  1. I don't think Marvel can.

Peter's father is a Spartoi, a species that is related to the Shi'ar and as long as Fox has the X-Men rights, well, you get the idea.

If Marvel and Disney wanted to stick with the comics and have Peter's father as a human-like alien be it Spartoi or any other humanoid species they never would have gone to the trouble of making a CGI hologram of Peter's nervous system showing an abundance of nerves forming a "sun" in his chest to accompany Nova's explanation that Peter is a hybrid between human and an unknown cosmic entity .

Apparently Marvel's writers looked back at the 1977s comics where Peter's ship is essentially a conscious star turned Tardis and saw an opportunity to rewrite this idea into making Starlord a literal "prince of a star being".

For all we know though Peter's father could turn out to be the Beyonder who fits the bill as a cosmic being and bit of an a$$hole when he tries to mingle with mortals.

  2. My personal thoughts on the "Necro" stormtroopers

    1. I think they are really undead in the sense that they can no longer seem to live as fully organic beings because of cybernetic brain implants that enslave them to there master(s). Notice how the “Necro Commander” goes brain dead when Drax busted the implant off the side of his head just as the entire Chitari slave army went brain dead “Phantom Menace style” in Avengers.

    2. They are rusty and old because they have been used up as expendable pawns until they break down or die in there eternal service to there slave master Ronan.

    3. I think there is most definitely a hellish trope angle and its only fitting that Ronan The Accuser, a “Satan; the Accuser” archetype of darkness, has a dark army of the undead to oppose Starlord and his "forces of light".

I also personally hope they never reveal the father. To do so would IMHO ruin a lot of the magic and mystery of having Star-Lord being a modern allegory to the "Son of the sun god" mystery story that has has been passed down since the "dawn" of civilization.

  3. DuelGundam2099, on 03 Aug 2014 - 19:04, said:I have some nitpicks as to why the heroes get back stories while the villains are incredibly vague (Why is Thanos considered so powerful? What is Nebula's origin? How was Ronan's family killed?).

I disagree I saw plenty of backstory and explanation for the villains.

I remember at-least 3 separate times in the movie where Gamaora, Nebula, and the Nova Corps Officer explain that Thanos has ravaged many worlds and/or murdered countless families. That tells viewers right there he is not just some local space thug like Ronan, but an emperor in scale. Then to top it off Thanos just looks intimating as a purple alpha male gorilla in space.

Nebula origin story is identical to Gamora, except with more cyborg surgery punishment at the hands of Thanos.

In Ronan's first appearance he explains in monologue that he will never forgive the fact that his great great great grandfather or something was killed in a war a thousand years ago. So its not important how Ronan's distant family member(s) were killed at all. What is important is that Ronan is explained as a “crazy nut” that has not moved on from ancient history.

  4. Alright, I'm going to officially start a new kick starter next month. It's going to be to pay for a high end lawyer, to do the leg work, to kick HG out of the "Macross" world, and back to the only thing they actually own.. which is to the animation, distribution, and merchandising rights of SDFM.

Big West, Nue and Tatsu already battled it out in japan, they own the rights to "Macross", and that HG only owns the rights on SDFM. However HG started sending out C&D's to the other companies that were bringing over M2 and M+, saying they owned the rights to "Macross"... they also trademarked several "Macross" related names here in the US to keep anyone else from doing so.

Essentially HG is a snake of a company, that used false tactics to insinuate that they have these licenses, when they don't. Just like when HG threatened to sue Hasbro for the Jetfire/VF-1J toy.. it was a empty threat. My idea is one of two. Either higher a lawyer to do the leg work to get

and official stance from BW and Nue on the Macross rights for North America.. and Europe since HG also claims they own that as well!

Or get enough money to pay for lawyers to basically... run HG out of legal money.

I'm working on the logisitics of both currently.

If you want to join in, I will need a few admins to help run the KS.

*my Lawyer buddy just gave me a better idea, essentially begin work on a "live action fan made" Macross Plus or 7 adaptation.

Wait for the C&D from HG, and then challenge them, they will actually have to prove it. which means they spend the money to

prove that they own the rights.

The Kickstarter would actually be for the production of the film, with the intent to use the money to fight HG.

Just have to word that carefully so anyone funding knows the money may be switched to legal funds.

What about a Kickstarter with the goal of a legal compromise with HG instead of a drawn out Legal battle? We Macross fans could raise money for the expressed purpose of paying HG their trademark fees in exchange for allowing Big West and US Distribution companies to import Macross Frontier, 7, DYRL you name it to the States. It would be a Win for everyone... including yes the HG corporation we love to hate. But ask yourselves would you rather spend a few bucks now to satisfy a trademark fee you grumble about or twiddle your thumbs for possibly decades in hoping that something will change and someone else will deal with it? And just think of the big positive message it would send to companies like Corporate Leadership of Funimation, Section 23, Viz Media, etc that Macross fans are so enthusiastic for a chance to buy Macross in America.

