This totally made my day. This is probably my favorite anime of all time. The germans knew how good this series was. They've had two soundtrack releases and a huge DVD compilation with tons of extra features and interviews released for years. It was a humongous hit in germany. I never thought an english release would ever see the light of day but here it is.

Now people often say that redubbed, re-edited, re-scored animes are "butchered" like Robotech but this is totally not the case here - at least in my opinion. WEP (makers of Voltron) even outsourced another animation studio to actually make a few extra episodes to make their re-written story make more sense. The voice acting is probably some of the best I've ever seen in a dubbed anime, this was back in the 80s when actual professional and charismatic voice actors were plentiful due to the cartoon boom (Peter Cullen is in this one). Nothing like the terrible dubbing in dubbed anime these days. The music is fantastic too. Dale Schacker really outdid the original Japanese score by a large margin (boring orchestral BGM and cheesy early 80s pop) with his combination of hard rock, good synth, and great takes on some Ennio Morricone western themes (great spanish guitars, horns, rattlesnakes, whip cracks, etc.). Some of the episodes were a bit cheesy, your typical super robot of the week show, but when the storyline gets going, it's pretty chilling with lost ancient human colony fleets and a terrible war, etc.

Do you get that I really love this show yet? A great 52 episode series originally by Studio Pierrot.

  2. If Bond was going to be a realistic British spy he would have to have a more 'flexible' sexuality because it sounds like a lot of them had to be into anything (literally) to be successful. The whole 'womaniser' thing is a load of dingo's kidneys.

LOL, that's true. I hear that the long-term diplomatic corps of many countries is actually gay because of the difficulty of having families, etc. I've met a few ambassadors and they were certainly not straight hahaha

  3. Toys n' Joys is a really old store. Their website has been around since the early internet days. Interesting to finally see what the actual brick and mortor looks like. I know lots of people who had issues with their online store 5 years ago when buying videogames, etc.

  4. So we know now that Sheryl is Mao's grandaughter and they've even edited in some earrings into Macross Zero. How did she end up a poor and destitute kid on Macross Galaxy? It seemed like the photograph was something Sheryl's birth mother sent to the science fleet to Mao. What happened?

  5. Like Macross 7's movie, it'll be just another episode type story. Nothing epic. You aren't going to see anything further or any conclusions. Kawamori does not like tying loose ends. All Macross stories have ended with ambiguous endings that are not definite endings. The movie will be something like 'Knocking on Heaven's Door' IE: A story set before the end of the series. Mark my words.

  6. Just heard it on the radio, Johnny Deep will take on the Joker role. Glad the Joker role is not killed off and JD might just pull it off but how will they tackle the Joker role??

Totally just your usual fare of baseless radio rumors. Eckhart himself says they should not recast the Joker. Chris Nolan has final say and he's not going to do anything related to Batman for another year or two.

  7. As the MW resident VF-2SS supernerd (I have tons of pics that I was saving for my VF2SS website that never made it there because I stopped working on it 5 years ago haha).

For comparison's sake, here are some pictures of garage kits and b-club option parts that have the proper engine sizes. It's too bad the Bandai model is so old and poorly designed.

  8. Guld has too much baggage? That all depends. I took "who had the manliest death" as who has the toughest, most testosterone, all business, all guts, all glory death.

    That's Guld.

If you take manly to be some kind of mark of righteousnous, valour, redemption, moral value, etc. then that's too much extra stuff.
