  1. Speaking of the eventual double dip <_<

Our good friend Bill Hunt is at it again, and today he has more information regarding the upcoming release of the 'Lord of the Rings' films. This bad news is that when Warner delivers the films sometime late next year, they will be of the theatrical versions of the films. The good news is that this decision was made because director Peter Jackson wants to save the extended versions for a super Blu-ray boxset to be released near the theatrical release of 'The Hobbit'.

With the original extended cut box sets being of the utmost quality, I have high hopes that Jackson will once again produce a magnificent Blu-ray box set for the extended cuts of the film. Until then (which will be about two years if 'The Hobbit' stays on schedule, enjoy the theatricals cuts on Blu-ray sometime next year.

What a bunch of BS. Now I just might wait for the extended versions...

  2. I ripped the R2 DVDs of the OVA and the movie, added the subs (that I found here) and converted them to AVC/M2TS files so I could watch them on my PS3. Came out pretty good.

I had the KAA fansubs of the OVA, they are good but I wanted a rip of the DVDs I already had.

  3. I guess I can hold off on the JP Blu-ray of Sin City. Transformers Extended cut? Megan Fox topless... umm naked?

Our friend Bill Hunt has a few updates on upcoming 2009 Blu-ray releases from studios, as well as a couple new titles coming to fans soon. As previously rumored, Paramount will be bringing the first six Star Trek theatrical films to Blu-ray next year around the time of the next Star Trek film release, which is due to hit theaters in May.

Paramount is also planing to release 'Transformers: Extended Edition' timed with the theatrical release of the second Transformers film.

Disney is planning to release 'Pretty Woman' in February, followed by 'Sin City' sometime there after. There is also talk that 'Armageddon' will see release sometime during the Spring as well.

And finally, astute readers will have noticed that Warner Japan has announced their first four Batman films for Blu-ray release. Warner has yet to confirm a US release, but sources say that they'll be in the US sometime in the Spring.

    * Paramount Star Trek: The Motion Picture

    * Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

    * Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

    * Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

    * Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

  4. I'm not sure if its worth renting again, but theres an end scene featuring Tony Stark and a certain very well known actor playing a very well known Marvel character... :)

    Not directly at you but...

yawn...when will 20-30 something white guys get over his lame tired ass...

  5. According to a post thread by Capcom forum moderator Christian Svensson, Super Street Fighter II Turbor HD Remix has already been submitted to Sony (to Microsoft too, for that matter) for approval. Their target release month is November, which means the game could potentially come out in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, Svensson wasn't able to provide any information regarding whether or not the PSN and XBLA versions will be released simultaneously. Finally, we have even more new screenshots of the game for you in the gallery below.

Come on, Capcom and Sony, bring the game out already!

    Hopefully this is true :D

  6. Hell, I first watched M7 on crappy low res RM files. I'm watching these new files and am amazed at the detail in M7... even in the looped recycled animation I marvel at the panel lines. :p

Ya I remeber watching M7 on VHS fans sub tapes back in 98..brutal

The remastered version looks really good. And like you said, even the recycled scenes lol

  7. My theory on it is perhaps a little unfair...I just assumed that the majority of of people here got into SDFM when they were thirteen or younger, so the idea of a sixteen-year-old piloting a robot seemed, well, perfectly reasonable. Now those same people are in their thirties, and the idea seems a little more ludicrous.

That makes sense. I have to keep reminding myself when I watch Macross Frontier that I'm not the target demographic. Ya old fool.

I was about 7 or so when I first started watching anime. About 10-11 when I first saw Robotech. So teenage pilots made sense. They don't anymore lol but..

My criticism of the teen pilot concept has to do more with the lack of originality than the actual concept itself. I can deal with the silly concept. Same goes for Kawamori's tried & true love triangle.. He used this in Escaflowne too. Any other anime?

The Japanese in general ,whether it be in anime or videogames, have hit a wall when it comes to creativity lately. Alot of their product is just shovelware. Not that the West is much better mind you.

  8. A few criticisms but overall I liked Macross Frontier. Not the greatest anime ever but more enjoyable than Macross 7 ever was.

The animation is inconsistent. This happens in all anime TV series but Macross Frontier can go from great to cringe-worthy all in one episode.

Characters. Too many. Which leads to lack of development. Which then leads to me not caring about them one way or the other. Some are bit anime generic/cliche.

The 14-17 year olds going to school by day and flying mechs by night is a bit silly and tired.

And finally. Drop the love triangle stuff. I know this is the anniversary show..but come on..enough already.

  9. Sigh, I'll say it again. MKV's are simply ahead of their time. The reason people are having trouble with them is because they aren't made for the types of systems most people have. They're made for UBER-SUPER-HIGH-END-EXPENSIVE systems. That said, there is nothing wrong with MKV's and h.264, but the standard from AVI to MKV has happened way before it should have. Fansubbers need to realize this so that in the future, anime fans won't have this problem again. :)

MKV blu-ray rips of Macross Frontier and Macross Zero run pretty good on my e-machine lol hardly a pc powerhouse  updating codecs helps. MPC player with ffdshow decoder made a big difference in performance.

now if only the PS3 could run mkv files...that would save me so much time... <_<

  10. Sorry for posting this kinda off-topic question, but I would really like to know before I buy the PS3.

I need a mkv to mp4 converter, and I came across the mkv2vob converter someone mentioned when I searched the forums. However, I have tried to install several versions yet all failed to install. Then I found this AVS Video Converter which seems good, but it cost $60. My question is, is there any other good mkv to mp4 converter(whether they are free or not)?

btw is there any places to download America TV series like Heroes and Terminator:SCC in mp4 format using bittorrent? From the sites I know all those are only avaliable in mkv format.

Once again sorry for the OT questions as I really really need the answers.

    Try xvid4psp.

    http://www.winnydows.com/news.php

scroll down for the latest version.

you can convert MKV files with that program. It will take some trial and error though. I've converted MKV files to M2TS files for use on the PS3 with good results. Macross Frontier Blu-ray rips look great.

If you have an mkv that doesn't have subs you can do a direct copy with xvid4psp. It will just copy the MKV into whatever format you want. No transcoding.

    and some more info.

  11. My first exposure to anything Macross was Robotech of course(like alot of 80's kids) I came in from outside and saw this plane transform while crashing into a building etc.. the rest is history lol.

The Comico comics were out then. Those were just awful, especially considering titles like The Dark Knight, Secret Wars, X-men etc. were around. They used to make fun of me at the comic store for buying them lol.

And then after finding the truth about Robotech. I started collecting Macross toys, models and artbooks. Being in the midwest(Chicago), that stuff wasn't easy to find back then. Not like today with the internet.

Then the early-mid 90's came. Macross Plus and II. Fansub VHS tapes of Macross DYRL? FB2012 and Macross 7 started hitting here. And then the internet takes off in the late 90's.. The overpriced 1/55 market begins...god I kill to have some of that money back lol

I still dig Macross. I was pleasantly surprised with Macross Frontier
