Huh.  Kinda prefer the old one.  It has more of a penciled look.  The new one looks like too much work was done on computers, and winds up kind of cartoony.

Speaking of cartoons... really looking forward to the X-Men '97 cartoon on Disney+.  As a kid and teenager I loved the X-Men, and I consider the period from the mid '80s to the late '90s to be peak X-Men.  Things started going downhill around Onslaught, but I stuck it out for awhile (and I did enjoy a few stories like House of M), but X-Men and related books became basically unreadable to me since Messiah Complex.

Except for the cheek bones on Cyke being kinda goofy the original is FAR superior to the new one.

I think the animation on the new show looks absolutely terrible too.

For me it was up til early 90’s. I personally couldn’t afford all the constant crossovers and pretty much all the talent left to form image. When I thought about getting back into it when I got my first job in the late 90’s the look was totally off putting to me and I never got back into reading them

The art itself was good too but once they cut Claremont and installed Lee, etc... as the eriters the stories went to garbage and there was no direction.  I blame them for the downslide of the X-Men up to and including today.  X-Men #1 and on there was zero plan and less and less real substance.

    Mega Man.

I'm tempted to check this out but how many damn Mega Man figures do I need between my old Sentinel and the Jada one due to arrive today?  I guess having a comparison would be cool but I'll ber this line goes nowhere nesr as deep as Jada have already planned.

I will never complain that a video game series that is all about different beams and missiles and suits (all visible on screen) doesn’t get any effect packs or repaints from GSC.

I would lose my mind over a Plasma Beam or Super Missile accessory.

[edit:] I'm in for the TotK Link and Zelda. Even if I greatly disliked the game but BotW figures seem to be an impossibility (dare I say BotW Champions?).

Funny thing about that,  on two occasions GSC have made Deluxe versions of Link with every sub weapon imaginable included as well.  Why can't they have a simple blast effect for Samus though.  These are not $20 figures.

We're in agreement about TotK, didn't even bother finishing it.  But it's close enough to the BotW look, and the arm does look cool, that I'll accept it.  I do like Gannondorfs design and will get him as well.

  4. I still think for the 21/22 the only way to really pull it off and improve over the Yammie is to basically have the thing in delimit mode all the time with a plate that covers the area for fighter and would work for internal gun pods on the 22.  Then swap out beefy legs for the other two modes.  Since delimit mode already jettisons the internals like the legs it's a relatively acceptable compromise on a "perfect transformation" that is physically impossible.

Yep, I already plan to have mine displayed in Gerwalk mode most of the time. Gerwalk is my favorite mode overall for most walks anyways since it is one of the main things that made Macross mechs stand out to me in the first place.

Oh, you're the other guy who likes Gerwalk!?  I thought I was alone.

I'm not 100% satisfied with its current design - although I'm stoked it's coming my way - but telescoping or "accordioning" the backpack towards the figure's midline in order to provide full articulation in the shoulders and arms isn't a viable solution here.  Not at this price point using these materials.  And especially not for a figure on this scale.  Not that I'm slavish to the animation, but your proposed solution is not in the line art and it would be a remarkable reimagination of the valk's transformation.  More importantly, no one - not even "cheaper, faster" 3rd and 4th party - would attempt that engineering on this scale.  Look closely at the figure's dorsal surface in battroid mode and just imagine what would be required to collapse the backpack enough to free the shoulders and arms.  Then imagine how many additional hinges/plates that feat would require.  Then imagine how those additional moving parts would impact figure stability in fighter and guardian mode.  It would be even beyond the nightmare experience of transforming the 171.  My take, but someone convince me otherwise.

The massive gap in the back is already not lineart accurate.

I’m betting the gap was a design choice for play value: close the gap -> introduce steric hindrance on the shoulders and arms -> “OMG!? There’s no poseability in the arms!  WTF Bandaid?!?”

Or they could have made that part telescoping so it csn be both accurate and useable instead just stupid and wrong.

To be clear, I love Arcadia products. Anyways, this is why I stated that Arcadia “tweaked” molds. While the SV-51 and VF-19 and VF-0 are not the same molds as Yamato, they are still based on Yamato’s molds and the transformations are basically identical. Arcadia just went in to try to improve them. That seems substantially easier than engineering and creating a perfect transformation from scratch. The VF-5000 is such a design. How many Macross mechs has Arcadia designed from scratch?

They're based on the transformation engineering but not the molds specifically.  Arcadia's first, without any prior experience on the mold, will be the 5000.  That being said the 5000 is kind of a VF-1 and kind of a VF-11 so they're already pretty familiar anyway.
