1. Ouch!!, $25 for 6" figs. Nice box/package though (as usual from Toynami). Double Ouch!!!, $80 for a 12" man doll. Looks cool, but can't you get BBI or Dragon 12" figures for like $40? Macross item prices are just kicking me hard in my privates. Anyways, thanks for posting the news.

  2. Anyone know of a shop that's accepting pre-orders for this badboy?  Normally I'd go with Valk-EX but it's no longer.  TMPanime is sold out.  Neova's store isn't pre-ordering yet.

    Any ideaS?

    367732

Go to BigBadToyStore (BBTS). I believe they are still taking preorders. Although the price is $165, it comes out to be the same price as TMP because you live in California. TMP price was $152, but if you add CA sales tax, it comes out to be about $165. BBTS doesn't charge tax, so it's the same price when you think about it. Just do it!

  3. Yamato owns me, or my paycheck rather.  Hoping the drool doesn't short out my laptop as I write this.  Does anyone know if anyone's still taking preorders...I missed the HLJ boat.

I believe BigBadToyStore (BBTS) is still taking preorders. They're probably going "what the fokker?" why are we getting so many preorders all of a sudden?!?! hahaha

    Damn, that's one purrrdy fokker.

  4. What's that white piece there?  Where did you get it?

Why do you need a replacement screw?

Let me post pics of what I have going on here.

    366905

The white piece holds the hip joints and comes with the toy.

The replacement screw is longer because the original screw is too short. The longer the screw, the more metal reinforcment you have.

  5. So how did you get the legs back on for this thing.  Super glue didn't work... which I bought today, along with a stand for my Elintseeker.

Again, I want to stress that I really don't care about transforming this, so fighter mode is fine.  I just want the legs back on, that's all I care about now.

I recently got a VF-11B off ebay with both hip joints broken. The previous owner stated that one hip joint was broken, so I guess the other hip joint broke during shipping! Anyways, it's a pretty easy fix. The hard part is finding the right size replacement screw. I lucked out and found the correct size screws in one of my gundam model kits. Maybe other board members can recommend where to get screws. Take the pieces apart, replace the "short original silver screw" with a "longer black replacement screw" (see picture), put it back together, and you're done. You will still see the cracks where it was broken, but once you transform it into fighter mode, the cracks will be hidden under the plane. Hope this helps and good luck.

  6. Thanks everyone for their input. Here is the final summary. For why Yamato toys are getting so expensive, the reasons include lack of competition, dollar vs yen, high overseas shipping, middle man profit, yamato milking us dry, economics of scale, whatever 1/1 low viz wrote, high initial capital cost, high petroleum prices, and whatever 1/1 low viz wrote again. All these reasons are combined to create the "PERFECT STORM" high prices.

Are they worth the price? According to everyone, whatever the price, they are still worth it, as long as the product is well made. And it is universally agreed upon that this is the most beautiful, best engineered, best looking hunk of plastic ever assembled. Although we will complain and whine about the high prices, people feel these things are just too cool to pass up. People will buy these no matter what the price. Even if the prices are sky high, they will still buy a least one. Price only becomes a concern when people are considering buying multiples of the same item. Or if you are Godzilla, price is nothing but a number.

  7. In responce to OP:

I'm not really sure how to comfort you.  I absoloutly love the VF-1 valks but i can't afford the kind of collection you have, and i'm not really sure i'd have that kind of collection even if i could afford it.

I find it a little worrying that you'd buy that much stuff and not really realize how much it cost you.  every valk i buy i seriously consider before getting it (even when i found my brownie 1/55 i thought long and hard if i'd get more enjoyment out of it than the 35 bucks i paid.

When ever getting into a hobby its VERY important to always realize that you may not stick with it forever.  you (we) should always consider what we buy and not spend say.. money for food..  on something like valks.

When i see a display case with a full line up of MPC's,

what looks to me to be 4 or 5 1/48's and a host of other action figures in a very nice display case;  i think one of two things:

    a.  Huge, dedicated macross fan

    or

    b. someone with no restraint for their wants.

if you find yourself looking at your collection and feeling remorse rather than satisfaction, i would encourage you to not complain about how much the company is selling its product for and focus more on controlling how you buy things you may not get much enjoyment out of.

sometimes the desire for a "complete set" can be greater than the satifaction of actually owning the "complete set"

and you gotta ask yourself "do i really need this stuff???"

    361299

The answer is "a - Huge, dedicated macross fan". Trust me, I do not feel any remorse when I look at my collection. I am very much satisfied and I enjoy collecting. I was just wondering why the prices keep going up and if everyone feels that they are still worth the high prices. I complain because I want them to be cheaper...so that I can buy more! At the rate the prices are going up, I will have to stop if it gets ridiculously high. That's pretty much what I'm saying, and I definitely do not regret anything that I have gotten (ok, except maybe the cms 3 flower girl).

