  1. Holy smokes...I forgot how ugly that thing is.

I just went through and looked all all those images a few times, just to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Looks like a go-bot in helicopter mode.

Good luck with this project and all though. I've got some favorites that will never see the light of day, so I'm pulling for this underdog project. It'd be nice to see someone get that model they've been burning for for 20 years.

Bump for interest. I think this would be reaaally cool to see. I'm in for one.

  2. Yes it is life size, 3 Ft. long! There are some much better pics of it at sideshowtoy.com (I only have a crappy web cam at the moment). Even those pics don`t quite do it justice. It`s much darker in person and the detail is as you said superb.

Can you post the link to the item on sideshow? I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

  3. Anyone want mine? If you pay shipping it's yours (although I'm lazy, so the shipping is gonna be fedex which I can do from work, so it'll be more than USPS).

It's so bad, I don't even want it taking up space in my dvd collection, and that's pretty bad considering Atragon is still in there, and that's pretty lame.

Phyrox: I'll buy it, got paypal?

  4. Here's one I just did. I tried it a few ways and screwed up the underside of the nose of the plane, please ignore that cut and focus on what I ended up with.

I wanted to raise the nose/chest up higher in battroid so it doesn't slouch down so much. What I ended up with was drilling a small hole in the tip of the underside lip between the nose and the crotch piece. I put a small piece of safety pin in there and drilled another hole on the underside of the nose further back than the notch that this part normally connects too.

This did 2 things. First it removed all of the floppiness in the nose part of the chest when in battroid (because it secures the two pieces together rather than relying on gravity. Second it raise the chest up higher so it's more level, and not pointing down so much. Also, the pin doesn't need to be removed. It hides perfectly in fighter mode.

A few prefaces before you look at the pics. The gap you see in battroid can be shortened by cutting down the safety pin, which I intend to do after this post. I already mentioned the cut I did above and messed up the underside of the nose. If you just want to secure the nose to the chest, and don't want to raise it up, you can use the normal spot that this piece connects to. This will make this mod 100% invisible. Finally, this does not get rid of all the floppiness in the chest, because half of that problem is caused by the chest not locking to the nose in any way. I'll look into a fix for that next.

  5. Any spray cap will do.

    Here's what I did...

Downloaded Takatoys template, printed it, and cut it out.

Took a piece of blue painter's tape, and taped around the section of cap.

Traced the template onto the tape and cutout the piece of plastic.

From there, you will have to trim it to closer fit, and you will have to bend it more than it's standard arc. However, once you bend it, it will retain it's shape.

    Thank you!

  6. I guess I'm misunderstanding how to make the neck cover out of a spray can cap. When I cut one up, the arc of the plastic on the outside is not even close to what it needs to be. There is an inner piece to the cap that has a smaller arc, and that one was closer, but still no match. I'm probably missing something simple, like I'm using the wrong type of cap?

  7. How did you cut the flaps, did you use dremel too?

Although the dremel tool is fast for cutting, the round blade is a little bit thick and takes some of the plastic. The x-acto knife would be the best option, but I could only use it for cutting the tip of the flap.

I used the x-acto for the entire thing except shaving down the legs and inside the shoulders. I used a dremel and a sanding stone attatchment for that. Like I said above, I didn't cut the thick section close to the wing root, juse the two flaps in the middle, so I left one on each ends of the wing still attatched.

  8. Now I just need to decide if I want to do the wing flap mod, I really like the way it looks, but I don't have any spare plastic that is close enough in color to make up the difference.

FYI: You don't need any spare plastic. Just use an x-acto instead of dremel. Worked find on mine, it's actually too tight, I need to do more sanding. And the flaps won't fall down if the needles on the ends are tight. I used safety pins and cut them with a dremel to connect the flaps to the wings. Take your time though, a little mistake will show up.

Also, I wouldn't reccomend going as far down the wing as the others I've seen. Juse use the 2 flap sections in the middle

  9. Another way to do the wings would be to cut them into 2 pieces, and reattatch with pegs. When you want to put them into high speed mode, seperate the pieces, and then sweep the wings back. I'll think about this some more.

So far I've made flaps for my wings, and done the shoulder mods. I had to remove a little bit of the leg, as well as dremel inside the shoulder to get them to sit flush.

One other thought I had was to add some nuts/washers/bolts to attatch the backpack piece permanently. I'm tired of things falling apart all the time :|

  10. I'm 30 min South of Seattle, I'd be down for something in the Puget Sound if it's on a weekend. My place is available too, got a 10 foot screen and HD projector, we could watch shows, drink beers, have a model/toy show and tell, that sort of thing. Or whatever you guys want to do, I'm down.

  11. The only way to connect them is by using a pair of sewing needles or similar.

I cut the flaps with x-acto knife and dremel with a cut-off wheel. You can cut the tip of the flaps with the knife. But the end of the flaps is too thick so the cut-off wheel is required. That left a big gap that I had to complete with a small piece of plastic of similar color. I sanded the little pieces with the dremel tool, glued and pinned them.

You need to drill the little holes with a tiny drilling bit, the ones found in a hobby shop.

Any mistakes on cutting and drilling and you can ruin the flaps. It is not an easy job so I do not recommend this customization to everyone.

The last thing I need to do is to apply my custom stickers that will be ready very soon, so wait a few days for more pictures

Thank you, I already cut mine off, but won't reattatch until I have a day off this weekend. So, just using the sewing needle, they don't fall down when the YF-19 is parked with wheels down, or fall up when the YF-19 is upside down?

It already looks good when I hold the pieces in place because ou get that detail of the part seperation. Anyways, do all of the YF-19's flaps work individually? Maybe I'll have them all movable with a wire going through each piece, though drilling might be a challenge. I have this stuff from the hobby store, it's a super strong metal bar maybe 2 or 3 times the diameter of pencil lead.

  12. I have a 720p version of GITS Innocence that fits on a single DVD-R. This movie looks amazing in even 720p. They did a great transfer.

I recently saw the first few episodes of Stand Alone Complex in HD, they also blew the DVD's out of the water. You absolutely can tell a higher def transfer from standard. It did significantly improve the visual experience for me, and I was quite amazed the entire time becuase I'd never seen anime look quite like that. I would love to see DYRL or Macross Plus in HD. I'd hold off judement until you'vet seen the difference between HD and SD anime on a good setup.

About the Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD thing, I bought a PS3, I could care less who wins the "war" because, Blu-Ray will have plenty of titles (it already does), and either the PS3 will burn out, or it will be time to buy a PS4, and I'll just upgrade then. Also, I'll be playing games for those 5 or 6 years with it.

    Just my .02

  13. I faced the same predicament -- sorry if I got the last on from Lost and Found Toys. Now I can patiently wait for BBTS to get the shipment.

I'm waiting on Twin Moons still. Supposed to be here this week according to an e-mail update I got. But I'm not sure if it means it will get to TMP this week, then take another week to get to me or what. Oh well, it's like waiting for Christmas :)

  14. Nice camera work.

In regards to the toy in general, there are some thing I love, and some nitpicks too.

Fighter and Gerwalk look pretty nice overall.

    Cons:

    Skinny head

    Chicken hands

Too many seams in the middle of parts

Big gap in the lower chest, and crotch piece isn't shaped very close to the lineart

Where the outer shoulders meet the inner shoulders there's quite a gap (visible in head on view in fighter mode)
