    Yamato SDF-1

True enough, but both Yamato and Bandai have had licensing agreements with Big West, and most certainly could obtain further licenses if they had the motivation too. Regardless, I was just curious to know if anyone had any info or rumor on the planned Yamato SDF-1. The Bandai SoC SDF-1 was just wishful thinking How frigging sweet would a foot and a half long metal SDF-1 SoC be, owning one would almost be a pre-requisite to calling yourself a Macross fan
  2. I still say if one of the talented sculptors here wanted to do the "R" heads posted on the front page of this thread I would gladly buy at least one of each version in 1/48 scale. They would be too good to pass up for unique custom projects. THey may not be an "Original" macrossworld design, but they sure would make for some special valks.

    Yamato SDF-1

Better to dredge up an old thread than start a new one for an old topic right? So, I assume that there has been no announcement as far as a Yamato SDF Toy. Has anyone heard anything one way or the other? A year or two ago, there had been some sort of semi-formal announcement or perhaps it was a dinner discussion Graham had with a connection, but I thought the word was that Yamato was actively recruiting a sculptor / Sculptors to make a scale SDF toy. Have any of you information guru's seen any talk of this on insider japanese discussion boards? Is the project still a possibility or is it dead in the water? I really, really, really want a nice quality, highly detailed SDF toy for my collection, and god love em, but the old Bandai versions just aren't quite the level of detail I want. Hell to be honest, if Bandai would make a sharp SDF toy in the Soul of Chogokin line, something along the lines of the battleship Yamato, or the Harlok vessel, I would jump out of my skin to buy one. I hope somebody out there makes something for us. the old Bandai's just don't look right next to the details in the Hasegawa kits and te Yamato 1/48's in my opinion...
  4. Just a quick thought on sales and revenue streams... If you make a resin kit of a VF-1 unless it is something extremely rare or original you might have trouble unloading them due to oversaturation. However, as there is a pretty large group of model builders and toy collectors here that have been salivating at the idea of 1/72, 1/60, 1/55 and 1/48 scale destroids and enemy mecha, it might be something to think about.
  5. Thanks for the review, update and pictures Ken. I was worried that the VB-6 project had driven you mad Keep up the good work man, I wish I lived nearby so I could come donate some time to the project, it is obvious that you have put a massive amount of effort into it so far! I picked up a toy version from Kevin at Valk Exchange as well mainly for my Yammy toy collection, but I still eagerly await the challenge of the kit. Thanks again for taking on the project man.
  6. I think it is completely flawless, great work! I wish I had your patience and skill it looks like you really took some time and put some love into that baby
  7. Sucks, because that show has suffered purely due to poor marketting and placement. They have truly done an abysmal job getting that show in a decent time slot. Had Fox put that show on in a 9:00 weeknight or post Simsons Sunday it would be getting good enough ratings to carry for a long time. I don't know about where you live but in my city (Chattanooga TN) it was airing at 11:30 on Wednesday nights on UPN and re-running sporadically on saturday afternoons at 2:00pm. The sad thing is that the few episodes that I forced myself to be in front of the TV at those wierd times I really liked. But due to the crappy placement I decided that I would be better off just waiting for the DVD if I want to watch the show sequentially and know the storyline. Who knows perhaps A-la Family Guy the show will be cancelled because the networks couldn't figure out how to place it and then DVD sales will convince them that they screwed the pooch.
  8. I have one of each 1/48 valk they have released and a double of the Hikaru VF-1A which is totally sufficient for my own personal collection, but that sure doesn't mean I can't admire your stuff. The Wall of Yamato alter you have constructed is truly spectacular. Excellent collection, thank you for sharing It would be fun to play a game using 1/48's as the pieces, like Warhammer 40K skirmish using barbie doll houses for terrain. You could play chess with 1/48's you have so many, awesome
  9. I love this genre of video games. From Duck hunt on i have been a fan of Shooting games, particularly the Gun-Con and Gun-Con 2 games put out by Namco. Personally, there are a few games that I really recommend, but you have to know what you are getting first, many of them are PS-1 titles, but they play on the PS2, so it doesn't matter. The Time Crisis series are really fun games, they have some of the best accuracy of any light gun games and are entertaining to plow through. I do not have Time Crisis 3 yet, but once I pick up another tube tv I will snag a copy. House of the Dead, not sure about US PS or PS2 releases, but I have these for the dreamcast and they are extremely fun I like to play two player solo for John Woo style shooting, two hands, two guns! Elemental Gearbolt, this one will probably be hard to find but Working Designs brought over this port from Japan for the Playstation and it is an awesome game, really neat shooter on rails, really different enemies. Namco also put out a series of games called Point Blank, these are shooting gallery games, more akin to Duck Hunt or the old Police Trainer Shooting gallery arcade games than House of the Dead, but they are extremely fun if you like Gun Con shooting games. The one serious recommendation I have is to spend the extra money and get a Gun-Con, the vast majority of third party light gun out there suck to the most ultimate extreme possible, the Namco Gun-Con in my opinion is head and shoulders above any other light gun on the market.
  10. Might be off topic, but I needed to find out from some Gundam Guru's. What the hell is a 1/60 real scale model? My local Hobby store has a 1/60 'Real Scale Strike Gundam kit for sale. The kit costs 60 bucks and looks a little like a gimped version of a PG kit. Have you guys seen these before? It is not the 1/60 PG Strike in a US box, in fact with the limited accessories, (A gun) I don't know what it really is. Any ideas?
  11. Damn you are talented! Really nice kit man.
  12. Please combine this with the robot that uses biological muscle on the front page of CNN and the robots they built a month or two ago that independently fuel themselves by burning biological material (flies) and you will have the stage one terminator, bent on burning humans for fuel to rebuild itself, bigger faster, more efficient so it can burn more people and build bigger robots We are working our way towards serving the machine gods, I often wonder aloud which implement of destruction will we ultimately choose to end ourselves.