  8. Looks like this thread got hijaked into a scale discussion, haha. OK then, has anyone actually verified that the VF-0 will be bigger than the VF-1? Has the actual measurement of the toy been published yet? Right now, all I see are prototype pictures. No one has the actual toy to take measurements, right? Did Yamato send out the measuremets yet? I don't remember seeing any side by side comparsion shots with a 1/48 VF-1, so are we all sure it's going to be bigger? Are we just assuming the 1/60 VF-0 will be bigger based on line-art specs? Where did people get these line specs anyways, and how do we know these specs are accurate? It would be so funny if we all think we are getting a bigger product and it turns out to be as small as a 1/60 VF-1. Then, going back to this thread's original topic, the 1/60 VF-0 would be so not worth it!

  9. I seriously feel at has something to do with the fact there is no competition. When a rival company can compete you see prices drop in order to stay alive. I am amazed at what I can buy with my money when there are sales on videogames and take into account the healthy secondhand market for quality titles. Why? Because there is so much to compete against for consumer dollars and market dominance. But when I look at yamato toys, I know it is being paid at a premium.

Will fans get ripped off and love it? Yes. Because they are fans and fans are usually the most desperate to own something even if they knew they paid more than they should have for something.

Having said that, you can't question the actual quality of the 1/48. I love it (20 years and we finally have a detailed valk) and I think if they were cheaper more people would buy them and open the door to others who are not as hardcore into macross as the people on this board. (ie they will see it and buy it on impulse similar to how people buy alternators when browsing the toy section)

    359491

Interesting point regarding competition. I can't remember, but did Yamato start producing and releasing more stuff once Toynami's materpiece collection started coming out? And did Yamato production start slowing down when they realize Toynami wasn't really good competition?

  10. its funny that no one commented on the middle-man's part/role in jacking up the price..

    359574

'Jacking up the price' is a bit harsh word to say. No to imply that I am offended in any way but the middleman has to make money to run his/her business and operations. Some people have higher overheads vs others and therefore reflects in the final sale price of the item(s).

Has there been a big price difference over the year in what Yamato is charging retailers? For example, fast packs were like $45 a couple of years ago and now it going for $65. Is this because Yamato is charging more or are retailers making more profit?

  11. display7yp.jpg

    359482

yeah!!! love the display case.... where'd u get it?? and how much???? along w/ buying all these expensive toys.... finding a nice way to display also matters....

    359594

The display case cost about the same as a 1/48 valk! hahaha. See what I mean about the crazy prices. I got it off Craig's List from some surfer dude for $150. He was using it to display his surfing trophies. Guess he wasn't that good, cuz he only had 2 tropies in the entire case.

  12. Recently, I told a friend that a single 1/48 valk was about $150 and he asked why a "toy" can be so expensive? I honestly couldn't answer him, other than saying, because they're SICKKK! I looked at my display case and realized that I must have spent well over $2,000 for all the Macross stuff (see picture). For that price, I could have bought more food, clothes, hookers, ipods, a psp, and a bunch of other stuff. Why are Yamato toys so expensive? With the average 1/48 valk selling for an average price of $150 now, are they really worth the price? I mean they're nice and everything, and I'm looking forward to the new releases, but are they $150 nice? I also collect action figures and spending $150 will get me a butt load of really cool figures! I can't think of any other transforming, giant robot type toys being so expensive. Masterpiece Prime Transformer went for around $90. I have some 12 inch gundams that cost me only $45 each. They are about the same size as the 1/48 valk, same amount of plastic (less diecast parts), and come with tons of accessories. Yet for $45, I can barely buy a Yamato display stand! Why the huge price difference? The plastic quality? The engineering and research? The quality control? The packaging? The demand? To me, the 1/48 should be $80 toys...$100 max. Are we just paying Yamato more because they can get away with it or can they actually justify the high prices? What price would enough be enough for you to stop buying? For me, if it goes beyond $175, I'm done.

  13. Here's Max and Hikaru with their heads switched. The shoulder pads and chest plate from the collection 3 figure is much more detailed. The shoulder pad has groves were the black line is. While in collection 1, the black lines were just slopply painted on. The chest piece and belt from collectiom 3 also have more dimension to them.

  14. Last week I got the entire CM's Macross collection Part 3. Thanks to Vanpang for bringing them all the way from Malaysia while he was traveling to California. He's a great guy. I have to say, the figures themselves are getting better in quality. The details and the paint jobs are much better than the first 2 series. Here's Max in flight suit. Max is the same height as Hikaru. Roy is one tall Focker.

    dagang0cy.jpg

  15. I just wanna know how we can get 4 Roy releases but not get a re-issue of the Hikkie 1S....

    327476

    Don't worry man.

If there's one thing that is for sure, Yamato is a company that loves money. If the opportunity is there, they'll take it. I think that there's just too much stuff at the moment, so take it easy and wait.

    327932

So far, i think they re-issued every 1/48 except the low viz, 1S hikkie, and the TV max/miriya. The low viz is limited, so that will probably not come out again. The TV max and miriya were not hot sellers. So I have a feeling the 1S hikkie will be the next announced re-issue.

  16. Wow, over 3 hundee these days. Isn't that low viz prices? Quick, everyone slap a 1S head on your 1A Hikkies and sell, sell, sell! That means I can possibly trade my 1S for a low viz? Seriously, would anyone consider selling their 1S and use that money to buy a low viz? It's worth considering since the low viz is limited and the 1S might be re-releashed sometime in the future.