  5. "I thought the punishment happened after the crime." So I am going to save criticism until if and when Harmony Gold actually does something wrong. For now I think using kickstarter is actually a brilliant move. Instead of running the risk of losing money through piracy and online file-sharing of the final product you get the fans to fund the media production up front then hand them out there DVDs later as part of the rewards package.

"Please fund our new series so you can go out and buy it on video." Double dipping at its finest!

Not if your one of the first 250 backers to pledge $20 or more.

    "Pledge $20 or more

CORPORAL 1ST CLASS: For the first 250 backers, you'll get a digital copy of the "Robotech Academy" pilot..."

  6. hard shell foot soldiers being controlled in a hive mind with a queen does evoke images of the Invid..

I will give you that the Robotech version (which introduced many of us to the Original source material) did invoke a portrayal of a queen led hive mind with her constant voiceover explaining the Invids' actions and filling in the silent moments.

Anyway I feel things have gotten a bit off topic... Scans the interwebs for more Macross easter eggs...

  7. Looks more like an Invid to me but so does Vajra..

Aside from the organic shaped armor I don't see how the insect Vajira and crab Invid mecha look anything alike. None of the Invid mecha had thoraces, wings, segmented eyes or antennas of insects. On top of that all Invid mecha and the Invid foot soldiers themselves were shown with only two legs.

  8. Hank Pym was never meant to be depicted as a wife beater according to the comic writer Jim Shooter:

"In that story (issue 213, I think), there is a scene in which Hank is supposed to have accidentally struck Jan while throwing his hands up in despair and frustration—making a sort of “get away from me” gesture while not looking at her. Bob Hall, who had been taught by John Buscema to always go for the most extreme action, turned that into a right cross! There was no time to have it redrawn, which, to this day has caused the tragic story of Hank Pym to be known as the “wife-beater” story."

Who the hell is Ant Man?

  9. "decommissioned left and right" by whom? The US has gotten rid of about 100 missiles in the last 30 years. There are still 450 MMIIIs active 24/7.

Why would you need to "perch" them like that? What possible tactical reason could there be for that?

Decommissioned by the US military to scale back cost. They don't need as many ICBM bunkers as they used to thanks to upgrades and stealther mobile rollout vechiles kept hidden from satelite view.

Air lifting missile batteries to the roof of the wall is the most practical construction method. The anti-Kajun walls were made with solid concrete over a steel frame with zero portholes or hollow points for weapon placement. Afterall the politians running what was left of the UN had lost there will to fight and just wanted to wall off the Kaijun as cheaply as possible.

  10. No I mean like tactical missile battery turrets theoretically perched right on top of solid concrete wall sections and that unload there ammo until the monster of the week falls over dead. ICBMs have the luxury of being hidden away in carved out bunkers as a one-shot weapon for the rare event of nuclear war, but even still are being decommissioned left and right because they are so expensive to fund.

  11. 1. Why no Japanese Jaeger?

The Japanese Jaeger was the one in Maeko's childhood memory with the shoulder mounted cannon. It was K.I.A. two years after Gypsy was severly damaged in Alaska.

Nukes should have been the answer and you wouldn't have needed big giant robots. Submarines circling off the rift with nuke torpedos hitting Kaiju as they came out should have been just as effective. THEN send in the giant robots.

Effective yes, but that would also completly posion the hell out of the Pacific Ocean and everyone there with cumalitive radiation pollution.

    The question I have is:

Striker Eureka has 6 anti-Kaiju missiles that if it can get off basically spell the end of any Kaiju. Why the hell aren't there anti-Kaiju missiles batteries all around the pacific rim and on destroyers and whatnot? It would have made the wall a much more viable option.

Back in the Korean and Vietnam wars the US military equipped its jets with ONLY missiles for dogfights. It was a huge diaster with missiles often missing, malfunctioning, and running short on ammo too soon. If missiles fail for whatever reason said missile battery would be dead while the Striker can still wristblade the Kaiju to death.

Missile batteries on walls would be sitting ducks and a complete logistacial nightmare to stock and maintain if spread over thousands of miles in coastline defense zones. Destroyers would not stand a chance againist underwater Kaiju. Submarines with rotatiing turrents might do better though.

  12. Why would they build another ship right behind the other...in the same pool of water??? Why? Don't answer that. I know the answer. "Cuz it's Robotech."

And to bring this slightly in line with the thread, that would be something they could address in a movie.

Maybe Carl Macek got the idea in part from Space Battleship Yamato? Haven't seen the show in years, but I vaguely remember love the Yamato spaceship was built/remodelled right underneath the remains of the WWII Yamato. Too bad we will never get a chance to ask Carl himself, but its a thought.

  13. yea, lighting is not my strong point, that's the key to realism

Get a copy of Digital Lighting and Rendering if you can. It is THE book on professional Hollywood lighting for 3D rendering.

  14. So the fact that Vader was built up as this ultimate Jedi killer prior to the prequels, but in Episode III he just kills kids while the almighty Jedi clan falls to a bunch of clones that can't aim, doesn't bother you guys?

Yes and no. On one hand had it certainly tarnishes the image of Vader as the ultimate Jedi killing machine, but on the other hand it is fitting because that is exactly the cowardice and destruction of innocence that evil typically resorts to.
