  1. You guys don't keep TP near your valks? I assumed everyone did. To get at the toy goodness inside you have to lift the box off the base. Simple enough. But it is super hard lifting the thing with the toys inside it without everyone falling over.
  2. My pop and I made a little display case for my valks. I didn't want them to get dirty but I didn't want to buy a fancy case. So we made our own. It cost around 30 bucks all together. Almost everything was from Home Depot. The plastic was most of the price. They had a little tool to score and cut the plastic. We found it near the screen door supplies. The corners are cheap trimming. And the base is a plain shelf. It is held together with some generic glue. Nothing fancy, but it keeps the dust out.
  3. I couldn't help but make a wallpaper out of this cool custom. Nice work!
  4. Just discovered all the images in the Macrossworld art section. Since they are small, I picked one and made it wallpaper sized. Nothing special but I thought others might enjoy it.
  5. I totally agree. You are free to do what you want with your money, including purchasing awesome toys. There is nothing immoral/unwise about that. What I meant was how do you justify it to yourself. Sorry if I offended anyone.
  6. Why are some people get so flustered when a topic that has been discussed before? Is it such a crime? Not everyone checks the forums every hour. Do I have to do an extensive search on past literature before I post? People are just talking casually - not doing their thesis. There seem to be a group of people who get a kick out of pointing out when a topic has already been discussed (often providing a link). Like library archivists. I don't mind that, but they are often very disrespectful, saying things like "Not this again..." I bet even a post just like mine has been posted before. If each topic was posted only once forever, there would be very little room to discuss anything. Same for real life. Also, even if a topic has been posted before, different people will reply the second time. Providing a different perspective on things. Apologies for the ranting. I thought the 1/48 was the most IN proportion toy.
  7. I'm a big anime fan (don't own much, I usually borrow DVDs from friends), and I like toys. You can enjoy something even if you don't have one of your own. (but you can enjoy it a lot more if you have one of your own) Every once and while I break down and buy something I really want. But I try to limit myself. As a grad student, I have some money for toys, but I have to save for rainy days, because the money comes and goes.
  8. While some people have complained about how Yamato's new VF-0 looks, I am excited about it. It may not look as great as the 1/48, but it is more affordably priced!
  9. I've noticed Macross toys (and anime toys in general) are pretty expensive. This is unfortunate, as I am pretty stingy. Sixty dollars for a 1/60, over 100 dollars for a 1/48, another 50 for the FAST pak set, etc. I can't bring myself to spend over 50 dollars on a toy, no matter how cool it is. This means I'm pretty much limited to model kits (and I am too stingy to buy an airbrush). I've only broken down once and bought one 1/60. I guess growing up most toys were under 20 bucks. And, at least with computers, cameras, etc, I can tell myself the thing actually does something. A toy just sits there and looks cool. My brother thinks the prices for these toys are absurd. He sees toys at ToysRUs going for 20 bucks, then anime toys that look "slightly" cooler selling for 80 bucks. I understand that it costs a lot to make them. And you have to increase the price because you will sell a lot less than a mainstream toy. Do any of you have the same problem? (Obviously many of you don't) How do you justify spending oodles of money on a toy? Hopefully one day I'll break down and get that 1/48 I've always wanted...
