[Netflix] ONE PIECE Live Action Series

OK, I had to look up "Dr. Vegapunk"...I thought you were using some kind of euphemism! Anyways, as I said before, I am liking the show so far and thus am willing to "accept" some of the weirdness as long as I continue to stay entertained....plus, I actually like the actors...they play well off each other and especially off of Monkey's inexplicable and inexhaustible positive attitude!- 97 replies

[Netflix] ONE PIECE Live Action Series
jvmacross replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So I started watching One Piece because I'm still paying for Netflix and just finished S3 of The Witcher....so have to try and justify the monthly bill! I have to say I am enjoying it so far....I couldn't get past 2 episodes of the original cartoon so was expecting the worst for the live-action (especially since I couldn't get past the first episode of the last "anime live-action" adaptation on Netflix)....I think I know why I am making it further on the live-action version...and it is mostly for the same reason I can't stand anime in general...the voice actors they use in the dubs are awful and just turn me off from continuing to watch pretty much all recent anime....i like the actors chosen for this show and somehow find myself liking Monkey! He's a "simpleton" as one character described him, but somewhat likeable..and I look forward each time he warns his enemies when they "mess with his friends"....anyways, I think they have captured "enough" of the silliness of the "One Piece World" so it is not completely ridiculous, like the Snail Phone? Can someone explain that....or better yet...don't!....It is just enough weirdness to allow me to suspend disbelief and still manage to enjoy visiting this strange world for an hour or so at a time...- 97 replies

If this is the case...better hope these WWM releases are not edited of SDFM/DYRL content and/or references to placate HG.... Heard this is why the latest Tenjin Udon book has been "delayed"....

Actually, I then proceeded to show how the KC is actually less expensive than a Toynami....by at least $11...an even paltrier sum! 🤑 It actually is pertinent, since both the Toynami's and KC's market is everywhere except Japan.... Of course, you can't include non-SDFM/DYRL HMR merch as it is not "legally" available anywhere outside of Japan....and again, you are wanting to include brick and mortar shops in your argument, so HMR, DX...it's all not available outside of Japan via local retailers...anyways, even if for arguments sake, you included the HMRs....they have been around for years....the Toynami still gets re-released over and over again and sells out..with no improvements other than packaging and accessories...the HMR has yet to bury it after all these years....LOL....I'd be curious to see if they actually decide to re-release them again....and not just as a single show exclusive.... The KCs are now cheaper than the Toynami VF-1 thanks to "shock pricing".....other than nostalgia-induced buys...I cannot see a casual collector selecting a Toynami over a KC these days...- 2490 replies

FB2012 has so much SDFM-DYRL content that perhaps BW received the OK from HG to make available as WWM material only via YT and not via a video release where they could make bigger profits off of it? Where are the "free" episode previews on YT from BW for the rest of the post-SDFM-DYRL shows? LOL

Basically, your statement about shipping "nixing" the comparison between the 1\100 Toynami and the 1\72 KC has been invalidated....also, you came up with local availability as a determining factor that would deter the selection of KC over Toynami....even if Toynamis were as easily available at any comic book shop in the world as you claim...that rules out Macross HMR since you can't get SDFM\DYRL merch outside of Japan...so if you wanted to include HMR as the only direct competition to Toynami...bringing up local availability just defeats the point you are trying to make... It can't be denied that the market for Toynami Robotech-Macross toys is further deteriorated by the introduction of the KC VF-1...it just makes it less appealing when you can potentially buy a KC for less...- 2490 replies

LOL...in a hobby that generally occupies the triple digit entry point...not sure anyone is sweating over 20 bucks... As for finding Toynamis at "comic book shops"...I haven't seen any Macross toynamis locally since the "Masterpiece Collection"...Anyway, in the age of online purchasing...I can't imagine someone deciding to buy a Toynami over a KC just because they can buy one locally...again...never seen one myself at a local store and I live near a major metro area...- 2490 replies

The Toynami Retro VF-1J was being sold for $60 plus $12 to ship....so $72 before tax... The KC VF-1J is being sold for $78 + $14 shipping....$92 total... A difference of only 20 dollars....too close to say that the price would not impact a collector's decision to buy a Toynami over a KC....and this is ignoring that the KC is clearly superior to the Toynami in practically every way...in short, you arguably get way more for your extra $20 in additional cost for the KC than what you gain by saving $20 by picking up a Toynami VF-1... If you went for the Vermillion bundle...the individual price for each KC drops to $51 + $10 shipping ....$61 shipped each....that then becomes less than the price of a single 1\100 Toynami....- 2490 replies

Why pay 152.99 when you can pay $190 for less stuff?! LOL https://www.kitzconcept.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=126 The repack packaging brings express shipping to $61.00...chinese slow boat to $28.00 I assume the pricing is an error and KC needs to fix it to $152.99 for all 3?- 2490 replies

Watched it on "Cinema Day"...$4 per ticket! I actually enjoyed it...will give it a rewatch once it hits Max. I had actually watched the TMNT the week before and I found it funny that both movies included a "milking" scene!

KC's VF-1 was already the better figure....but, yeah....even with the minimal accessory count, the new price point makes the Toynami even more over-priced.... https://www.toynamishop.com/macross-saga-retro-transformable-1-100-vf-1j-ichijo-valkyrie/ Too bad KC did not opt to re-release the repacks in Takatoku-style boxes, I may have been blinded by nostalgia again!- 2490 replies
