesome!!

I saw a couple episodes last year and it was freaking hilarious. Spiderman's multi-purpose attack car also had machine guns and he was killing the hell out of some random bad guys. No namby pamby wrap em up for the cops, he was taking the baddies straight to school with a vengeance!

I laughed for a solid half hour :)

  16. Good luck down there, my brothers from Daytona Beach are up here in Chattanooga, TN staying with me since last night. My uncle in Melbourne is home bound and was not willing to let anyone carry him out of his house to escape the storm, he has people checking on him, but if this storm stays as strong as it is now, it is going to do sopme real damage down there.

You have about 12 hours to get out of dodge by the most recent estimates I have seen, I think you would be better safe than sorry.

    Good luck man.. :unsure::unsure:
