fwap, fwap, fwap... Anybody got a Kleenex?
  2. Outside of Macross I find that most animation mecha are far too anthropomorphic for my tastes. Even if I like the show (e.g. Transformers, Voltron) I still think the mecha look like poo in most cases. Maybe because I'm an engineer by trade I need to see somewhat realistic detail in the mechanics of the thing. At least with Transformers the complexity of the toys often times make up for the laziness of the animators. Many mecha (e.g. Getter, Mazinger) look to me like stacks of roughly cylindrical toy blocks connected together with rods of impossibly pliable alloys rather than realistic mechanical joints. And as someone else said... If it has a mouth, GAG! In the Macross universe I have to say that the VF-11MAXL looks like someone wanted to create a "sexy" battroid. WTF?! It's as bad as when they introduced female Transformers (why does a race of mechanical beings need to be male or female). Arcee and the VF-11MAXL in battroid mode could both be wearing fish tank heels and dancing around brass poles for Megatron's singles. It's absurd to think a machine of war would ever look like a stripper or a call girl. The closest mecha should ever come to being sexy would be a pin-up girl, a la WWII bombers, painted on the outside of a magnificent Battletech mech.
  3. Wow! First time I have ever looked at a JM and thought to myself... I must have that!
  4. There is a special spot in my display case for this item, and as the other shelves fill up with other Macross and Transformers swag that shelf is beginning to look a little bare. Please Yamato, please!!! Don't let me... us down!
  5. Looks like a lot of things to me. The SDF-1, Space Battleship Yamato and the TCS Concordia (Wing Commander). Still can't believe this turd is supposed to be the reincarnation of my beloved G1 Omega Supreme.
  6. Where is the 19FP?! Other things I would like to see... 1/48 DYRL Kakizake 1A 1/48 DYRL Max 1S Things I would like to see, but probably never will... 1/48 VT-1 1/48 VE-1 1/48 VF-1J w/ GBP armor
  7. I think Wal-Mart got a cease and desist letter about this from HG. Not certain, but I remember seeing that somewhere.
  8. I was told my first attempt could not be mapped, so here is another attempt: deg-min-sec latitude 32° 50' 11.8543504434" longitude -96° 46' 37.4638559365" decimal latitude 32.8366262084565 longitude -96.7770732933157 That's my loft in Dallas, Texas in case anyone is wondering.
  9. For my 1/48 collection to be complete, I need them to do the following: Kakizake VF-1A Max VF-1S VE-1 VT-1 Armored VF-1J Like Graham, I am a DYRL guy. Since each of those designs either played a prominent part or stood out on the screen for longer than 1 second, I very much want them. Now I know everyone will bitch if Yamato just makes the nose longer to add another seat, but that seems to me the easiest route in creating a two-seater. I don't mind if my single seater Valks come down with penis envy upon the arrival of a beautifully detailed VE-1 and VT-1. Maybe they can call up Ron Jeremy and order some Extenz or something, whatever they need to do in order to cope. I think I would also be very happy to see Yamato get permission from Haskara (if it's even needed) to do a 1/48 Jetfire. I won't hold my breath on that one though.
  10. Great to see some Leafs fans. I fell in love with hockey way back in 1980, but Texas didn't have an NHL team until the early 90's. Always I support the home team, my beloved Dallas Stars, but I had to like SOMEBODY for all those years without a franchise of my own. That team has always been the Toronto Maple Leafs! And should Dallas and Toronto ever meet in the Cup Finals, I would be an emotional wreck. I can barely handle when we play each other in regular season meetings.
  11. I'm sorry guys, I can't find the radio button for Texas... Guess I will pick North America, it's the closest thing. Dallas, Texas checking in here!
  12. Not true. The other day I saw a Predaking set sealed in its original boxes going for $2500. Still had a few days left on it, too. Also, I once saw a mint in sealed mint box Matsushiro Jetfire go for $2500. Seller still had the 1985 Toys R Us receipt and the price tag on the box was in perfect condition, too. Both of those maybe isolated incidents of bidding run amock due to the incredible condition of the items in question, but everytime someone spends that kind of cash it brings up the value of all the other ones in the world just like it. I like to look at auctions that expensive, but I can't afford them. Or maybe I could if I didn't need a place to live and a car to drive. Still, I like drooling on my keyboard. In the meantime, more 1/48's and Binal Tech's for me please!
  13. LMFAO!!! So true! I chose M+ for a few simple reasons listed below... New Eden looks like a cool place to hang out. Isamu's motorcycle looks badass and I want one. Kate and Myung could use a little lovin'. I like the music. Reasons I didn't choose the others... M0 - I already live then, and we ain't got not damn VF-0's! SDFM - Ummm... We's-ah-gonnah-die! M7 - Can't get over the whole battling rock band thing. MII - VF-2ss is bad ass, but that reporter turned fighter pilot is a whiny little bitch.
  14. G1 Megs sitting out on a shelf in plain view of the public? at first... ...and then And WTF is up with the GameCube selection?! The component video cable? Stocked and available. The Matsushita GC with DVD and DIVX capabilities? Stocked and available.
  15. For $37 they can sure as hell release some press photos so I can see what's so $37 about it in the first place.
  16. The only reason I could see for a redesign is the VF-1's apparently smaller physical dimensions. I'm a fan, but not a fanatic. I can't quote the VF-1's dimensions off the top of my head, so if my information is wrong please don't get offended. What I do know is that Plus toys at 1/72 are about the same size as VF-1's at 1/60. I have heard that a 1/72 Zero toy would also be about the same size as a 1/60 VF-1. So it seems to me that any redesign to better fit the continuity of the story would involve beefing up the physical dimensions of the VF-1 so that a 1/72 VF-0 = 1/72 VF-1 = 1/72 VF-11, YF-19, YF-21. I could also see some slight alterations to make the VF-1 look as advanced or more advanced than the VF-0, but I don't believe that would majorly change the styling of the VF-1. Personally, I don't believe there is a need to change design for the sake of continuity. In Space War I, we are at war with an alien race whose armada is the size of the Small Magellanic Cloud. With the limited resources this planet has to offer, it would seem only natural to scale things back so that fewer materials are required in construction. The only flaw in this is that although the UN government had some idea that the aliens were 40 feet tall, I can't explain them knowing how big the alien threat was. Space War I was kind of "sprung" on us with little to no warning, and the VF-1 had not only already been designed but was in mass production.

    Custom 1/48 CF

Last time I saw something that lovely and beautiful, it had tits!
  18. I hear that! As one who put in 83 total hours last week, I am well aware of this "9-5 you speak of. Problem is, last week it was more like "9-9 the next day." Oh well, at least they are sending me to New York City for two weeks. I'll spend half the time I am there cooped up in a server room, though.
  19. The 5 most prized items in my home (in no particular order)... Masterpiece Convoy - Just arrived, and already on the top 5 list! Texas Flag - Flew over the capitol in Austin, won at a charity auction. Apollo 11 Bolt - Frozen for all time in a solid block of acrylic, acquired for me by my aunt who works at Johnson Space Center in Houston. Matsushiro Jetfire - Completely mint, and the perfect reminder of the shared cartoon heritage of my favorite transforming toy from childhood. Autographed Silent Bob Action Figure - Autographed for me by Kevin Smith himself at Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash in Red Bank, NJ.

    YF-21...

Forget about perched mode, has anyone gotten their YF-21 FP into STANDING WITHOUT ASSISTANCE mode? I got it close, once. It stood for two weeks before my subwoofer, from across the room mind you, produced just the right frequency to shatter the delicate splendor that was my achievement. I swear to all that is holy, this is the first drunken alcoholic toy I've ever owned.
  22. I have TWO heads and that helmet would only fit ONE of them... Good thing it's the one between my shoulders. Seriously, I don't know why Yamato would make such a thing. Were it rated for vehicular use, had an integrated cooling system, an integrated Sirius satellite radio system, an integrated full-featured GPS, a HUD on the visor linked to all of it, was voice command enabled (channel up, volume down, 100Hz +5db, temp 72, humidity 15, find next exit for Dairy Queen) and I could find a Yamaha YZF-R1 with a matching paint scheme... THEN it might be time for me to break the bank. Of course, at the price they're charging I also expect it to be custom tailored to my personal dimensions. Otherwise, I have no use for it. Now here's my own little "theory." With a live action Transformers movie in the works and around the corner, could it be that Macross is to be given similar treatment? Is Yamato making these FOR somebody? Perhaps they are samples for a team of folks trying to convince a production company somewhere to fund their "idea." Could we possibly see Keira Knightly dawn green hair and a Yammie 1/1 suit to cosplay as the lovely Milia? Would she then be the absolute baddest cosplay chick of all time? Hrrmmm...

    Age Check! :)

Just recently turned 26. Also just recently moved into a smaller place and had to downsize my collection a bit. I no longer have any 1/60. I have 4 1/48 (all the DYRL produced so far), 2 1/72, 2 Jetfires and 2 matching super chunky monkeys. That's in the Macross display case anyway. I have 7 more super chunky monkeys sitting in their sealed original boxes. I think I may part with some of them, but some I am holding on to because Jetfire was my favorite toy as a kid and I want my children to be able to have the same experience.
