  1. I was especially looking for infos from Macross Chronicle (I don't have the issues myself) since I've already read that many linearts appeared there for the first time after years. Well thanks for the confirmation Seto Kaiba, I think that it's unlikely that this unit was mentioned in some other book or other publication but it wouldn't have been bad for Studio Nue to tell us at least its model number.
  2. I've just finished Macross 7 and I started re-watching Dynamite when I noticed this Valkyrie (well if I can call it a Valkyrie, I don't know if it can transform): The head design looks completely different from the VT-1C featured in the anime or the DTRL VT-1 so I think it's a completely different worker type. Do you know if it was ever assigned a name and/or a model number?
  3. Do you think that they can deploy enough soldiers in various large cities? Especially in the initial phase of a war? Maybe only China could deploy enough soldiers for such an operation.
  4. The same was true for jet/rocket equipped aircrafts and for missiles during WWII. They were developed by the the countries that in the end (not only for this reason but it could be considered one; the Hitler's mania for an ultimate weapon) lost the war yet they became the backbone of every post-war army. They couldn't be viable during a war (and in fact in Macross Zero it was the anti-UN that developed their Valkyries with warfare in mind, the VF-0 was merely a prototype) but they could always keep being developed after some nation deploy them experimentally in a war. It could operate with an hit and run strategy in turn with other squadron of Valkyries. And being shoot down by the anti-air artillery while dropping, right? A Valkyrie after dropping some bomb could land and finish the work immediately without giving time to the enemy to reorganize, for example it could be effective against bunkers, first destroy the enemy surface structures and then blow the final blow in one single action. At least in Macross Valkyries are quite fast and keep a lot of mobility in GERWALK. A 10-15m Valkyrie (we are in 2010 but people in the U.S. still can't us the S.I., maybe we'll truly never get Valkyries....) could easily use a building as cover inside a city or a jungle or the like in a equatorial region.
  5. While in a mode they can always change to another to take advantage of the unique features of each mode, at least if you look at the F-14 vs SV-51 you can see that a fighter will never be able to shoot at its back with the same speed of an humanoid robot. While in GERWALK it could easily change to battroid and take advantage of terrain cover or in fighter and fight back the enemy fighters. The armor problem can probably solved only via Overtechnology (energy conversion armor) but the same is true for the engine that solve/reduce to a minimum the problem for fuel but isn't realistic at all; of course without those two technology my theory that they are better because they can change (like in a rock-paper-scissor game against an adversary that can't change his hand ) is completely pointless.
  6. But even if it can make it much better it's a little hard that tanks will start to fly thus increasing their possible course of action. Right now taking something like a tank in enemy territory require logistic support from some neighbouring state (something that current super-power can easily do right now but you never know for the future) and even so it become a pain in the a** to keep it in best conditions. A fighter/bomber could drop how much bomb you want but usually you'll just hit civilians except you use overkill weapons like nukes or the likes and so you can be sure. And everyone know that helicopters with their limited height and speed limits can be easily destroyed by an RPG or the like (someone said stingers ; joke apart it really happened a lot of times in both recent and older wars). Something that can put together these three units can easily solve the limit of each weapon. Surely it wouldn't be cheap effective but aircrafts weren't cheap when they were introduced and they are becoming only more expensive yet they are widely used.
  7. Initially I had the same problem and I skipped Gundam Vs Gundam for a lot of time, then I gave it a try and I liked both the combat mechanism and the presence of "underestimated" series like Gundam X. I didn't like that much Next Plus mainly because I preferred the new input system of Gundam vs Gundam rather than the old one that was revived for Next Plus.
  8. At 17:10 it couldn't connect, then at 17:40 it loads page but it takes a lot of time; right now (17:46) it seems to work fine. All times are CET.
  9. Lately I've been using "American-English" too but I don't even know the reason, I'm not American, it's a bad habit that I should drop... Anyway back to the topic, at least in the regard of Gundam I've always tought that as space combat units MS are an excellent solution especially because of the AMBAC, provided that you have the technology to build them. Valkyries were made with space combat in mind as well so we could say the same thing in this regard (of course you're right if you say that a dedicated unit will perform better with the same technology but the flexibility of a transforming unit has its own advantages). I have my own doubts about land-warfare but especially Valkyries with the GERWALK should have huge advantages over slow tanks or weak helicopters. Of course Over-technology is a big caveat, for example to keep the unit light but with a strong armor they need energy conversion armor (that someway remind me of Phase Shift armor from Gundam Seed) and the thermonuclear reactor is something you can just dream of (even though in Macross Zero they make fly VF with conventional jet engines....). Anyway some use of over-technology applied to existing units can be found in Macross, for example the Dragon II fighter but of course it's a residual category (mainly explained with the "humanoid units are cooler" in real life and with the "VFs are more flexible so we don't need anything else" in the metaverse). Even so keep in mind that I'm so in love with humanoid mechas that my friends tease me saying me "don't worry it's all true" because I talk about this matter almost it's like something that really exist (or will exist) so don't worry too much about my opinion... EDIT: I was almost forgetting but one of the few existing technology that is still used in Macross are unmanned aircrafts even though in the '80s they weren't still used (I believe mainly because of communication and software problems). And in fact in Macross Plus it was decided that they were better than VF even though they can't transform, maybe even Kawamori think that those VFs are useless (but I don't want to believe it).
  10. The VF-0D linearts that has been uploaded to archivescans is roughly 1900x3400 (the battroid part of the page) but I'm almost sure that actually you've already seen it, I'll upload it just in case. P.S.: I can't upload the file using the attachments menu, I've tried it twice but it doesn't seem to work.
