I know Mechamaniac was one of the translators for the version I have. He stops by this forum every once in awhile.

AUGHHHH! My eyes! My eyes!!! (The goggles do nothing...!)

i'm sorry man, but twenty five years of space plane adventures doesn't hold a candle to fanfics
I was about to say something about fanfics and you beat me to it while I was at school today!

I guess you can say that if you have an appetite for answers to those burning questions about existing characters, then look up some fanfics and see what other people have come up with as possible outcomes. Yes, most of them are terrible, but you come upon good ones from time to time.
Fanfics do a good job of filling in those little niche storylines that you wanted to see stretched out some more in whatever series it is that you're watching. Since the general premise is that some people don't want to see more stories about the same characters, they can remain happy with what the Macross franchise has offered so far. The others, whom want to hear more stories about their favorite characters in that series, can read all about it in fanfics. Hell, they can produce their own fanfics, if they are so inclined. That's what I did (am doing).
I liked the way one of my friends put it, "Fanfics are like starter kits for writers. The characters and story are already there for you to use; you just have to come up with your own ideas."

I'm not an expert on printing, by any means. My knowledge comes from watching the process being done (I was doing accounting work for that company, but I did help out with manual labor in the shop from time to time). The PRINTING process itself is more expensive when you have to deal with more colors. CMYK requires a 4-color press, while B&W requires only 1... we used two-color presses. However, the BINDERY work done is completely arbitrary. The machine had many different hoppers for each page to bind and you could put whatever you want anywhere you want on the hopper assembly to organize the pages in any way you wanted.
You could print black and white on a 4-color press if you wanted to, but it would be cheaper to just do it on a 1 or 2 color press... it would just consume more energy to run a 4-color press and the operator would probably cost more since he is a bit more skilled than a 2-color press operator.
My point was that you said that the bindery work would cost more to insert color pages here and there. I am saying that it doesn't matter, but I could be wrong if they are using a binding process that I have not witnessed myself. The bindery machine we had did mostly saddleback binding. We outsourced the really complex binding jobs like books and the such...
If I am assuming this correctly, they take the harder outer cover of the manga book, and possibly glue the inside pages onto the spine of the cover. If that's the case, you'd just need to place each individual page in the right order on the sorting machine and it would put all of the pages together in the predetermined order and then you just glue them to the cover. Wash, rinse, repeat...
-
When I worked at a printing company, it was easy to put whatever pages in wherever you wanted on the binding machine. Inserting a color page anywhere you wanted was no big deal. Perhaps we just used a completely different bindery machine than the publishers of MtF.

Yeah, I'm thinking that this is one of those "Let's not get too literal and just enjoy the show" moments. There's no official explanation and it's all left up to the imagination of the viewer.

Grace is older than the "main 3" characters...

Yes, and the um.... "relationship" she had with Leon was kind of interesting. It just didn't get enough of the spotlight, I guess. The way I see it, Leon was messing around with her. I wonder what that would have been like!

I still "lol" at the "Baddest Black Man in Outer Space" clip. The "2001: A Space Odyssey" reference was the best part. Turntable... lol.

Which, I'm not looking forward to, as I was disappointed with the protagonists and antagonists of MF. Maybe I've outgrown the target demographic? For shame!
Holy crap, Sketchley. I agree with you wholeheartedly here. I was actually thinking of just coming out and saying it in one of these movie threads: I'm sick of being bombarded by Alto, Sheryl, and Ranka! There, I said it!
I very much love the more "adult" characters in the series. Ozma, Cathy, Klan, and Michael are my faves. I know Michael is 17, but he's wise beyond his years. Honorable mentions go out to Bobby, Captain Wilder, Monica, Kanaria, and I guess Brera... even though Brera was quite a pain in the ass throughout the series.
*exhale* Okay, I said it. I feel better now.

Meh... needs moar Klan, Cathy, Michael, etc... Oh, and Ozma owns. That is all.

"We're sorry, our current service is not available in your country"?? What a tease...

I'm just gonna bump this thread because the release date is almost here. Oh, the anticipation...!

Of course, I see that Keith threw in his unbiased two cents on the reader discussion at the bottom. REPRESENT!

Huh... I should have recognized Bosch as Ichigo's voice in Bleach too... He also does Lelouch in Code Geass. Ha! He also grew up in the town in which I grew up and currently live.
I had to look up Milly's English voice actor because I knew her from some series that I had seen many many times. Which is why I thought that maybe it was Rebecca Forstadt, whom has also done a couple of voices for other series I've seen many times... such as Mihoshi Kuramitsu in Tenchi Muyo. I still can't really figure out why I've heard her voice a lot. I guess it was from Big O...

-

Why does it look like the monster is showing off his giant metallic phallus?
-
You're right.. sounds just like the original voices. The dude who did Vash was also the guy who did Kaneda in Akira. I remember that Vash's brother is done by the guy who voiced Tetsuo from Akira as well. Millie Thompson... why does her voice sound familiar? Is that Minmei's voice from Robotech? Uhh... Rebecca Forstadt?
-
I hope they aren't planning on redubbing the voices. I have hated Funimation's work since they took over DBZ and screwed up all of the voices. Nobody can even come close to Brian Drummond as Vegeta. I want my Ocean Group back!

AFAIK, the head doesn't really transform. It's already in the right spot. The section in front of the head basically folds downwards to latch onto the nose portion of the craft, which reveals the head for battroid use.

This show, despite all of its issues, was really enjoyable to watch. I mean there was a certain ridiculousness to the concept, like the fact that they were pilots but also infantry
, but in many ways did show helped make Sci-Fi realism cool. For instance, humans still used tracked and wheel vehicles, and rifles were still rifles, none of that laser/phaser BS. This idea of "using what works" goes on to rear its head in more memorable franchises like BSG and Halo.Don't forget their "LIDAR".

I was shopping Amazon for toys and they seem remarkably affordable... even the VF-25F, VF-25G, and RVF-25 were around 90 bucks, minus shipping. However, the Chogokin DX models are much more expensive and I was curious as to what makes them so much more. Ozma's armored VF-25S was 325 bucks, iirc. They look gorgeous!

Technically, they weren't created or named in tandem. The Prometheus was first seen in SG1 season 6, and the Daedalus in SGA season 2 (equivalent of SG1 season 8, if my math's right).
Well, my point is that there are an infinite number of naming combinations that they could have used, but they chose those two. I'm just pointing out the fact that it's just too convenient to be coincidental. If it is purely coincidence, then I look forward to the universe ending very soon.

Macross draws inspiration from Greek myth! zomg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daedalus
Now, the real question is: did the producers deliberately choose the names as they are anime fans - and Macross is one of the more recognizeable ones?
I know that those names come from Greek mythology, smartass...

What I mean is that they used both names in tandem, even though those two mythological figures aren't really related to each other.
-
They named the ships Daedelus and Prometheus in SG? Is there some kind of reason those two ships are so closely related in naming conventions, or are they just drawing inspiration from SDF-Macross? (or did SDF-Macross draw inspiration from an earlier work?)

I agree about Macross Plus being the best example of what would make a better overall "feel". It seems like all of the anime shows that I see here and there are always putting in obvious forms of fanservice. Kind of gets me irked whenever I see them crop up in a show that I was just starting to enjoy.