  13. I like the idea a lot, and I love those "R" heads, if you could manage to get a good sculpt of them for casting I would be interested in them. An official Macrossworld paint scheme and valk variant would be super cool
  14. I think he is, I have a first gen PS2 imported from Japan and it plays DVD's from any region. The original release had some flaws but it also had it's charms
  15. The MiniMac is a niche market product in my eyes. It seems to be targetted at people that need very limited computer power, and want to support anyone other than microsoft othewise it doesn't seem ot make much financial sense. I think by now it is pretty evident that there are Mac people and Non-Mac people. Macintosh isn't even trying to target PC buyers, their machines aren't made for gaming, upgrading, running the latest greatest software and adapting to the ever changing world of personal computing. I have used Macintosh computers and they are great for tasks, that is, for completing an ort project, for writing a report or a manuscript, but they have functional limitations for running high end graphics intensive programs (Games) and they don't get the amount of software development and suppor that PC"s do. I would love to support a company that competes with Microsoft but their computers just don't run the applications that I need to run. If I was a writer or a graphic artist that didn't play modern high end computer games then I would problaby buy one, but I'm not.
  16. You guys rock harder than Metallica on the Master of Puppets tour. Absolutely Bad Asses!
  17. Had I any one of the above I sure as hell would not be working for anyone else any longer. My first stop would be at the local downtown bank branch to make a large cash withdrawl from the safe. VF-1 and a VF Sized Sledge Hammer for me.
  18. Not yet, I am a little (OCD) Obsessive Compulsive when it comes to my RPG's. I am presently playing through Final Fantasy 1&2 on the GBA and dealing with my EQ (Everquest) addiction. I don't like to start into a game unless I know I have time to finish it, so the Growlanser games are destined to stay in their package for at least a few more weeks. I also tend to absolutely squeeze the life out of any old school RPG I start by exploring the entire game, maxxing out levels and beating every monster in them so it will probably be a while before I really get to dig in.
  19. You guys seen te Citroen C4 transformer commercial yet? If not I figured you might be interested in seeing what the movie will probably look like: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/video/citroen.php If that link is dead just google Citroen C4 Video you should find a couple dozen mirror sites. If this is old old news I appologize.
  20. The only Japanese Rock albums that I have found and gone out and bought are by: Zeni Geva on CDNOW.com Japanese Hardcore/Death Metal Of course, pop music makes my skin crawl so this is obviously not the J-Pop that most anime fans are looking for
  21. I got the deluxe edition. Of course I am a Rapid fna of Wroking Designs as a company and buy every one of their releases in the deluxe special edition form. That is one company that I believe truly serves the fans from the titles they select to import to the goodies they pack in them. The Deluxe edition comes with a very nice quality wrist watch, which frankly far exceeded wht I expected to be packed in with a video game. The Ring and necklace also are very substantial both good quality and very nice looking. (Amazingly the ring fits my size 12/13 finger too Woohoo ) I am still playing through FF 1&2 so Growlanser goes to the collection for the time being, but I will get around to it. If you are asking about the value of the "Stuff", well it is collectible, is ti worth 30 dollars? I think so, but many might not. Working Designs likes to include the goodies much like the Japanese did with many of these games and I love it
  22. I came to macrossworld from the world of Robotech as well, being that it was the first "Anime" I was exposed to I don't feel bad about having enjoyed Robotech, although having now seen and owned the original series I am more a fan of Macross than RT. One word of warning on the Yamato 1/48's just so there is no surprise. You have probably played with a Jetfire, or a Bandai veritech/valkyrie, the Yamato 1/48 is going to feel radically different to you than the old metal monsters. It is nearly 100% plastic, this isn't a bad thing in my opinion, but the Yamato is going to feel pretty light comparatively. I have one of each model Yamato has released so far and I love them all. The transformation process is more complicated that the old "Chunkey Monkey" Bandai versions but it is truly a beautiful thing. Take your time and be patient the first few times you transform the Yamato, some things like turning the head to the proper position may not seem clear in the instruction manual but once you transform them a few times it is no big deal. Good luck with your first purchase, I am dead certain you will be happy with the Yamato Valk.
  23. I think they only way they could get it right would be to hire John M. A.K.A. Captain America to start over and finish his Legioss (Alpha) and work a beta off of it. I Don't own, but have examined the Toynami Alpha and I fail to see any connection points built into the Toynami Alpha to accomodate the addition of the Beta. I was also fairly unimpressed with the feel of the transformation and the durability of the Toynami alpha, it felt like it wanted to break during transformation and the joints, seemed unreliable some super tight, others borderline floppy, like with any repeated transformation you would end up with a floppy toy. If they come out with a Beta I will probably break down and buy and Alpha though..... Even though I don't believe they are worth the retail price.
  24. I use a little dab of Modelling clay or putty and a magic marker or drop of paint to make pin set marks. Mark the pin hole site on one of the pieces to be pinned, Roll the modelling clay or putty into a tiny ball, stick it on the side of the model part you are going to pin where you want the pin to go, then dab paint or marker ink on the model clay or putty and smush the parts togehter lined up correctly, this will mark the opposing piece were you need to drill the other hole. When you pull the pieces apart the opposite side will be marked, remove the clay or putty and you have your drill sites marked. There are other techniques but this is the one I use. I have seen other people that drill the first hole, ink the part then press the parts together, this leaves an impression of the part and a gap where the guide hole is, it also leaves yoru parts wet with ink or paint which requires some clean up. Good luck.