  11. Yahoo gives me the impression that they don't really need to improve their service since they won't able to surpass Google but they will probably retain their market share (but they are just too optimistic if they are really thinking that way). Anyway thanks for taking care of the root index, the main reason that I think it should be fixed is because your domain scores as first for "macross2" and third (after wikipedia) for "Macross 2" thus it could really help increasing the number of people that will casually find M3 if they see the link in the root page. I'm happy that you already knew about it (and you were aware of the other missing pages too). One other thing that I noticed is that the VF-0D is lacking battroid linearts, is it because you're planning to color them with photoshop, right? But how do you do that? You simply look at the mecha and put a color that is similar? In older post (about VF-11 MAXL Custom) in this thread it looks like that
  12. Too bad about that; I was actually thinking that being something like a "fan speculation" it could not be added but it's not easy to find information about this matter (that it's quite important for old school SF imo); well we could ask MrMarch if it's interested in adding it to the macrosspedia (if I'm not wrong in M3 unconfirmed informations are added but they are labeled in green). EDIT: my English becomes even more poor when I'm sleepy; I hope that this post is decent enough now.
  13. Ahem, the site seems hosted on Yahoo so I must assume that they are chimpanzees, right? If so I fully agree with you, I just tried opening my yahoo mail with my PSP and it does a truly stupid thing: first it will redirect me (automatically, no possible overriding) to m.yahoo.com then it will say that my browser isn't supported... they have an option to suggest your browser as a supported one but I don't think that I'm the first person ever doing that....
  14. Thanks to both for the explanation. Actually I would have never thought that they are using MHD maybe we should put this info (as well as a basic explanation of the thermonuclear reactors in Macross) in the Macross Compendium, what do you think about it?
  15. Really an amazing website, the Macross MAHQ I'd say. There are just some things that I'd like to ask: 1. The Destroid Monster mk I is missing from the Master List; actually I've no idea if there are more missing units. 2. Why the domain root (www.macross2.net) is still showing that message page rather than addressing (or at least linking) to the Macross Mecha Manual page?
  16. One thing that I've always been wondering are the details of the thermonuclear engine of the VFs in Macross. In the case of UC Gundams MSs seems to use the heat of the nuclear reaction to achieve an efficient use of the propellant (this was not true for earlier MSs that used conventional chemical rockets and verniers) but I've always thought that in Macross the engines work differently, for example many VFs are said to be able to have an almost unlimited cruising range in the atmosphere. I've found a partial explanation here under the "The Implementation of the Thermonuclear Reaction Engine" section but I still wonder how they are supposed to work in space; I suppose they have to take some kind of propellant with them (and in fact FAST packs give them additional propellant if I'm not wrong) thus making their range much more limited but I don't remember any reference of this in the series (I could be wrong since too much time passed since I've seen SDF and DYRL...).
  17. Does anyone actually know the reason for these problems?
  18. You wanted to say that everything is better with Basara, that show was apparently a big success. Unlike Frontier's omake of Zero this animation seemed to be something made in a hurry and it's less consistent with the original animation; surely they were thinking something about the Zaentradi units but I won't exclude actually that they had some unit in the fleet , they were used by the NUNS for some time and they were still used by Zaentradi troops (but it could have be a museum unit too, just to give an example). Or maybe they were going to put some poor makeshift equipment on some VF-11 (and of course that being not showed in the anime doesn't mean anything since they could have just made a separate scene).
  19. It's not the case since in episode 14 they show the "movie" (around 10:30), Gamlin is watching it.
  20. The "poor girl" is at least around her 50s and she had still enough gut to scream back to Basara that reminded her of her age I've always enjoyed Miria's lesson to Basara about GERWALK even though he doesn't seem to learn when he has to switch between the various mode for the entire series, even Varuda's army, in this episode, seems to be better than him yet he's always considered a skilled pilot (later on by Gamlin too, but even Max mentioned that at the beginning but we never get an explanation about how he learned to pilot a Valkyrie, maybe Ray is his teacher? One thing (slightly unrelated) that I must say is that the entire event of City 7 separated from Battle 7 was a little too long but maybe it's just me.
  21. If I'm not wrong in Macross 7 (not in the anime itself, I've read that it was stated in some kind of linear notes) Exedol is said to have some kind of implants (probably in the brain) that were removed once (when he became Britai's ambassador) but he wanted them again because he feared that he could start losing his memories (waaay larger than any HDs XD). If that's so we could suppose that the higher ranking Zentraedis received some kind of surgery to various degree. EDIT: of course "Meltrandi" (or female Zaentradi depending on the setting XD) are left out just because they must look nice.
  22. Today (23/03) from at least 17:45 to around 18:10 CET; I could acces the website, the main page of the forum and my control panel but not the subforum sections.
  23. I'd like to ask if I can upload the patch for episodes 8,10-16 somewhere (mediafire for example) after compressing them (I'm sure that those 279 MB will compress really nicely); I suppose that people with FAST connections like private trackers but for unlucky guys that had to live in a country where your upload speed is 50 KB/s it's not that nice (other the fact that usually it's a pain to simply get connections when you're so slow because peers will usually prefer better connections); Anyway thanks to xeros and ericf for their great work.
  24. Thanks, it can be useful for newbies (actually when I logged I was thinking that the description was already here and I was telling myself: you're such a big idiot ). EDIT: I've just noticed that the higher resolution video that I've uploaded has no dialogs, sorry.
  25. Not that I'm SOOOO interested but what is the other series other series feauter in the video? Anyway there was also an higher resolution version (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10034706) I've uploaded it to mediafire if anyone care: http://www.mediafire.com/?jczmmhojyzl Back to the topic, does anyone know a possible release date for the first movie BD?
