  1. This is the weirdest fandom where people can say “I don’t totally love it, I’ll only get two.” 😛

But seriously, YF-21 is my favorite Valkyrie design, but this, just no. Yamato needed beefier legs, but the rest looked perfect to me. The DX has the legs… but is off in so many more ways. The trade off is not worth it.

Getting back OT, I hope Bandai makes some sort of PO announcement soon. Warts be damned, we've waited far too long for a new YF-21 and overall, as I've said since this thing was frst intro'd, I'll take it as-is if only b/c the battroid proportions look better to me, at least so far as the legs go.  That said, I'd be thrilled to no end if Arcadia tweaked the nigh-perfect Yamato design to have thicker legs that look more proportionally correct even if it means the jet has a slightly fatter back end; that's a concession I'll take all day long.

    That’s exactly what I would’ve wanted too.

Has anyone had success tightening up the hips on their DX VF-25 toys (either renewal or revival)? All I've every done is torque the screw a little harder but has anyone popped the screws out and done anything internally and really liked how it came out?

Yes, I removed the screw and coated the internal ball joint with floor polish then reassembled. I did this a year or so ago, and it's still holding up very well with the super pack. I don't have the armored pack so I don't know if it's strong enough for that.

It's interesting to note that Max showed up in a YF-29, rather than a VF-24. Supposedly, he's flying the most rare, most performance enhanced VF(YF) currently in existence. I find it hard to believe the average VF-24 can out perform the YF-29. Of course we don't know anything about the VF-24, other than "it's a thing". Another interesting point about Max showing up in a YF-29, is that it is a known VF and we instantly recognize it. Also Bandai's gets to sell us more of those. Which may have had something to do with why Max shows up in a YF-29, rather than the unknown VF-24.

Me too. I conjecture that the intent was that the YF-29 is suppose to look and be the uber fighter, but someone wrote a note about the VF-24 in a publication and on-screen intent and written fact don’t match up. This happens a lot, especially in Delta.

I recall that while flipping through the book, it showed a VF-31 body with basically YF-29 wings and wingtip engines, of course, I could do no more than say Cool! As I don’t read Japanese.

it is a bit baffling to think that a Variable Fighter could have a 100/1 thrust to weight ratio. I cannot wait for your thoughts when you have had a chance to read through the book.

Could you share a picture of this if able?

Some other interesting revelations from the VF-31AX Master File concerning the YF-29 Durandal.

It alleges the existence of three separate and mutually exclusive YF-29 specifications:

    • YF-29A - The Macross Frontier fleet's YF-29 seen in Macross Frontier: the Wings of Farewell.  This version is the original YF-29 specification and has the highest performance of the three due to the fleet having acquired fold quartz of the highest purity during the Vajra conflict by harvesting Vajra carcasses.  Only one unit is believed to exist, that being the YF-29 No.1 prototype (Alto's YF-29 from the movie) which was repaired after being damaged in the conflict.
    • YF-29B - Believed to be a copy of the YF-29A Durandal produced on/by Earth.  Codenamed "Perceval".  With no reports that Earth ever recovered any fold quartz approaching the size and quality of that recovered by the Macross Frontier fleet, it is believed to have inferior performance to the YF-29A.
Note: Macross Chronicle refers to the YF-29B's produced on Uroboros as "a state-of-the-art aircraft that improves upon the YF-29 Durendal", implying better performance not worse.
    • YF-29C - An attempt to develop a mass production-worthy YF-29 by Earth(?) which attempted to address the production roadblock of fold quartz scarcity through the use of fold carbon of the very highest purity and quality.  Despite using the very best technology to synthesize fold carbon and the assistance of a scouted jeweler to handpick fold carbon experimentally produced for it, the fold wave generation performance is only 1% of what the YF-29A can achieve.  Operated under the jurisdiction of Apollo Base test flight center on Luna.

Master File declines to explain how, precisely, Max got ahold of a YF-29.  It alleges that Lady M scouted him specifically to liaise with the New UN Forces, and remarks that his YF-29 corresponds to the YF-29B type.

Why would they do B and C if the federal Vf-24 is so uber presumably without the inclusion of fold crystals?

It's not explicitly stated to be, but it's clear from in-story context in official and unofficial material that it is given that it's described in terms like "the strongest naval weapon" and said and shown to be an anti-fleet weapon able to vaporize many ships with a single shot.

Exactly how much more powerful is unclear, because not all Macross Cannons are created equal and not all of them are used to their full potential in their respective stories.  Macross 7's Battle 7 was able to sink half a dozen enemy ships with a near-miss at 80% power from its Macross Cannon.  Battle Frontier seemingly only ever fired low power shots, but used a sweep of a low-power beam to kill hundreds if not thousands of Vajra converging on it during an emergency fold.  Macross 13's gained a scattering beam cannon effect that let it hit multiple enemy ships with a single low-power shot.  It wasn't until Battle Astraea that we got something resembling a full-power shot again, which in that case was projected to do a downright apocalyptic level of damage to Windermere IV just by having the path of the beam pass through the planet's atmosphere on its way to its target.  Variable Fighter Master File's description of the fleet assembled to tackle the Main Fleet that destroyed Spica III included the Battle 7, using its main gun in several sustained barrages to help destroy a fleet with a hundred thousand ships (alongside gratuitous reaction weapon spam).

    By all accounts, probably not.

The incredible firepower of super dimension energy cannons (AKA heavy quantum reaction beam cannons) have some pretty significant drawbacks that make them difficult to use effectively on the battlefield.  They're quite large and unwieldy, taking up a substantial amount of space inside of a ship that could be used for conventional beam weapons and to carry combat aircraft.  The energy requirement to achieve such massive destructive force is substantial and even with dedicated reactors and the support of the power grid on the rest of a large ship, it can take several minutes to charge the weapon to fire.  It also takes several minutes (if not longer) to cool the barrel after firing because the beam is made of fusion plasma from a sustained exotic matter thermonuclear detonation.  You pay for the incredible firepower in the vulnerability of your ship between shots.

The Zentradi, and presumably the Supervision Army as well, use more conventional but still immensely powerful particle beam cannons as their main offensive option for ship-to-ship combat.  In the distant past, they apparently made widespread use of less powerful (in individual terms) but more versatile and spammable thermonuclear reaction warheads launched from battle pods and warships... probably in a manner similar to how the New UN Forces do in the modern day.  The factory satellites producing those munitions were destroyed hundreds of thousands of years ago, and so they make do with conventional munitions to supplement their particle beam cannons.

Golg Boddole Zer, call your agent.

    Okay this sounds reasonable.

We don't know. We've never been given figures on output. It is likely more powerful, but there are factors we need to take into account, mostly due to technological advancements due to time. We can say it's more versatile and technologically better, but that is due to time and design, so an apples-to-apples comparison doesn't work.

Why? Why not just bring a bigger gun and vaporize them ALL?

I mean, yes, this is the most logical way. So whoever fires first just wins?

EDIT: I guess not, per Seto Kaiba.
